• J.D. Martinez homers, drives in four in rout
J.D. Martinez delivered a three-run homer and an RBI single Friday as the Mets torched the Cubs 11-1.

Advice: Martinez is 11-for-27 with four homers, three doubles and 12 RBI in his last eight games. His current .870 OPS is practically a match for his career mark of .873, but it’s especially impressive given the current conditions, especially for a Mets hitter. Unfortunately, he’s probably going to lose his streak of five straight All-Star appearances, unless maybe the NL carries a third DH alongside Shohei Ohtani and Marcell Ozuna. • Jose Quintana strikes out eight in beating Cubs
Jose Quintana held the Cubs to an unearned run over 6 1/3 innings and struck out eight in Friday’s win.

Advice: After the Mets scored three runs in the top of the first, the Cubs, aided by a Mark Vientos error, appeared poised to come right back, loading the bases with no outs in the bottom of the inning. Alas, that’s not the way it worked out. Christopher Morel grounded into a run-scoring double play, and it proved to be the only run the Cubs would get all day. It’s the first time this season Quintana has gone without allowing an earned run. It’s also the second straight start in which he’s topped his season high for strikeouts; he hadn’t had more than four before fanning six Padres last week. Back-to-back victories have moved him to 3-5 with a 4.58 ERA. Rotoworld 30 minutes ago

  • Shota Imanaga gives up 10 runs, 11 hits to Mets
Shota Imanaga was tagged for 10 runs and 11 hits in 3 1/3 innings by the Mets on Friday.

Advice: With his velocity down 1-2 mph on all of his pitches, Imanaga was crushed today, giving up three homers and 11 hard-hit balls in all. He was effective in his previous two starts, but this makes three out of five outings in which he’s struggled; he’s allowed 21 earned runs in those five outings after giving up a total of five in his first nine starts. The velocity is something to watch; he’s been really effective throwing at 92 mph at the top of the zone, but 90 mph might not get it done there. Rotoworld 30 minutes ago

  • Brandon Nimmo hits third homer in four games
Brandon Nimmo went 2-for-4 with a two-run homer, a walk and three runs scored versus the Cubs on Friday.

Advice: This has turned into quite a hot streak. Nimmo has three homers in four games, and he’s 14-for-29 in his last seven games, raising his season OPS from .708 to .783. Rotoworld 30 minutes ago

  • Jose Iglesias goes 4-for-5, drives in three
Starting at second base over Jeff McNeil against a lefty, Jose Iglesias went 4-for-5 and knocked in three runs Friday against the Cubs.

Advice: Iglesias is now 14-for-32 since being called up, giving him a nice .438 average. He has 40% as many runs batted in as McNeil (six to 15) in 14% as many at-bats (32 to 233). It wouldn’t hurt to give him some playing time against righties; McNeil actually has an even lower OPS against them than he does lefties (.583 to .609). Rotoworld 30 minutes ago

  • Returning to Arlington
Jung (wrist) was pulled from his rehab assignment Friday to be evaluated in Arlington before the Rangers decide whether or not to activate him this weekend, Evan Grant of The Dallas Morning News reports.

Advice: Jung went 4-for-17 in four rehab games with Triple-A Round Rock and could be cleared to rejoin the Rangers' active roster this weekend. The third baseman hasn't played since fracturing his wrist on April 1 and was initially expected to receive roughly 30 at-bats in the minor leagues before being reinstated. Josh Smith and Ezequiel Duran have been handling most of the third base work during Jung's absence. Rotowire.com 32 minutes ago

  • Max Scherzer not starting for Rangers on Saturday
Rangers’ manager Bruce Bochy announced Friday that Jon Gray will start on Saturday against the Royals.

Advice: There had been speculation that Max Scherzer would make his 2024 season debut on Saturday, but it’ll be Gray getting the ball instead. Bochy was quick to point out that Scherzer has not had any sort of setback and could still return to start Sunday’s series finale against the Royals. Stay tuned. Rotoworld 33 minutes ago

  • Max Kepler (neck) remains out of lineup on Friday
Max Kepler (neck) remains out of the Twins’ starting lineup for Friday night’s tilt against the Athletics in Oakland.

Advice: Kepler was pulled from Thursday’s contest due to neck spasms. He isn’t expected to require a trip to the injured list, but with southpaws on tap for Saturday and Sunday, it’s unlikely that we see Kepler return to the Twins’ lineup until early next week. Manuel Margot will start in right field on Friday night and will bat seventh against Joey Estes and the A’s. Rotoworld 36 minutes ago

  • Rockies activate Brendan Rodgers from 10-day IL
Rockies activated INF Brendan Rodgers from the 10-day injured list.

Advice: The 27-year-old infielder hadn’t been expected to return until Saturday, but he’ll rejoin the Rockies a day early with Adael Amador (oblique) landing on the injured list on Friday. Unless there’s a late modification to the lineup though, Rodgers will not rejoin the lineup on Friday night as Alan Trejo is set to start at second base against DJ Herz and the Nationals.
