    • Closing in on rehab assignment
      Cardinals manager Oliver Marmol said Monday that Edman (wrist) could begin a rehab assignment soon, Katie Woo of The Athletic reports.

      Advice: Edman has taken live at-bats from both sides of the plate in recent days and his surgically repaired right wrist has responded well. Since he's resided on the injured list all season, the 29-year-old would presumably require an extended minor-league rehab assignment before being activated, but he's tracking toward a return to the Cardinals before the All-Star break.     • Swipes sixth bag
      Cruz went 0-for-3 with a walk and a stolen base Sunday against the Rays.

      Advice: Cruz made plenty of highlights Saturday by blasting a home run into the Allegheny River, but he's slumped with only two hits across 19 at-bats during Pittsburgh's current homestand. He did manage to tally his sixth stolen base of the season Sunday, his first since returning from ankle soreness that caused him to miss games on June 14th and 15th.       Pena went 3-for-5 with two doubles, three RBI and a run scored in Sunday's win against the Orioles.

      Advice: Pena hit an RBI double in the first inning before knocking a two-run double in the sixth. He'd been stuck in a 6-for-49 (.122) slump since his last multi-hit game June 5. Pena's homerless drought has now reached 31 games, and he's attempted only one steal in his last 15 contests.       Cruz went 1-for-3 with a walk, a solo home run and a second run scored in Saturday's 4-3 win over the Rays.

      Advice: He destroyed the first pitch he saw from Zach Eflin in the first inning, sending the 78.2 mph curveball out of the stadium to right field and straight into the Allegheny River. Per Adam Berry and Justice delos Santos of MLB.com, it's just the sixth time since PNC Park opened that a ball has been hit into the river on the fly. Despite his prodigious physical tools, Cruz is still having trouble producing consistently for the Pirates, but he has stepped things up this month.       Oneil Cruz went 1-for-3 with two runs scored, a walk and a solo home run against the Rays on Saturday.



      Advice: Cruz’ home run was his 10th of the year. The solo shot came against Rays starter Zach Eflin in the first inning with two outs. It was Cruz’ first home run since June 8th. While he hits the ball hard when he connects, Cruz’ 32 percent strikeout percentage is still quite high. Maybe he’ll get his power stroke going in the second half of the year to help prop up all the strikeouts.

    • Oneil Cruz homers, scores twice in win over Rays
      Oneil Cruz homered and scored two runs in a 4-2 win for the Pirates on Saturday.

      Advice: Cruz obliterated a Zack Eflin pitch for a 445-foot dinger to tie the game at 1-1 in the first. The 25-year-old also drew a walk and came around to score a few batters later. There are going to be ups and downs with Cruz, but the power is obviously legitimate, and helps mitigate some of the contact issues. Rotoworld Saturday, 3:16 pm

      Henderson went 3-for-5 with two home runs, three RBI, three runs scored, a stolen base and walk in Friday's loss to the Astros.

      Advice: Henderson scored his first run in the third inning after drawing a walk and swiping second base. He then drilled a solo shot in the seventh inning and a two-run blast during the Orioles' seven-run eighth. He's produced back-to-back three-hit performances and has five multi-hit games over his last 11 appearances.       Advice: The 26-year-old shortstop has been a mainstay in the Astros’ lineup this season, so it’s rare to see him getting a night off.
