      Assad allowed one run on five hits and two walks while striking out seven batters over five innings in a no-decision against San Francisco on Monday.

      Advice: Assad needed 92 pitches to get through five frames, but he was effective during his time on the mound, limiting the Giants to just a fourth-inning run. However, the right-hander couldn't pick up his first win since mid-May, as Chicago's offense wasn't able to push across a run until after his departure.       Javier Assad allowed one run in five innings and got a no-decision against the Giants on Monday.



      Advice: Assad gave up five hits, walked two and struck out seven. He won four of his first nine starts of the season, but hasn’t won any of his last six starts. Assad struck out at least seven batters for the fourth time in his last five starts. His ERA is now 2.75 on the year. The 26-year-old right-hander is set to face the Mets at home this weekend.

      Dunning (4-6) took the loss Sunday against Seattle, allowing two runs on four hits and three walks over 4.2 innings. He struck out eight.

      Advice: Dunning failed to complete five innings for the fourth time in his last six starts, getting pulled with two outs in the fifth Sunday after allowing Josh Rojas to hit a double and score from second on a wild pitch before walking Julio Rodriguez. While Dunning hasn't surrendered more than five hits in an outing this season, he's had plenty of issues with the long ball, allowing 1.7 HR/9.       Dane Dunning allowed two runs over 4 2/3 innings and struck out eight before being lifted from his start against the Mariners on Sunday.

      Advice: Dunning’s K rate this year has been quite encouraging — he’s fanned 67 in 59 innings — but the extra homers and extra walks he’s given up have made him a far less effective pitcher than he was last year. If he remains in the rotation and has more luck with homers, he still might be a factor in mixed leagues after the break.       Advice: Smith gave up a run for the first time since May 22, though it was deemed unearned since Mookie Betts advanced to second base on an error before Freddie Freeman brought him home with an RBI single. After a rough start to the year cost him his high-leverage role, Smith has allowed just three runs (two earned) over his last 14.2 innings, though he has a mediocre 10:3 K:BB in that span.       Reynaldo López shut out the Orioles for six innings, striking out eight, in the Braves’ 6-3 win Thursday.

      Advice: López left with a four-run lead, which was fortunate since Pierce Johnson gave up a three-run homer in the seventh. It’s just the fourth victory for López, even though he’s allowed three runs or fewer in all 12 of his starts.       Lopez (4-2) earned the win Thursday, allowing no runs on two hits and a walk over six innings against the Orioles. He struck out eight.

      Advice: Lopez allowed only three baserunners on the day, never more than one in an inning, and matched a season-high with eight strikeouts. The right-hander now has eight quality starts while never allowing more than three runs in an outing and allowing two runs or less in 11 of his 12 starts.       Assad did not factor into the decision in Wednesday's 4-3 win over Tampa Bay, allowing two runs on five hits and two walks with four strikeouts over 4.2 innings.

      Advice: Assad opened with two scoreless frames then allowed a run in the third on a double by Isaac Paredes and another on a solo home run by Jose Siri in the fourth. With two runners on and two outs in the fifth, Assad was pulled at 90 pitches with a 2-1 deficit. Since his last win on May 15, Assad has failed to reach six innings or record a win in five straight outings and has seen his ERA climb from 1.49 to 2.81.
