    • Vladimir Guerrero Jr. swipes base in loss to Bucs
      Vladimir Guerrero Jr. swiped his second base of the season and scored the Blue Jays’ lone run in Saturday’s loss to the Pirates.

      Advice: The 25-year-old slugger smacked a one-out single off of Mitch Keller in the sixth inning, advanced to second on a line drive off the bat of Bo Bichette and scored the Jays’ only run on a two-out RBI single by Dan Vogelbach. He also drew a walk in the opening inning and swiped second base, but was left stranded there.     • Not starting against lefty
      Cruz isn't in the Pirates' lineup for Saturday's game against the Blue Jays, Andrew Destin of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.

    • Hit hard in Friday's loss
      Maeda (2-2) took the loss Friday as the Tigers fell 7-3 to the Red Sox, coughing up five runs on eight hits and two walks over 4.2 innings. He struck out six.

      Advice: It could have been a lot worse for the veteran right-hander. While five of the eight hits he surrendered went for extra bases, three of them were doubles high off the Green Monster that nearly left Fenway Park completely. Maeda took a big step back after blanking the Blue Jays over five innings in his first start off the IL back on May 24, but Friday's performance was more in line with his 2024 campaign so far. Maeda will take a 6.25 ERA, 1.41 WHIP and 30:12 K:BB through 40.1 innings into his next outing, which lines up to come on the road next week against the Rangers. Rotowire.com Today, 5:41 am
       
    • Pete Alonso returns to lineup Friday vs. D-backs
      Pete Alonso went 1-for-5 with an RBI on Friday against the Diamondbacks in his return to the Mets’ lineup.

      Advice: Alonso was able to come off the bench and deliver a pinch-hit double during Thursday’s series opener, less than 24 hours after being diagnosed with a bone bruise in his right hand.       Buehler (1-3) allowed four runs (three earned) on six hits and four walks while striking out seven over six innings, taking the loss Friday versus the Rockies.

      Advice: Buehler gave up three runs in the third inning and a solo home run to Ezequiel Tovar in the fourth. While it wasn't a particularly sharp outing for Buehler, the Dodgers failed to support him with just five hits and two walks. He has two quality starts in five outings since returning from Tommy John surgery. Buehler is at a 4.32 ERA, 1.32 WHIP and 24:7 K:BB over 25 innings this season.     • Walker Buehler gives up three earned in defeat
      Walker Buehler allowed four runs — three earned — in a loss Friday to the Rockies.

      Advice: Buehler dealt with control issues, as he walked four while throwing 56-of-92 pitches for strikes. The 29-year-old allowed three runs in the third with run-scoring hits by Brendan Rodgers and Kris Bryant, and an inning later he allowed a solo shot to Ezequiel Tovar. It wasn’t a horrific start and Buehler did strike out seven, but a disappointing one considering the opponent. He’ll get the Pirates next week, assuming the rotation doesn’t change.     • Spotted in walking boot
      Wacha was wearing a walking boot on his left foot following Friday's loss to the Padres, Pete Grathoff of The Kansas City Star reports.

      Advice: Wacha took a 90-mph line drive off his left foot during the first at-bat of Friday's contest. He was able to remain in the game and pitch 5.1 innings of two-run ball while logging two strikeouts, but it's obvious his shot to the foot has bothered him. The 32-year-old right-hander said after the game that he will undergo imaging Saturday, at which point he and the Royals will have a better idea as to how severe the damage is.     • Michael Wacha in walking boot after Friday’s start
      Michael Wacha was seen in a walking boot in the Royals’ clubhouse following Friday night’s start against the Padres.

      Advice: Wacha was hit in the foot by a line drive by the very first batter during Friday’s start. He wound up staying in the game and giving up just two runs over 5 1/3 innings of work, but was sore after the game. The right-hander told reporters after the game that he’ll get some scans done on Saturday to see if any damage was done, but that he’s hoping for good news.       Lopez (3-2) yielded a run on four hits and two walks over six innings Friday, striking out eight and earning a win over the Athletics.

      Advice: Lopez worked around some trouble throughout the contest and turned in one of his best starts of the year. He recorded a season-high eight strikeouts with 16 whiffs, including nine with his slider. It was the first time he recorded more than five punchouts in a start since April 30.
