      Advice: The third baseman took Yusei Kikuchi deep in the first inning, helping to kick-start what proved to be a laugher for the Pirates. It was only Hayes' second long ball of the season, and his first in three games since recovering from back issues and coming off the IL.       Steele allowed five runs (one earned) on seven hits and four walks while striking out five batters over five innings in a no-decision against Cincinnati on Saturday.

      Advice: Steele's fantasy stat line wasn't disastrous since only one of the five runs charged to him was earned, but he was far from sharp, especially in terms of control. The southpaw hit a batter in addition to issuing a season-high four walks, and he threw just 58 of 98 pitches for strikes. Steele is usually much better at limiting free passes -- before Saturday, he had issued only seven walks over six starts -- so this was likely just a bump in the road for him.     • Steele allows five runs in no-decision
      Justin Steele allowed five runs (one earned) in five innings and got a no-decision in the Cubs’ 7-5 victory over the Reds on Saturday.



      Advice: Steele gave up seven hits, walked four and struck out five. He seemed to be turning a corner with seven shutout innings in his last start, but this was a setback for Steele. Even though most of the runs were unearned, he’s now allowed at least five runs in four of his last five starts. Steele has completed six innings in only two of his seven starts this year. His ERA was mostly spared in this one and now sits at 4.10 for the season, but when you add it all up this isn’t a recipe for winning games right now. The 28-year-old left-hander will look to improve against the Reds on the road next week.

      Smith has allowed two runs over nine innings since the start of May.

      Advice: Smith doesn't have the best control, having allowed six hits and three walks with just five strikeouts in that span. He's also picked up two of his four holds in that stretch, though manager Matt Quatraro has mostly kept Smith out of high-leverage situations since early April. The left-hander's season-long numbers remain poor (6.38 ERA, 1.58 WHIP, 12:8 K:BB), but he's been less volatile recently. With James McArthur, John Schreiber and Chris Stratton all pitching at a mediocre level in May, there could eventually be a path to high-leverage chances for Smith if he can keep performing well.       Advice: Harper provided the Phillies with extra breathing room, taking St. Louis reliever John King deep in the seventh inning. Over the previous 10 games, Harper took a small step back, batting .257 (9-for-35) with three home runs and seven RBI to close out May. Following his second consecutive multi-hit game, he's batting .276/.381/.538 with 14 homers, 44 RBI, 35 runs scored and three stolen bases over 54 contests this season.       Advice: The home run was Harper’s 14th on the season. He scored all three times he was on base and broke the game open with a two-run home run in the seventh inning to put the Phillies ahead 6-1. Harper’s average is up to .276 with a .919 OPS.       Ke’Bryan Hayes went 2-for-4 and belted a two-run homer on Saturday, powering the Pirates to a lopsided 8-1 victory over the Blue Jays in Toronto.

      Advice: Hayes put the exclamation point on a three-run first inning for the Pirates with his 404-foot (107.8 mph EV) two-run blast off of Yusei Kikuchi. That would be more than enough run support for Mitch Keller and company in this one. Hayes also led off the sixth inning with a single and scored on a fielder’s choice off the bat of Jared Triolo.
