Ryan (4-3) earned the win Monday against the Royals, allowing one run on four hits and no walks over seven innings. He struck out nine.

Advice: Ryan dominated the Royals, generating an impressive 15 whiffs en route to his nine punchouts. With Monday's effort, the 27-year-old righty collected his eighth quality start of the season. Overall, Ryan sports a 2.96 ERA, 0.94 WHIP and 73:9 K:BB in 67 innings. He is tentatively scheduled to pitch against the Astros on the road in his next start. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 3:24 pm

    • Astros place Cristian Javier on IL due to forearm
Astros placed RHP Cristian Javier on the 15-day injured list, retroactive to May 24, due to right forearm discomfort.

Advice: The Astros don’t seem to think Javier’s problem is significant, but we’ll see. He’ll definitely miss two starts now. The Astros could bring up Eric Lauer to step in if they want to stick with a six-man rotation, but that’s not the immediate plan; they’re going with Hunter Brown, Justin Verlander and Spencer Arrighetti from Tuesday through Thursday. Tuesday would have been Javier’s day to pitch. Rotoworld Yesterday, 2:59 pm

    • Goes on IL for right forearm
The Astros placed Javier on the 15-day injured list Monday, retroactive to May 24, due to right forearm discomfort.

Advice: Javier was scheduled for a bullpen session Sunday, but he was pulled after experiencing discomfort in his right forearm. He'll be sent for imaging Tuesday to determine the extent of the injury, per Brian McTaggart of MLB.com. With Javier on the IL, Hunter Brown will start Tuesday against the Mariners, while Justin Verlander and Spencer Arrighetti take the mound Wednesday and Thursday, respectively, per Matt Kawahara of the Houston Chronicle. The Astros recalled right-hander Alex Speas from Triple-A Sugar Land in a corresponding move. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 2:56 pm

    • Joe Ryan strikes out nine in win over Royals
Joe Ryan recorded nine strikeouts and allowed one run over seven innings on Monday in a win over the Royals.

Advice: Ryan authored yet another stellar performance on Monday afternoon at Target Field, carrying a shutout into the sixth inning before Kansas City finally broke through courtesy of a two-out RBI single from Vinnie Pasquantino. It was his highest single-start strikeout total since a 12-punchout performance back on April 13 against the Tigers as he induced 15 swinging strikes, including 11 on his fastball, and finished with a robust 33 percent CSW. He’s rapidly cementing his status as an upper-echelon fantasy contributor, having allowed three earned runs or fewer in 10 of his 11 starts at the outset of the season. He’ll bring a strong 2.96 ERA, 0.94 WHIP and 73/9 K/BB ratio across 67 innings (11 starts) into a challenging road tilt on Saturday against the Astros. Rotoworld Yesterday, 1:38 pm

    • Dealing with forearm discomfort
Javier is dealing with forearm discomfort and didn't throw his scheduled bullpen session Sunday, Matt Kawahara of the Houston Chronicle reports.

Advice: Manager Joe Espada said Javier is day-to-day, but the right-hander would appear to be at significant risk of missing his next turn through the rotation Tuesday in Seattle. Chandler Rome of The Athletic speculates Hunter Brown could start Tuesday on four days' rest, with Eric Lauer a possibility to be called up from Triple-A Sugar Land to fill Javier's turn in the rotation Wednesday. • Cristian Javier (forearm) considered day-to-day
Cristian Javier did not throw his scheduled bullpen session on Sunday due to discomfort in his forearm.

Advice: The 27-year-old right-hander is being considered day-to-day, but that has to put Tuesday’s start against the Mariners in Seattle in jeopardy. Look for the Astros to provide more information on his status prior to Monday’s contest. Fantasy managers should be sure to have a contingency plan in place in the event that Javier is unable to go. • Allows two runs Saturday
Civale allowed two runs on four hits and a walk while striking out five over five innings in a no-decision versus the Royals on Saturday.

Advice: Civale did a fine job, limiting the damage to a Nelson Velazquez solo shot in the second inning and a Bobby Witt RBI single in the third. This was Civale's eighth straight start without a win, though he's at least managed to complete five innings in each of his last three outings after a run of four starts where he failed to do so. The right-hander has a poor 5.72 ERA with a 1.34 WHIP and 57:15 K:BB over 56.2 innings across 11 starts this season. He's projected for a tough road start in Baltimore his next time out. • Rehab start could come next week
Yankees manager Aaron Boone said Saturday that there's a chance Cole (elbow) will begin a rehab assignment as soon as the upcoming week, Chris Kirschner of The Athletic reports.

Advice: Cole threw a live batting practice session Saturday without issue, marking the second time he's faced hitters since he resumed a throwing program. According to Erik Boland of Newsday, Cole utilized all of his pitches in the simulated game and reached 95 miles per hour on his fastball, a velocity limit the Yankees had imposed on him prior to the throwing session as a matter of precaution. Cole could be asked to throw another live BP, but beginning a rehab assignment also appears to be on the table. Cole will need multiple rehab starts before returning from the injured list and joining the Yankees rotation, so he's still a few weeks away from making his 2024 debut with the big club. • Aaron Civale goes five solid in no-decision vs. KC
Aaron Civale worked five innings while allowing two earned runs in a no-decision Saturday against the Royals.

Advice: Civale gave up a solo homer to Nelson Velazquez in the second, and an inning later an RBI single to Bobby Witt Jr. Outside of those frames the right-hander was solid while walking two and striking out five against the quality KC lineup. Civale had been awful in May with a 7.32 ERA for his troubles, but this might be the start that gets the 28-year-old on the right track. A chance to build on this is scheduled for Friday, but it’ll come against the daunting Baltimore lineup. Rotoworld Saturday, 4:29 pm
