    • Early woes mar outing
Irvin (6-3) suffered the loss Thursday, allowing four runs (three earned) on nine hits and a walk over 5.2 innings against Atlanta. He struck out eight.

Advice: Irvin allowed hits to the first three batters in the game, including back-to-back doubles that immediately put the Orioles in a two-run hole. He was able to piece things together from there, allowing only one more earned run and striking out a season-high eight batters to keep the O's in the game. It's the third-straight game Irvin has allowed eight or more hits, though it's just the second time in his last 11 outings he's given up as many as three earned runs, raising his ERA to 3.03 through 68.1 innings. He's next slated to take the hill early next week when the Orioles travel to New York for a showdown against the first-place Yankees. Rotowire.com Thursday, 1:35 pm

    • Cleared to start Sunday
Lively (undisclosed) is listed as the Guardians' probable starting pitcher for Sunday's game against the Blue Jays in Toronto.

Advice: Lively experienced some unspecified tightness during his most recent start in Miami on Saturday, when he tossed five shutout innings prior to being lifted. The issue won't result in Lively's turn being skipped, but he'll be pushed back in the schedule and given a full week off before stepping back into the rotation. After joining the Guardians this offseason on a modest one-year, $750,000 contract, Lively has been a valuable piece of the Cleveland rotation in 2024, going 6-2 with a 2.59 ERA and 1.11 WHIP over 55.2 innings across 10 starts. • Next start pushed back
Manager Dave Roberts said Wednesday that Yamamoto's next start will be pushed back from Thursday against the Rangers in Los Angeles to Saturday's home game versus Kansas City, Kirsten Watson of Spectrum SportsNet LA reports.

Advice: The Dodgers haven't announced a replacement starter for Thursday's contest, but they will give the rookie right-hander an extra couple of days to rest up after he threw a season-high 106 pitches across seven scoreless innings during his last outing against the Yankees on June 7. The 25-year-old has put up a 2.50 ERA and 1.11 WHIP alongside a 22:5 K:BB across 18 innings over his last three starts. Rotowire.com Wednesday, 4:38 pm

    • Cruises to eighth win
Wheeler (8-3) picked up the win in Tuesday's 4-1 victory over the Red Sox, allowing one run on three hits and a walk over seven innings. He struck out four.

Advice: Two of the hits came on the first two batters he faced as Boston pushed across a run in the bottom of the first inning, but Wheeler shut the opposition down the rest of the way. The right-hander exited after 88 pitches (59 strikes) with his fifth straight quality start and 11th of the season, putting him in a tie for the major-league lead with four other pitchers. Wheeler will take a 2.16 ERA, 0.94 WHIP and 95:27 K:BB through 87.2 innings into his next outing, which lines up to come on the road this weekend in Baltimore. Rotowire.com Wednesday, 4:06 am

    • Zack Wheeler contains Red Sox over seven innings
Zack Wheeler allowed one run on three hits over seven innings in a win over the Red Sox on Tuesday.

Advice: Wheeler struck out four and walked one, so it wasn’t an overpowering outing, but he also allowed just one extra-base hit and an average exit velocity on balls in play of just 79 mph. Wheeler induced just five whiffs on 43 swings for a 12 percent whiff rate and 24 percent CSW. He’ll now take a 2.16 ERA into a tough showdown this weekend against the Orioles. • Should make next start
Guardians manager Stephen Vogt said Tuesday that Lively (undisclosed) has checked out fine and is expected to make his next turn through the rotation, Mandy Bell of MLB.com reports.

Advice: The 32-year-old experienced some unspecified tightness during his start in Miami over the weekend, which resulted in him being lifted after five scoreless innings. Lively hasn't had any issues over the past couple days, putting him on track to start this weekend in Toronto. Cleveland should confirm its pitching plans later in the week. • Vogt: Ben Lively to make next scheduled start
Guardians manager Stephen Vogt told reporters Ben Lively (undisclosed) is on track to make his next start.

Advice: Lively went back to Cleveland over the weekend to undergo additional testing for an undisclosed injury. The 32-year-old journeyman appears to have checked out fine and will presumably take the ball on Saturday against the Blue Jays. Rotoworld Tuesday, 2:06 pm

    • Logan Gilbert gets no-decision after quality start
Logan Gilbert was left with a no-decision Monday after allowing three runs in 6 2/3 innings against the White Sox.

Advice: Gilbert struck out eight and walked none. The Mariners have struggled mightily to score runs while Gilbert is in the game, but they did score eight after he left to win tonight. Gilbert is just 3-4 in spite of a 3.19 ERA and an 84/20 K/BB in 90 1/3 innings. Rotoworld Monday, 10:44 pm

    • Fans eight in no-decision
Gilbert allowed three runs on six hits and no walks while striking out eight batters over 6.2 innings in a no-decision against the White Sox on Monday.

Advice: Gilbert got through five scoreless frames before Luis Robert tagged him for a two-run homer in the sixth. The righty hurler returned for the seventh and gave up another run on a pair of hits before being pulled with two outs. Though he faded over his final two innings, Gilbert tied his second-highest strikeout total of the campaign and finished with his fifth quality start over his past six outings. However, he hasn't earned any victories over that stretch despite posting a solid 3.52 ERA. Rotowire.com Monday, 9:51 pm
