Swanson is due to improve at the plate at some point as his .208 batting average is the worst of his career and his .131 ISO is his worst since his first full MLB campaign in 2017. Alvarez has hit safely in 13 of his past 14 games and is batting .377 (20-for-53) during that stretch, though he had only two RBI during that span before Saturday.       Yordan Alvarez went 3-for-3 with two homers and three RBI in a 5-2 win Saturday over the Twins for the Astros.

      Advice: Alvarez also drew a walk. The 26-year-old slugger took Joe Ryan deep with a runner on in the first, and did more damage against Ryan with a solo shot in the fifth. That ups Alvarez’s total to 11 roundtrippers on the year, and he’s plated 25 over the first 59 games of the season for the Astros. Alvarez has been as good as any hitter in baseball the last few years, and it’s the only reason why those numbers and a .283/.357/.480 slash seem slightly disappointing.       Framber Valdez gave up just one hit on two runs while working seven innings to get a win Saturday against the Twins.

      Advice: Valdez did issue two walks, but he was able to keep the self-inflicted damage to a low roar while striking out four. The southpaw has gone seven innings in three of his last five starts, and he hasn’t allowed more than two runs in any of those outings.       Joe Ryan gave up five runs over five innings while picking up a loss to the Astros on Saturday.

      Advice: Ryan gave up eight hits, which is not great, and five of those hits left the park, which is worse. The 27-year-old was coming off an outstanding start against the Royals on Monday. This was anything but. He also walked two and struck out four in one of the worst outings of the season for Ryan. Expect better things for the right-hander against Pittsburgh next week.       Anthony Santander went 2-for-3 with a home run, two runs scored, and a walk against the Rays on Saturday.

      Advice: Santander followed Ryan Mountcastle’s homer in the first inning with his own solo blast to extend the lead. He then drew a walk in the third before scoring on a double by Kyle Stowers.
