      Advice: Irvin was called upon for a long-relief outing after John Means (elbow) exited following a rain delay. The severity of Means' injury is unknown at this time, but if it requires a stint on the injured list, Irvin has a clear path back to the rotation after making his last two appearances out of the bullpen. Irvin has pitched well this season with a 3.15 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and 30:8 K:B over 45.2 innings through nine appearances (seven starts). Means' spot in the rotation is slated for a home start versus the Red Sox next week, and Irvin's appearance Wednesday would put him on schedule to step into that spot if necessary.       Irvin appeared out of the bullpen in Sunday's 6-3 win over the Mariners, collecting his first hold of the season while working around one hit and allowing no walks in two scoreless innings.

      Advice: Despite posting a 2.90 ERA while starting in his first seven appearances of the season, Irvin was moved to the bullpen over the weekend while the Orioles were able to get by with a shortened rotation due to off days last Tuesday and Thursday. According to Jacob Calvin Meyer of The Baltimore Sun, manager Brandon Hyde suggested that Irvin won't be a regular member of the bullpen moving forward, as the Orioles plan to move back to a six-man rotation while they're now in the midst of a stretch of 30 games in 31 days. Per Jake Rill of MLB.com, Irvin isn't scheduled to start any of the Orioles' remaining five games this week, but the southpaw could re-enter the rotation next week or the week after.       Sandlin (4-0) walked one and struck out two without allowing a hit or a run over two-thirds of an inning to earn the win Tuesday over the Mets.

      Advice: Starter Xzavion Curry went 4.1 innings, falling short of qualifying for the win. Sandlin stepped up to finish the fifth inning, working his way out of a bases-loaded jam. The right-hander has kept runs off the board in all but three of his 26 appearances, though he has given up multiple runs in each of those three missteps. He's still pitched to a rock-solid 2.35 ERA, 0.78 WHIP and 27:7 K:BB with a save and three holds over 23 innings while filling a fireman role in the Guardians' bullpen.       Sale (7-1) earned the win over San Diego in the second game of Monday's doubleheader, allowing five hits and no walks while striking out nine batters over seven scoreless innings.

      Advice: Sale dominated a Padres offense that had put up 18 runs in winning the first three games of the series, racking up 18 swinging strikes and registering his third straight scoreless outing. The left-hander fell one punchout shy of his second double-digit strikeout effort of the campaign and has now fanned at least nine batters in four straight appearances, recording exactly nine strikeouts three times during that span. Sale has accumulated 19 scoreless frames over his past three starts with a 28:1 K:BB during that span, giving Atlanta a dominant hurler to help ease the early season loss of Spencer Strider (elbow).       Yamamoto (5-1) earned the win Monday over the Diamondbacks, allowing two runs on seven hits and a walk while striking out eight over 6.1 innings.

      Advice: Yamamoto was able to rebound after being not at his best last Monday versus the Giants. The rookie right-hander put together his fifth quality start in his last six outings, though the win was briefly endangered after Elieser Hernandez gave up a pair of solo home runs in the eighth inning. Yamamoto is at a 3.17 ERA, 1.06 WHIP and 61:11 K:BB through 54 innings over 10 starts this season.       Gilbert allowed three runs on eight hits and a walk over six innings in a no-decision Monday. He struck out one during the win over the Yankees.

      Advice: Gilbert coughed up two runs in the first inning but was still able to settle in for a quality start. He produced a stellar 1.69 ERA through his first seven starts but has seen that climb to 3.20 after allowing 14 runs over his last 16.2 frames. On the bright side, two of those outings were quality starts. Gilbert recorded only one strikeout with five whiffs, with both setting new season lows.       Logan Gilbert allowed three runs in six innings and got a no-decision against the Yankees on Monday.



      Advice: Gilbert recorded only one strikeout and allowed eight hits and a walk. He battled in a tough matchup against the Yankees on the road. This was his lowest strikeout total of the season by far, but otherwise Gilbert has been fairly consistent. He’s had eight quality starts in 10 tries this season. The 27-year-old right-hander is set to face the Nationals on the road on Saturday.

    • Sale continues dominant run Monday
      Chris Sale threw seven shutout innings, struck out nine and picked up the win in the Braves’ 3-0 victory over the Padres on Monday.



      Advice: The win was Sale’s seventh in nine starts this season. He continued his excellent run and lowered his ERA to 2.22, which is in the top five in the National League among qualified starters. In Sale’s last five starts, he’s struck out 43 batters, allowed no more than one walk in any start and no more than one earned run in any start. He’s been great this year for fantasy managers that took a chance on the oft-injured pitcher. The 35-year-old left-hander is scheduled to face the Pirates on the road on Saturday.

      Taillon (3-2) allowed three runs on six hits and two walks while striking out four over 4.2 innings to take the loss Sunday versus the Pirates.

      Advice: Taillon was a bit inefficient, throwing 55 of 92 pitches for strikes. This was the second start in a row where he failed to complete five innings, and it's the third time in a row he's walked multiple batters. The right-hander is now at a 2.20 ERA, 1.19 WHIP and 22:10 K:BB through 32.2 innings over six starts, though his strong April has given way to a shakier May following a bout with back stiffness.
