    • Matt Vierling leaves the yard in win over Twins
Matt Vierling went 1-for-5 with a two-run homer and a pair of runs scored on Wednesday as the Tigers triumphed over the Twins in Minnesota.

Advice: Showing no ill-effects from the foot issue that kept him out of the lineup on Sunday and Tuesday, Vierling bunted into a fielder’s choice in the third inning and rode home on Carson Kelly’s grand slam. He then did a little yard work of his own, crushing a 386-foot (108.9 mph EV) two-run shot off of Kody Funderburk in the ninth inning that capped off the scoring in the contest. On the season, he’s now hitting .249/.284/.443 with 11 homers and 35 RBI. Rotoworld Yesterday, 7:36 pm

    • Yordan Alvarez with three extra-base hits in win
Yordan Alvarez went 3-for-4 with a home run, two doubles, three RBI, three runs scored, and a walk in the Astros’ 9-2 win over the Blue Jays on Wednesday.

Advice: Alvarez came into this game ready for Yusei Kikuchi’s fastball and twice put first pitch fastballs in play, once for a homer, and also worked a long at-bat that wound up in a double also off that same fastball. He also sliced another double late off Bowden Francis to break this game open for Houston. Watching him hit is a marvel. Rotoworld Yesterday, 7:14 pm
    • Daulton Varsho with two hits, RBI for Blue Jays
Daulton Varsho went 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI on Wednesday against the Astros.

Advice: The Blue Jays once again shook up their lineup and Varsho landed in the fifth spot with George Springer back to lead-off and Bo Bichette fourth. Regardless, it still could not spark their struggling offense. Varsho briefly got his average back above the Mendoza-line before it sunk back to .199. He and nearly every Blue Jays’ hitter has been a disappointment this season. Rotoworld Yesterday, 7:13 pm
    • Jorge Soler doubles, scores against former team
Jorge Soler went 1-for-4 with a double and a run scored on Wednesday against the Braves.

Advice: Soler seems to enjoy hitting lead-off. He’s hit safely in five straight games with six extra-base hits over that span since being put back atop the order. He’s very slowly gotten his feet wet after a miserable start to the season and we know how hot he can get once he finds his groove. Rotoworld Yesterday, 7:00 pm
    • Masataka Yoshida plates two in win over Marlins
Masataka Yoshida went 2-for-4 with a pair of RBI on Wednesday, powering the sizzling-hot Red Sox to a 7-2 blowout win over the Marlins.

Advice: Yoshida followed up a two-hit performance during Tuesday’s series opener at loanDepot park with a go-ahead run-scoring single in the third inning before tacking on a pivotal insurance run with a seventh-inning ground out. He also walked and scored a run in the ninth inning. The 30-year-old designated hitter, who missed a significant portion of the first half due to a thumb injury, has been scorching-hot at the dish recently, batting .440 (11-for-25) with four RBI over his last seven games. • Back in action Wednesday
Vierling (foot) will start at third base and bat leadoff during Wednesday's game versus Minnesota, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports.

Advice: A sore left foot has prevented Vierling from playing in Detroit's last two games, but he seems to be feeling better ahead of Wednesday's contest. The 27-year-old has gone 4-for-20 with a homer and three RBI over his last five games. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 3:10 pm

    • James Wood batting third for Nationals Wednesday
James Wood will start in left field and bat third for the Nationals on Wednesday night against the Mets.

Advice: It only took two games for the 21-year-old phenom to slide into a premium spot in the Nationals’ lineup, and as long as he hits he should remain there indefinitely. The premium spot in the order should lead to ample counting stats to go along with his dazzling blend of power and speed — making him a must-add in all formats for the remainder of the season. • Reds recalled OF Blake Dunn from Triple-A
Reds recalled OF Blake Dunn from Triple-A Louisville.

Advice: Dunn hit .228 with five home runs and 24 RBI in 55 games at Triple-A this year. He’ll get another chance with this being his second stint with the Reds this year. Levi Jordan was optioned to Triple-A as the corresponding move. Rotoworld Yesterday, 12:21 pm
    • Back with big club
The Reds recalled Dunn from Triple-A Louisville on Wednesday, Gordon Wittenmyer of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.

Advice: The Reds wanted more of a pure outfielder on the bench rather than Levi Jordan, who can play the outfield but who is an infielder by trade. Dunn went 1-for-10 at the dish in an earlier stint in the majors. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 12:09 pm
