      Holmes earned a save against the Twins on Thursday, allowing one hit and striking out one batter in a scoreless inning.

      Advice: Holmes gave up a one-out single after entering the game in the ninth frame, but that's all Minnesota managed against him. The talented closer has held opponents without an earned run in 27 of his 28 appearances this season, resulting in an excellent 1.32 ERA.       Lopez allowed two runs on six hits and one walk while striking out seven batters over six innings in a no-decision against Washington on Thursday.

      Advice: Lopez held the Nationals scoreless until the sixth inning, when CJ Abrams and Lane Thomas tagged him for back-to-back solo homers. Lopez looked like he could be on the ropes when the following two batters singled, but the right-handed hurler got out of the jam without another run scoring. That allowed him to register his seventh quality start in what has been a career-best campaign. Lopez ranks third among qualified starters with a 1.85 ERA through 63.1 innings on the season.     • Holmes picks up 18th save against Twins
      Clay Holmes tossed a scoreless inning and picked up the save against the Twins on Thursday.

    • Lopez allows two in no-decision Thursday
      Reynoldo Lopez allowed two runs in six innings and got a no-decision in the Braves’ 5-2 victory over the Nationals on Thursday.



      Advice: Lopez gave up six hits, walked one and struck out seven. CJ Abrams and Lane Thomas hit back-to-back home runs off him in the sixth inning. The home runs Lopez allowed were his third and fourth of the season (0.57 HR/9). Only Ranger Suarez and Luis Gil have a lower ERA than Lopez’ 1.85 (min. 50 innings), though his xFIP is significantly higher at 3.71. He has eight quality starts but he’s only won three of his 11 starts this year. The 30-year-old right-hander is set to face the Orioles on the road next week.

      Cease (5-5) allowed three runs on four hits and a walk while striking out six over six innings to take the loss Wednesday versus the Angels.

      Advice: Cease took his third loss in five outings. He was done in by the long ball again, as Nolan Schanuel took him deep to lead off the bottom of the first inning and Zach Neto added a two-run blast in the second. Cease has surrendered six homers during his five-start winless stretch. The right-hander is now at a 3.51 ERA, 0.96 WHIP and 93:22 K:BB over 77 innings across 13 starts this season. He's not having a bad year by any means -- his 2.6 BB/9 is the best of his career. Cease will look to snap his skid in his next start, tentatively projected to be at home versus the Athletics.       Rodon (8-2) earned the win over Minnesota on Wednesday, allowing two runs on three hits and no walks while striking out nine batters.

      Advice: Rodon was staked to a 4-0 lead after the first inning and never looked back, keeping alive a perfect game until Carlos Santana homered with one out in the sixth frame. The left-handed hurler picked up his sixth consecutive win, and he's notched a quality start in each of those victories. Rodon also dominated with 18 swinging strikes Wednesday en route to a season-high nine punchouts. He's bounced back from a disastrous first year in New York last season to post a 3.08 ERA, 1.08 WHIP and 71:20 K:BB through 73 innings during the current campaign.       Dylan Cease allowed three runs with six strikeouts in a loss to the Angels on Wednesday.

      Advice: All three runs off Cease came via the home run. Nolan Schanuel got the scoring started with a solo blast to lead off the first inning. Zach Neto followed with a two-run shot in the second. Cease settled in to toss four more scoreless frames while striking out six.     • Carlos Rodón strikes out nine in win over Twins
      Carlos Rodón was terrific in Wednesday’s victory over the Twins, piling up nine strikeouts over six innings of two-run baseball.

      Advice: The 31-year-old southpaw scattered just three hits on the night and didn’t allow a base on balls. He kept the Twins’ offense at bat completely through the first five frames until Carlos Santana slugged a solo homer in the sixth inning. The Twins also scratched out a run on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Carlos Correa later in the inning. Rodón generated 18 swings and misses on 100 pitches on the night — eight of those on his heater — while posting a strong CSW of 33 percent. Now 8-2 on the season, Rodón will attempt to keep the good times rolling as he carries a 3.08 ERA, 1.08 WHIP and a 71/20 K/BB ratio (73 innings) into Monday’s tilt against the Royals in Kansas City.
