• Jordan Beck not in Rockies’ lineup on Friday night
Jordan Beck is not in the Rockies’ starting lineup for Friday’s matchup against the Rangers.

Advice: It’s the first time that the 23-year-old outfielder has received a day off since his promotion from Triple-A. It’s been a rough go at the plate for him so far, hitting just .156/.156/.188 with one run scored, zero RBI and a 14/0 K/BB ratio. If things don’t improve soon, he’s likely ticketed for a return to Triple-A. Rotoworld 12 minutes ago

  • Paul Goldschmidt returns to Cardinals’ lineup
Paul Goldschmidt returned to the Cardinals starting lineup for Friday night’s ballgame against the Brewers.

Advice: The Cardinals had the struggling 36-year-old slugger take the previous two games off to work on reconstructing his swing. That makes sense, as he’s slashing a putrid .195/.287/.263 with just two homers, 11 RBI, one swipe and a 47/16 K/BB ratio over 152 plate appearances to start the season. There’s nowhere to go but up, so fantasy managers will just have to hope that whatever changes he made make a difference. He’ll bat third against rookie left-hander Robert Gasser on Friday evening in Milwaukee. Rotoworld 15 minutes ago
  • Masataka Yoshida (thumb) will not need surgery
Red Sox’ manager Alex Cora announced Friday that Masataka Yoshida will not require surgery on his injured left thumb.

Advice: He’s still going to be shut down for a couple of weeks before he starts swinging a bat again, but overall this is encouraging news for the Red Sox and for fantasy managers. Yoshida has been shelved since the beginning of May. He has hit .275/.348/.388 with a pair of homers, 11 RBI and an 11/6 K/BB ratio over 89 plate appearances in 24 games on the season. • Will start Saturday
Estes will be recalled from Triple-A Las Vegas to start Saturday's game against the Mariners, Martin Gallegos of MLB.comreports.

Advice: Estes has accumulated a 6.04 ERA and 1.46 WHIP across 28.1 innings in Triple-A, but he will come up from the minors for his season debut nonetheless. The 22-year-old right-hander gave up eight earned runs in major-league innings last season, and he isn't a recommended streaming option for Saturday. Rotowire.com 24 minutes ago

  • Giants recall Casey Schmitt from Triple-A Friday
Giants recalled INF Casey Schmitt from Triple-A Sacramento.

Advice: The 25-year-old infielder flopped in his first taste of big league action in 2023, but perhaps things will be different this time around. Schmitt was hitting .276/.320/.448 with five homers, 31 RBI and five stolen bases through his first 33 games at Triple-A Sacramento. Expect him to see the bulk of the action at shortstop while Nick Ahmed (wrist) is shelved. Rotoworld 24 minutes ago

  • Set for another outing
Smith (shoulder) is slated for an appearance for Triple-A Syracuse on Saturday, Tim Britton of The Athletic reports.

Advice: Smith started his rehab assignment with Syracuse on Wednesday, giving up a solo home run in the eighth inning while throwing 13 pitches. Smith is progressing through right shoulder inflammation that landed him on the 15-day IL on April 17. Rotowire.com 27 minutes ago

  • Giants place Nick Ahmed (wrist) on 10-day IL
Giants placed INF Nick Ahmed on the 10-day injured list with a left wrist sprain.

Advice: The 34-year-old shortstop sustained the injury on April 27 when he was hit by a 108-mph line drive against the Rockies. He’ll sit for a couple of weeks and hope that the time off takes care of things. Casey Schmitt was recalled from Triple-A Sacremento in a corresponding move on Friday. Rotoworld 27 minutes ago

  • Officially activated
The Mariners reinstated Woo (elbow) from the 15-day injured list prior to his start Friday versus Oakland.

Advice: Woo will be making his season debut Friday versus the A's after missing the first month-plus of the season due to right elbow inflammation. The 24-year-old was spectacular during his rehab assignment, striking out 17 batters in 11.1 scoreless innings, and he'll have a chance to stay hot against a below-average Athletics lineup. Tyson Miller was designated for assignment in a corresponding move. Rotowire.com 31 minutes ago

  • Throwing off mound
Johnson (elbow) began throwing off a mound Friday, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Just six days after landing on the injured list, Johnson has already been given the go-ahead to throw bullpen sessions. He will presumably throw a few more before progressing to facing hitters, but the 33-year-old righty could be on track to return to Atlanta's bullpen when eligible May 19. Rotowire.com 38 minutes ago
