      Sewald secured the save Sunday against the Tigers by working a perfect ninth inning. He struck out one.

      Advice: Sewald needed just 10 pitches to get the job done and picked up a strikeout against Spencer Torkelson in the process. He's now converted all three of his save chances on the year and has tossed four straight scoreless innings while giving up just one hit since yielding a run in his season debut May 7.       Manaea (3-1) earned the win Sunday against Miami, allowing two runs on five hits and one walk over five innings. He struck out four.

      Advice: Manaea allowed three or fewer runs for his sixth straight appearance, but he did yield his second homer of the campaign when Dane Myers hit a two-run blast in the second inning. Although Manaea hasn't gone deeper than six innings this year, he owns a solid 3.11 ERA with 41 strikeouts across 46.1 innings. He's on track for a home start against the Giants next Sunday.     • Paul Sewald closes out Tigers on Sunday afternoon
      Paul Sewald slammed the door on the Tigers on Sunday afternoon, working a scoreless ninth inning to preserve a two-run advantage.

      Advice: The 33-year-old hurler picked up his third save of the season for his efforts. He made it look awfully easy in this one, needing just 10 pitches (nine strikes) to get Wenceel Perez on a fly ball, Spencer Torkelson on strikes and Javier Baez on a pop out to second base to end it. On the season, Sewald now holds a 1.80 ERA, 0.60 WHIP and a 5/1 K/BB ratio across his first five innings of work. Rotoworld Sunday, 4:18 pm

      Sean Manaea allowed two earned runs across five innings on Sunday. He struck out four, walked one, and got the win.

      Advice: This was a very Manaea start, going five frames, missing bats, and limiting damage. He’s been very solid this season with a 3.11 ERA and three wins in nine starts. Walks have been an issue for him, but not on Sunday. Rotoworld Sunday, 2:02 pm

    • Taking on 'fluid' role
      Mets manager Carlos Mendoza said Sunday that Diaz's bullpen role will be more "fluid" for the near future, Paige Leckie of MLB.com reports.

      Advice: The 30-year-old surrendered four runs in his third blown save of the season Saturday and admitted that his confidence is down with seven runs allowed in his past three outings, so the Mets won't rely on him to be their primary closer for a bit. Diaz is still viewed as the club's closer long term but is now likely to see some lower-leverage work in an attempt to get him back on track.     • Mendoza: Edwin Díaz’s role with Mets is ‘fluid’
      Mets manager Carlos Mendoza told reporters that Edwin Diaz’s role with the Mets is “fluid.”

      Advice: Fluid, by definition, is not very concrete. Díaz has been horrific over the last week, as he’s seen his ERA jump up to 5.50 from the 2.13 mark he had entering the month by allowing runs in three consecutive appearances. The 30-year-old looked the part prior to these struggles and it’s worth noting he’s a hurler who missed all of 2023 thanks to a fluke injury. Díaz probably won’t be on the mound for the next save chance for the Mets, but New York is going to do everything in its power to try and get the right-hander back on track.     • Melts down in Miami
      Diaz allowed four runs on four hits while recording just one out in Saturday's loss to the Marlins.

      Advice: The Mets handed the ball to Diaz with a four-run advantage in the bottom of the ninth inning. He permitted a leadoff double and watched that run come around on a one-out single. Another single put two runners on and Josh Bell cashed in when he sent a ball 428 feet to center field for a three-run homer. Mets manager Carlos Mendoza pulled Diaz at that point. While this didn't officially go down as a blown save, it continued an ugly stretch for Diaz, who has allowed 10 runs over his last eight appearances covering 8.1 frames. When asked after the game about a potential change at closer, Mendoza didn't dismiss it, per Mike Puma of the New York Post. Diaz himself even said he'd be open to working in low-leverage spots for a while as he tries to get back on track.       Edwin Diaz allowed four runs and only recorded one out against the Marlins on Saturday.



      Advice: Diaz entered the game with a four-run lead so it wasn’t technically a save situation, but he once again couldn’t hold the lead for the Mets. It’s his third straight appearance with a blown lead. Diaz allowed an RBI single to Jazz Chisholm and a game-tying three run home run to Josh Bell. His ERA is now 5.50 on the season. Diaz has been an elite closer in the past, but we’re at the point where he might need to be removed from the closer role temporarily.

      Fairbanks struck out one in a perfect ninth inning Friday to record his fourth save of the season in a 4-3 win over the Blue Jays.

      Advice: The right-hander needed only six pitches (five strikes) to dispatch the heart of Toronto's order, setting down Bo Bichette, Vladimir Guerrero and Justin Turner. Fairbanks still isn't quite flashing his usual velocity -- he topped out at 97.3 mph with his fastball Friday after averaging 98.9 mph in 2023 -- but he hasn't seemed to miss the extra gear since coming off the IL, firing four straight hitless, scoreless appearances with a 6:0 K:BB.
