      Advice: Sewald seems to relish the opportunity to close games against the organization that gave up on him and did so on back-to-back days this weekend.       José Quintana allowed four earned runs across four innings on Sunday against the Diamondbacks in a no-decision. He struck out four and walked three.

      Advice: Quintana surrendered a home run to Ketel Marte on just the third pitch of the game and then another to Lourdes Gurriel Jr. just five pitches later. Even after the Mets rallied back to get him a lead Quintana ran into trouble during the fourth inning and the Mets yanked him. His ERA drifted up to 5.17 in what’s been a forgettable season.     • Gerrit Cole will need at least two rehab starts
      Yankees’ manager Aaron Boone told reporters on Sunday that Gerrit Cole (elbow) will need at least a couple of minor league rehab starts before he’s ready to make his 2024 debut.

      Advice: Cole will make his first minor league rehab start at Double-A Somerset on Tuesday. His next turn will come five days after that. If he needs just two starts, his regular season debut would likely come against the Red Sox at some point during their series starting on June 14. If he needs a third tune-up in the minor leagues, it’s likely that his debut would come the following week against the Braves. As long as he avoids any setbacks, his return appears to be imminent.     • Beginning rehab stint Tuesday
      Yankees manager Aaron Boone said Sunday that Cole (elbow) will begin a rehab assignment Tuesday with Double-A Somerset, Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reports.

      Advice: The 33-year-old has thrown multiple sessions of live batting practice over the past couple weeks and has now been cleared to pitch in minor-league games. Cole will require multiple outings in the minors before being ready to join the Yankees, but he's on track to make his season debut during the second half of June.       Gerrit Cole (elbow) will make a rehab start for Double-A Somerset on Tuesday.

      Advice: Cole threw a 43-pitch simulated game Thursday, and now he’ll get a chance to face minor-league hitters as the next stop in his progression. The 33-year-old has missed all of 2024 thus far with his elbow injury, but assuming there are no setbacks, it’s likely the 2023 Cy Young winner will be back in action in the middle of June.       Yamamoto (6-2) allowed a run on seven hits and a walk while striking out seven over six innings to earn the win over the Rockies on Saturday.

      Advice: Yamamoto bounced back from a loss his last time out with a strong performance. He's earned quality starts in four of his last six outings, allowing 13 runs over 37 innings in that span. The rookie right-hander has a 3.32 ERA, 1.12 WHIP and 76:14 K:BB over 65 innings across 12 starts this season.     • Strikes out 10 in loss
      Manaea (3-2) took the loss to the Diamondbacks on Saturday, allowing six runs (five earned) on six hits and two walks with 10 strikeouts over 5.2 innings.

      Advice: Manaea tossed two scoreless frames before Christian Walker hit a grand slam in the third inning, and Manaea would go on to surrender two more runs before exiting with two outs in the sixth. The 10 strikeouts were a season high for the lefty, and it was the first outing in which he allowed more than three earned runs since April 13. A double and a base hit in the sixth would drive in a run and knock Manaea from the game with two outs at 105 pitches. He struck out a season-high ten batters.       Advice: Fedde's start offered a mix bag, as he allowed a season-high 13 baserunners but also managed to provide eight punchouts. The 31-year-old right-hander has been a surprising source of strikeouts, as he's generated 66 in 69.1 total innings.
