    • Delivers walk-off home run
Burger went 1-for-5 with a three-run homer in Sunday's win over the White Sox.

Advice: Burger was 0-for-4 with a pair of punchouts before he belted a three-run shot to win the game in the ninth inning. He's gone deep three times in his last 10 games after halting his 11-game drought. On the year, Burger owns a disappointing .216/.256/.356 slash line with nine home runs and 31 RBI through 68 games. • Pre-break return possible
Cubs manager Craig Counsell said Sunday that Assad (forearm) could be activated from the injured list prior to the All-Star break, Mike McGraw of the Chicago Daily Heraldreports.

Advice: The right-hander landed on the shelf in late June with a strained forearm, but he wasn't shut down from throwing for long and had a bullpen session Friday. The Cubs have a doubleheader Saturday in St. Louis, and that would be a logicial point for him to be re-insterted into the rotation ahead of the All-Star break. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 4:06 pm

    • Jake Burger hits game-winning home run
Jake Burger went 1-for-5 with a game-winning three-run home run in a 7-4 win over the White Sox on Sunday.

Advice: With two runners on in a one-run game, the White Sox elected to walk Jesus Sanchez to set up a righty-righty matchup with Michael Kopech against Burger. Burger responded with a 431-foot shot to win the game. It was just his ninth home run of the season after hitting 34 last year, and the 28-year-old may be better off playing for a new team after the trade deadline. Rotoworld Yesterday, 2:10 pm

    • Picks up seventh win
Lopez (7-2) earned the win Sunday, allowing no runs on two hits and three walks over six innings against the Phillies. He struck out six.

Advice: Lopez dominated once again with his sixth start of the season with five or more innings and zero runs allowed, tying him with Tarik Skubal for the most such appearances in MLB. Lopez lowered his ERA to an MLB-leading 1.71 in the process. It's tied for the fifth-lowest by an Atlanta player in his first 16 starts of a season since 1912 and the lowest since Tom Glavine in 2002. The 30-year-old is already up to 89.2 innings this season, which is his most since 2019, so his workload will be something to monitor in the second half of the season. • Reynaldo López shuts down Phillies, drops ERA to 1.71
Reynaldo López twirled six shutout innings on Sunday in a 6-0 win over the Phillies. He struck out six batters and walked three en route to the win.

Advice: All López does is keep runs off the board. This was the sixth start this season where he didn’t allow an earned run and he hasn’t allowed more than three in any outing. His fastball filled up the zone and his slider put the Phillies’ hitters away. He is a lock for the All-Star team and it’s a bit shocking the White Sox kept him in the bullpen for as long as they did. Rotoworld Yesterday, 1:18 pm

    • On track for activation Tuesday
Phillies manager Rob Thomson confirmed Sunday that Schwarber (groin) will be activated from the 10-day injured list prior to Tuesday's series opener versus the Dodgers, Todd Zolecki of MLB.com reports.

Advice: After running on the field at approximately 90 percent intensity Saturday, Schwarber cleared the final hurdle in his recovery from a left groin strain by sprinting at full speed during a pregame workout Sunday. The Phillies apparently feel comfortable enough with Schwarber's health to let him return from the IL without heading out on a rehab assignment beforehand. Schwarber has made just three of his 78 starts in left field this season, and the Phillies will most likely deploy him strictly as a designated hitter during the upcoming week to lessen the possibility of a setback with the groin heading into the All-Star break. The 31-year-old's upcoming return will presumably result in fewer opportunities for David Dahl. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 1:05 pm

    • Taking seat against lefty Sunday
Cruz is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Mets.

Advice: The shortstop was hit by an Edwin Diaz fastball in the ninth inning Saturday, but there's been no indication Cruz sustained a significant injury from being plunked. Even so, the Pirates will give the lefty-hitting Cruz the afternoon off Sunday while southpaw Sean Manaea takes the hill for the Mets. Jared Triolo will check in at shortstop for Cruz, who had started in each of the previous six games while going 8-for-22 with two home runs, one double, three walks, one stolen base, five RBI and three runs. • Fans six in quality start
Waldron did not factor into the decision in a loss to the Diamondbacks on Saturday, allowing three runs on five hits and two walks over six innings while striking out six.

Advice: Waldron allowed Arizona's first run in the second after surrendering a leadoff single to open the frame, along with two walks and a second single, the latter three all coming with two outs. He would then surrender a leadoff homer to Lourdes Gurriel in the fourth and was later charged with a third run after being relieved by Yuki Matsui in the seventh. Waldron has now logged quality starts in seven of his last eight outings, though he's allowed multiple runs in three straight. The right-hander has also issued multiple free passes in five of his last six starts. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 7:33 am

    • Strong showing in loss
Gorman went 3-for-5 with two doubles and a run scored in Saturday's 14-6 loss to the Nationals.

Advice: The second baseman banged out the Cardinals' only extra-base hits on the afternoon. Gorman has produced multiple hits in three of five games to begin the month of July, and he appears to be shaking off a brutal slump that saw him slash .083/.151/.155 over the prior 24 games with a bloated 39.8 percent strikeout rate.
