      Daulton Varsho went hitless in a seventh consecutive start Monday, finishing 0-for-3 with a walk against the Astros.

      Advice: Varsho did get a hit off the bench Saturday, but he’s 1-for-28 with 13 strikeouts since June 19, dropping his average to .197. There’s too much homer and steal potential here to make Varsho droppable in fantasy leagues, but it’s tempting.     • Wraps up huge June with three hits
      Merrill went 3-for-4 with a double and a run in Sunday's loss to Boston.

      Advice: Merrill was the only Padre to notch multiple hits in the contest, and he scored the team's only run after belting a one-out double in the seventh inning. The rookie finished June with back-to-back three-hit games, with half of his knocks during the pair of contests going for extra bases. Merrill swung a hot bat for most of the month, and he finished June with a .320/.346/.650 slash line along with nine home runs, 20 RBI, 17 runs and two stolen bases.       Pasquantino went 3-for-4 with one RBI and one run scored in Sunday's 6-2 win over the Guardians.

      Advice: Pasquantino has gone 11-for-27 (.407) with nine RBI across his last seven games, ending June on a high note. The first baseman's recent surge has him up to a .247/.321/.436 slash line for the year, nearly identical to his marks over 61 contests in 2023. He's added 10 home runs, 55 RBI, 39 runs scored, 21 doubles and two triples through 82 games this year, playing on a near-everyday basis between first base and designated hitter.     • Paul Sewald lowers ERA to 0.54 on Sunday
      Paul Sewald struck out two in a perfect ninth inning on Sunday against the Athletics.

      Advice: It was a non-save situation, with Arizona leading by four runs entering the final frame, but Sewald remained locked-in nonetheless, needing just 13 pitches (11 strikes) to end the game. The 34-year-old righty has reeled off 17 consecutive scoreless appearances since giving up one run back on May 7 in his season debut. He’s converted all 11 of his save chances this season and boasts a microscopic 0.54 ERA, 0.48 WHIP and 15/3 K/BB ratio across 16 2/3 innings (18 appearances).       Shohei Ohtani went 0-for-5 with three strikeouts on Sunday in the Dodgers’ blowout loss to the Giants.

      Advice: We’re fairly confident he’s going to be just fine moving forward. There will be days like this, even for generational superstar like Ohtani, who launched his 26th round-tripper of the season during Saturday’s extra-inning win over the division-rival Giants.     • Halts slump with two hits
      LeMahieu went 2-for-4 with a double, two RBI and a run scored Sunday against the Blue Jays.

      Advice: LeMahieu entered the game mired in a 6-for-42 (.143) slump but collected a couple of base hits, each of which brought in a run, while also adding just his second extra-base hit of the campaign. Despite being unable to find his footing at the plate, LeMahieu, who raised his season average to .188 thanks to Sunday's effort, has maintained a regular role in the Yankees' lineup since returning from the IL in late May due to a fractured foot.     • Rounding into form
      Cole (1-1) earned the win Sunday, allowing one run on three hits, a walk and two hit batsmen over five innings against the Blue Jays. He struck out six.

      Advice: Cole continues to struggle with his command as he rounds into form following a two-plus month stint on the IL with a nerve irritation in his elbow, but Sunday's performance represented a major step in the right direction. After walking four and allowing four homers in his previous start, Cole allowed a single run in the third, then struck out three of the last six batters he faced as he sent the Blue Jays down in order in the fourth and fifth innings to close out his day. The five innings pitched, 90 pitches thrown, one run allowed and six strikeouts each represented a season-best total for Cole, who continues to inch his way back toward his normal workload. He's tentatively slated to toe the rubber again next weekend in an AL East showdown when the Yankees welcome the Red Sox to the Bronx. Rotowire.com Sunday, 2:22 pm
       
    • Gerrit Cole wins, rights ship against Blue Jays
      Gerrit Cole scattered three hits and a walk across five innings on Sunday in an 8-1 win over the Blue Jays. He allowed one run and struck out six.

      Advice: This was the first time this season Cole looked like himself. His fastball velocity was much more consistent than it had been in either of his first two starts and he showed no hesitation in challenging the Blue Jays hitters with it. He also showed better command of his secondaries and the Yankees let him work all the way up to 90 pitches. While not perfect, this was the kind of start we needed to see from Cole.       Mullins is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Rangers, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports.

      Advice: Mullins has gone 0-for-6 with a strikeout in the past two games, which followed an eight-game stretch in which he went 14-for-31 with three homers, three steals, six RBI and nine runs.
