    • Belts another leadoff homer
Betts went 1-for-4 with a solo home run, a walk and two total runs scored in Friday's 7-3 win over the Reds.

Advice: Betts' last two homers have been of the leadoff variety, and they're his only two long balls in May. He's hitting .283 this month, though that's dropped his season-long average to a still-stunning .341 through 47 contests. Betts has added eight homers, 29 RBI, 40 runs scored, eight stolen bases, 11 doubles and three triples over 218 plate appearances while serving as the everyday leadoff hitter. • Decent in no-decision
Paxton allowed three runs on seven hits and struck out two without walking a batter over six innings in a no-decision versus the Reds on Friday.

Advice: Paxton did fine, though he gave up solo home runs to Stuart Fairchild and Tyler Stephenson to account for two of the three runs on his line. After posting just one quality start over five outings in April, Paxton has settled in with three in a row to begin May. The southpaw has done well at run prevention this year with a 2.84 ERA despite a 1.38 WHIP and 24:24 K:BB through 44.1 innings over eight starts. He's projected to make his next start at home versus the Diamondbacks. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 9:52 pm
    • Swats homer in win
Gorman went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Friday's 10-6 win over the Red Sox.

Advice: Gorman's bat is coming around -- he's 6-for-19 (.316) with two homers and four RBI over his last six games. The second baseman took Boston starter Brayan Bello deep in the second inning of this contest. Gorman is up to a .193/.288/.370 slash line with six homers, 16 RBI, 14 runs scored, no stolen bases and six doubles through 153 plate appearances, and he's not helping his cause to remain in an everyday role with a 34.6 percent strikeout rate. While the threat isn't immediate, Gorman could be one of the players to see a reduced role once Tommy Edman (wrist) is able to return to action. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 9:43 pm

    • Paxton has Quality Start vs. Reds, but no-decision
James Paxton held the Reds to three runs over six innings but picked up no decision Friday.

Advice: The southpaw allowed seven hits, and while he didn’t issue a walk, he also only finished with a pair of strikeouts. The 35-year-old allowed a pair of homers in the game — both solo shots by Tyler Stephenson and Stuart Fairchild — and saw his ERA tick up to 2.84 despite picking up a Quality Start. Paxton has mostly looked the part in 2024, and while there are injury concerns and always will be, there’s plenty of reason to roster him in fantasy while he’s able to get on the bump. • Three hits in win
Perez went 3-for-3 with a double, a walk, one RBI and one run scored in Friday's 6-2 win over the Athletics.

Advice: Perez opened the scoring with an RBI single in the first inning and got one base three more times in Friday's victory. The veteran catcher is batting .294 (15-for-51) with seven extra-base hits and eight RBI contests in May. That's actually down from his overall numbers -- Perez is slashing a stellar .335/.403/.557 with eight home runs, 34 RBI, 18 runs scored and 11 doubles over 176 plate appearances. He last hit above .300 for a full season in the abbreviated 2020 campaign, so there is a high risk that he cools off eventually in 2024, but he's been excellent over the first quarter of the season. • Extends throwing distance
Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo said Rodriguez (shoulder) has extended his throwing program out to 60 feet, Jesse Friedman of GoPHNX.com reports.

Advice: Rodriguez had to pause his throwing program in early April due to discomfort in his left shoulder, but the fact that he's extended his throwing distance is an encouraging sign. He was transferred from the 15-day injured list to the 60-day IL on April 17, which would make the left-hander eligible to return in mid-June. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 4:55 pm
    • Eduardo Rodriguez (lat) throwing at 60 feet
Diamondbacks’ skipper Torey Lovullo told reporters on Friday that Eduardo Rodriguez is now throwing at a distance of 60 feet.

Advice: He has yet to throw off of a mound, but the fact that he has been playing catch and gradually increasing his distance is at least an encouraging sign. He’s going to require a long and slow build up — and several minor league rehab starts — before he’s ready to make his Diamondbacks’ debut. Don’t expect to see him on a big league mound before the end of June. Rotoworld Yesterday, 4:53 pm
    • Scheduled for rehab assignment
Maeda (illness) will make a rehab start with Triple-A Toledo on Sunday, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports.

Advice: Maeda has been dealing with a viral illness that landed him on the IL on May 11. He began throwing off the mound Wednesday, and he'll make a rehab start with Triple-A Toledo on Sunday. Barring any setback, that would put Maeda in line to return for May 24 against the Blue Jays. The 36-year-old right-hander is 1-1 over seven starts this season with a 6.75 ERA, 1.40 WHIP and 23:10 K:BB over 30.2 innings. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 4:30 pm

    • Kenta Maeda (illness) to make rehab start Sunday
Kenta Maeda (illness) will make a minor league rehab start at Triple-A Toledo on Sunday.

Advice: It remains unclear whether or not he’ll require any additional rehab outings after that first one to get back into the swing of things. Maeda has been disastrous in his first season with the Tigers so far, posting a 6.75 ERA, 1.40 WHIP and a 23/10 K/BB ratio across 30 2/3 innings through his first seven starts.
