• Makes history with walk-off homer
Merrill went 2-for-4 with two solo home runs in Wednesday's 5-4 win over the A's.

Advice: The rookie center fielder took Hogan Harris deep in the fifth inning, setting the stage for Merrill to play hero by ripping a slider from Mason Miller down the right-field line in the bottom of the ninth for his first career walk-off homer. In the process, Merrill become the youngest player in Padres history with a walk-off blast, and the youngest player in MLB history with a two-homer game that included a walk-off shot. The 21-year-old snapped a 26-game homer drought with the performance. He's been heating up in June, however, batting .355 (11-for-31) over the last eight contests with four doubles, two steals, four RBI and five runs. Rotowire.com Thursday, 6:35 am
  • Jackson Merrill slugs walk-off homer to sink A’s
Jackson Merrill blasted two solo homers, including a game-winning blast in the ninth inning, powering the Padres to a 5-4 walk-off victory over the Athletics.

Advice: Merrill took Athletics fire-balling closer Mason Miller deep into the right-field corner for his fifth round-tripper of the season to send the Friars faithful home in walk-off fashion. The 21-year-old rookie center fielder also took Oakland starter Hogan Harris deep in the fifth inning as part of his first career multi-homer performance. He’s caught fire over the last few weeks, batting .294 (30-for-105) with three homers and five steals over his past 30 games. Rotoworld Wednesday, 5:27 pm
  • On base four times Tuesday
Carroll went 3-for-4 with a triple, a double, a walk, an RBI and two runs scored in Tuesday's 9-4 win over the Angels.

Advice: Carroll began his night with an RBI triple in the second and later came around to score. He then doubled his next time up in the fourth and would walk and cross home once more in the fifth. Carroll's been dialed in at the plate as of late. Over his last five games, he's tallied nine hits and four walks while not striking out a single time. The mini surge has lifted his slash line to .213/.300/.309 with 15 extra-base hits, 21 RBI, 35 runs and a 29:52 BB:K over 283 plate appearances. Rotowire.com Wednesday, 7:03 am
  • On track to play games
Thomas (hamstring) is expected to serve as the designated hitter for the Diamondbacks' entry in the Arizona Complex League on Thursday, Alex Weiner of Arizona Sports reports.

Advice: Thomas has been running the bases and will be on the field Wednesday at Chase Field to take batting practice and perform outfield work before heading to the ACL. Arizona manager Torey Lovullo reiterated a statement made earlier that Thomas may not need as many games as teammate Geraldo Perdomo, who had a seven-game (16 plate appearances) rehab assignment before his return from a knee injury Tuesday. • Corbin Carroll goes 3-for-4 in D-backs’ victory
Corbin Carroll went 3-for-4 with a triple, a double and a walk versus the Angels on Tuesday.

Advice: Carroll has nine hits, four walks and zero strikeouts in his last five games, boosting his OBP from .278 to .300. He’s still a long way from where he needs to be, but things are getting better. Rotoworld Tuesday, 11:49 pm
  • Resumes rehab assignment
Ahmed (wrist) returned to Triple-A Sacramento's lineup for Tuesday's game versus Reno and went 0-for-4.

Advice: Ahmed was pulled off of his rehab assignment after his first game June 1 due to a setback with his sprained left wrist. The shortstop is rehabbing alongside Marco Luciano (hamstring), though there's no guarantee either player will have a starting job waiting for them once cleared to return to the majors. • Stays hot in loss
Vaughn went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in Tuesday's 4-3 loss to the Mariners.

Advice: Vaughn has hit safely in his last 11 games, going 16-for-44 (.364) with three homers and five RBI in that span. The first baseman is up to a .226/.283/.372 slash line with seven long balls, 23 RBI, 23 runs scored and one stolen base across 62 contests. Vaughn hasn't been at risk of losing playing time in the White Sox's weak offense, but his recent play has positioned him as one of the team's better batters after he shook off his slow start to the campaign. • Juan Soto back in right field Tuesday vs. Royals
Juan Soto is back in right field for Tuesday’s game against the Royals.

Advice: Soto is back patrolling right field for the first time since leaving last Thursday’s game against the Twins with left forearm discomfort. Clearly, the Yankees aren’t too concerned about the issue moving forward if he’s already back out there in the outfield after missing just a handful of contests to undergo further testing. • Records two hits in return
Machado went 2-for-4 in Monday's 6-1 win against Oakland.

Advice: Machado missed four games due to a strained right hip flexor before returning to the lineup as the Padres' designated hitter Monday. He singled in his first at-bat and reached third base on an ensuing single and walk. Machado notched another single in the seventh and again reached third on a pair of singles before being pulled for a pinch runner, though that decision didn't appear to be related to a worsening of the hip issue. It's unclear when Machado may be asked to play the field again. Rotowire.com Tuesday, 10:02 am
