    • Swipes first bag of 2024
Hayes went 1-for-4 with an RBI and a stolen base in Friday's 5-3 extra-innings loss to the Blue Jays.

Advice: The steal was his first of the year, after he'd swiped 30 over the prior two seasons combined. Hayes missed most of May with back trouble, which could help explain his lack of activity on the basepaths, and Friday's single was his first hit of any kind since May 5. The third baseman has a disappointing .237/.318/.311 slash line through 36 games with one homer and 12 RBI, but if he can stay healthy he's capable of heating up over the summer. • Goes deep again
Arenado went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Friday's 4-2 loss to the Phillies.

Advice: Arenado has homered in each of his last two games. The third baseman's power numbers are still way down -- he's at five homers and a .379 slugging percentage through 53 contests -- but this could be a sign of him heating up. On the year, he's batting .257 with 26 RBI, 22 runs scored, 10 doubles and no stolen bases over 226 plate appearances. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 9:03 pm
    • Resting for second game of twin bill
Hayes is out of the lineup for the second game of Wednesday's doubleheader with the Tigers.

Advice: After being activated from the injured list Tuesday, Hayes had to wait a day to make his return to the lineup due to a rainout creating a doubleheader Wednesday. He started at third base and played all eight innings in the field in the Pirates' 8-0 loss in the first game of the day, going 0-for-2 with a walk. Hayes should settle back into an everyday role at the hot corner, but the Pirates won't have him play two full games in his first day back in the lineup. Jared Triolo will fill in for him at third base in the second game of the day. Rotowire.com Wednesday, 12:33 pm
    • Nolan Arenado gets scheduled day off
Nolan Arenado is out of the Cardinals lineup Wednesday in what manager Oli Marmol said was a day off scheduled long ago.

Advice: It’s apparently very important to note that this is not a reaction to Arenado’s lengthy slump, and last night’s homer didn’t result in a change of heart and putting him into the lineup today. Brendan Donovan is starting at third base, and Matt Carpenter is getting a start at DH. Rotoworld Wednesday, 9:26 am
    • Getting breather Wednesday
Arenado is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game in Cincinnati.

Advice: Arenado snapped an 11-game homerless drought in Tuesday's 7-1 win over the Reds, but he will be given a breather for Wednesday's day game. Brendan Donovan will start at third base in place of Arenado. Rotowire.com Wednesday, 7:39 am
    • Ends power drought
Arenado went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run and a walk in Tuesday's 7-1 win over the Reds.

Advice: Arenado went 11 games without a homer prior to Tuesday. In that span, he hit a paltry .222 (10-for-45). The third baseman took Andrew Abbott deep in the fourth inning to give the Cardinals all the offense they needed in the win. Arenado is still having a rough year overall with four homers, 25 RBI, 21 runs scored, 10 doubles and a .257/.311/.366 slash line over 52 contests. While the Cardinals' offense has struggled at times, Arenado has not been able to lead by example as much as he has in previous years. Rotowire.com Tuesday, 11:05 pm
    • Activated from injured list
The Pirates activated Hayes (back) from the 10-day injured list Tuesday.

Advice: Hayes has been sidelined since early May with a back injury but will skip a rehab assignment and go directly back on the Pirates' active roster. The third baseman is slashing a disappointing .240/.322/.318 with just one home run and zero stolen bases this season. Rotowire.com Tuesday, 10:57 am
    • Pirates activate Ke’Bryan Hayes on Tuesday
Pirates activated 3B Ke’Bryan Hayes from the 10-day injured list.

Advice: Hayes returns after missing three weeks with inflammation in his back. The 27-year-old hasn’t been successful in 2024, when healthy, with a pedestrian .640 OPS. However, he was a solid option in 2023 with enough talent to suggest as a speculative add for those who need help in the corner infield. Rotoworld Tuesday, 10:50 am
    • Nearing next steps
Hayes (back) has been hitting on the field and will run the bases Sunday, MLB.com reports.

Advice: Assuming he feels well after Sunday's activity, Hayes will meet with manager Derek Shelton to determine his next steps. That would presumably either be activation from the injured list or a rebab assignment. Rotowire.com Sunday, 6:14 am
