      Harrison is progressing in his recovery from a right ankle sprain and had been playing catch off flat ground from up to 90 feet as of Saturday, MLB.com reports.

      Advice: While the fact that Harrison hasn't been shut down from activity one week after landing on the injured list is an encouraging sign, the Giants still aren't counting on the 22-year-old lefty to rejoin the rotation until July. With all of Harrison, Blake Snell (groin) and Keaton Winn (elbow) going on the IL within the past three weeks, the Giants are left with Logan Webb and Jordan Hicks as the only healthy members of their season-opening rotation.       Snell (groin) made a rehab start Sunday with Triple-A Sacramento, allowing two runs on three hits and three walks while failing to strike out a batter across 1.2 innings.

      Advice: Snell wasn't particularly effective in the first start of his rehab assignment, throwing just 27 of his 51 pitches for strikes in a 5-4 win over Round Rock. Following the contest, the left-hander said he anticipates needing at least one more rehab appearance, if not more, stating that he wants to be "healthy and 100 percent" before he returns from the 15-day injured list, according to Shayna Rubin of the San Francisco Chronicle.     • Framber Valdez dazzles against Orioles
      Framber Valdez allowed one run on six hits in seven innings in a win over the Orioles on Sunday.

      Advice: Valdez struck out seven and walked two on the day. He allowed just one extra-base hit, but it happened to be a solo home run to Jordan Westburg. The left-hander induced 11 whiffs on 45 swings for a 24 percent whiff rate and 34 percent CSW against a really talented offense. That’s now back-to-back really strong starts for Valdez after a rough outing against the Giants. He’ll carry a 3.68 ERA into a plus matchup against the Mets next week.       Nick Lodolo lost to the Red Sox after yielding four runs — three earned — in 4 2/3 innings Sunday.

      Advice: Lodolo hadn’t allowed more than two runs in winning five straight starts since returning from the IL, but he didn’t have quite the same stuff today. With his curveball a little off, he settled for seven missed swings in the 77-pitch outing. He also walked four.       Lodolo was limited Sunday versus the Red Sox as a result of a blister on his left index finger, Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.

      Advice: Lodolo tossed 4.2 innings, allowing four runs (three earned) on five hits and four walks while striking out three batters against Boston. The left-hander was tagged with the loss, while the four free passes were a season high, which is likely the result of the blister on his throwing hand. Following the contest, Lodolo said that "the feeling for the ball was not the same," but that it's "not impacting him a ton," so it's possible he'll be ready to go for his next start.       Blake Snell (groin) struggled in his first minor league rehab start at Triple-A Sacramento on Sunday, giving up two runs on three hits and three walks over just 1 2/3 innings.

      Advice: None of the five outs that the 31-year-old southpaw did record came via the strikeout. Snell threw 51 pitches in contest, 27 of those for strikes. The expectation was always that Snell would require at least two rehab starts before he was ready to return, and given his struggles on Sunday it’s likely that they’ll want to see better before they bring him back.       Advice: Snell pitched three innings in a simulated game Tuesday, and the goal will be to build him up to 50 pitches during his first game in Triple-A. The Giants haven't announced whether they will keep the southpaw in the minors past Saturday or return him to their rotation right away, but a decision will likely be made shortly after his first start.       Advice: Snell, who has been on the shelf since early June recovering from a left groin strain, will be followed by fellow veteran southpaw Robbie Ray, who is in the final stages of his rehabilitation from last year’s Tommy John surgery. The hope here is that Snell, who is slated to throw roughly 50 pitches on Sunday, will be ready to jump back into San Francisco’s starting rotation after a brief rehab assignment.     • Ekes out quality start Wednesday
      Pfaadt (3-6) took the loss Wednesday, giving up three runs on five hits and four walks over 6.1 innings as the Diamondbacks fell 3-1 to the Nationals. He failed to strike out a batter.

      Advice: To say the 25-year-old right-hander wasn't fooling anyone Wednesday would be an understatement. Pfaadt not only came up empty in strikeouts while issuing a season high in walks, he didn't generate a single swinging strike among his 77 pitches. He was still able to produce enough weak contact to deliver his second straight quality start and eighth of the season, however. Pfaadt will take a 4.37 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and 84:22 K:BB through 90.2 innings into his next outing, which lines up to come at home early next week against the Twins. Rotowire.com Thursday, 6:11 am
