• Stays hot Friday
Merrill went 1-for-3 with a solo home run in Friday's 2-1 loss to the Mets.

Advice: The 21-year-old went yard for the third time in the last two games, accounting for all of the Padres' offense on the night with a fifth-inning shot off Sean Manaea. Merrill seems to have flipped a switch in June -- over the last nine games, he's batting .353 (12-for-34) with four doubles, three homers, two steals, five RBI, six runs and an impressive 8.3 percent strikeout rate. • Begins rehab assignment
Thomas (hamstring) went 1-for-2 with a walk and a home run in the Arizona Complex League on Thursday.

Advice: Thomas opened a rehab assignment as the DH and received three plate appearances as the leadoff hitter before being removed for a pinch hitter in the sixth inning. He did not play Friday. Per Steve Gilbert of MLB.com, Thomas will likely move to Triple-A Reno to continue his rehab, and he could potentially return at some point this coming week. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 5:34 am

  • Expected to be fine
Cave received four stitches after being hit in the head by a line drive during pregame batting practice Friday, Patrick Lyons of JustBaseball.com reports.

Advice: Although Cave had to be carted off the field following the incident, he said after Friday's game that he felt fine and that there isn't any reason to suspect he might have suffered a concussion. It's possible the Rockies will keep the 31-year-old outfielder sidelined for another game or two just to be safe, but a trip to the injured list doesn't seem likely. Cave has slashed .238/.302/.305 with seven RBI through 116 plate appearances on the season. Rotowire.com Friday, 9:00 pm

  • J.D. Martinez doubles home two in win
J.D. Martinez went 1-for-3 with a double, walk, and two RBI on Friday against the Padres.

Advice: Martinez’s double was the extent of the Mets’ damage against Matt Waldron and offense in general on Friday. He’s now driven in the last four runs for the Mets going back to his walk-off home run on Thursday and is sporting an 18 game on-base streak. Rotoworld Friday, 8:13 pm
  • Jackson Merrill with another home run
Jackson Merrill went 1-for-3 with a solo homer Friday against the Mets.

Advice: Merrill’s home run was impressive: off lefty Sean Manaea to straight away center through the rain at Citi Field. It was another notable moment in what’s been a great rookie season for the 20-year-old. He has a .280/.314/.401 slash line with six home runs and nine stolen bases while learning center field on the fly. Rotoworld Friday, 8:12 pm
  • Marcell Ozuna crushes 19th home run in win
Marcell Ozuna went 1-for-4 with a three-run homer, walk, and two runs scored against the Rays on Friday.

Advice: Ozuna got the Braves going early, taking Zack Littell deep to the opposite field in the first inning and Atlanta wouldn’t look back. Ozuna tied Kyle Tucker for third in the league with 19 home runs and has been one of the best offensive players in baseball so far this season. Rotoworld Friday, 7:03 pm
  • Jake Cave (head) scratched from Rockies’ lineup
Jake Cave was scratched from the Rockies’ starting lineup on Friday after sustaining a “minor cut to his forehead” when he was hit in the side of the head by a line drive during batting practice.

Advice: It sounds like he was fortunate to have avoided a more serious injury, but Rockies’ skipper Bud Black said he would provide another update on his status after Friday’s game. Elehuris Montero will take his place in the Rockies lineup, with Charlie Blackmon shifting from designated hitter to right field. Rotoworld Friday, 4:29 pm

  • Jake Cave suffers injury during batting practice
Jake Cave had to be carted off the field on Friday after taking a line drive off his head during batting practice.

Advice: Cave was down on the ground for roughly 10 minutes before he was carted off the field in a scary situation pregame on Friday. He’ll head for further evaluation. Look for the Rockies to provide an update on his status as soon as one becomes available. Rotoworld Friday, 3:38 pm

  • Carted off field during BP
Cave was carted off the field during the Rockies' pre-game batting practice after being hit in the side of the head by a line drive, Patrick Saunders of The Denver Post reports.

Advice: Cave was stationed in right field as the Rockies took BP. Trainers were seen applying pressure to the outfielder's head before he was carted off the field. Cave was slated to bat eighth and play right field but was scratched after the incident. The severity of the injury isn't yet known. Rotowire.com Friday, 3:30 pm
