• Cooper Criswell holds Detroit to one run in win
Cooper Criswell allowed one run with five strikeouts over five innings in a win over the Tigers on Saturday.

Advice: A double and a base hit in the first inning put the Tigers on the board with one run. Criswell would settle in to give the Red Sox four more scoreless frames, scattering two more hits and a walk while striking out five batters. The 27-year-old right-hander ends the day with a 3.92 ERA, 1.17 WHIP, and a 41/10 K/BB ratio across 43 2/3 innings. He’s in line for a start against the White Sox on Friday. • Reese Olson hit for five runs in loss to Red Sox
Reese Olson allowed five runs with five strikeouts over 5 1/3 innings in a loss to the Red Sox on Saturday.

Advice: Olson surrendered a solo homer to Enmanuel Valdez in the second inning. Two base hits and a groundout would bring a second run in to score for Boston in the third. The Red Sox added a run in the fourth on a double and a sacrifice fly. Olson would pitch into the sixth before Valdez got to him again with a two-run blast. That would do it for the 24-year-old right-hander, ending his day with a 2.48 ERA, 1.07 WHIP, and a 52/20 K/BB ratio across 61 2/3 innings. He’s set for a matchup against the Brewers in Detroit on Friday. Rotoworld Yesterday, 3:37 pm
  • Quinn Priester set to start for Pirates on Sunday
Pirates’ manager Derek Shelton confirmed on Saturday that right-hander Quinn Priester will start Sunday’s series finale against the Blue Jays.

Advice: As expected, he’ll take the place of the injured Martin Perez (groin) in the Bucs’ rotation. Priester has made five starts already for the Pirates this season, posting a 4.33 ERA, 1.52 WHIP and a 17/10 K/BB ratio over 27 frames. He’s not a recommended streaming option on Sunday. • Luis Ortiz snags first career save on Saturday
Luis Ortiz picked up the first save of his big league career on Saturday, working three scoreless innings to close out the Blue Jays.

Advice: Ortiz came on in the seventh with the Pirates holding a comfortable 6-1 lead, and all he had to do was steer the ship home. He allowed just one hit over his three scoreless frames while striking out three batters along the way. He’s not going to suddenly challenge David Bednar for save chances, but it’s probably a nice confidence boost for him to be able to close one out. Rotoworld Yesterday, 3:06 pm

  • Mitch Keller fans eight in victory over Blue Jays
Mitch Keller delivered a dominant performance in Saturday afternoon’s victory over the Blue Jays, racking up eight strikeouts over six innings of one-run baseball.

Advice: The 28-year-old right-hander scattered just five hits and one walk on the day. The lone tally against him came in the sixth inning as Vladimir Guerrero Jr. singled, advanced on a line drive and raced around to score on a two-out single by Dan Vogelbach. That’s really the only time that they threatened. Keller generated 10 swings and misses on 106 pitches in the ballgame, posting a CSW of 28 percent. Now 7-3 on the season, he’ll tote an impressive 3.42 ERA, 1.22 WHIP and a 66/20 K/B ratio (73 2/3 innings) into Friday’s showdown against the Twins. Rotoworld Yesterday, 3:01 pm
  • Promotion imminent
Priester will be recalled from Triple-A Indianapolis on Sunday to start against the Blue Jays, Andrew Destin of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.

Advice: Priester was sent to Triple-A on May 15 after posting a 4.33 ERA and 1.52 WHIP through his first five starts of the season. He's managed to bounce back since then, firing seven scoreless innings during his most recent Triple-A start. He's now likely to maintain a spot in the Pirates rotation until Martin Perez (groin) returns from the 15-day injured list. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 3:01 pm

  • Yusei Kikuchi hit hard in loss to Pirates Saturday
Yusei Kikuchi was hit hard in Saturday afternoon’s loss to the Pirates, giving up six runs (five earned) on nine hits over his 5 1/3 innings of work.

Advice: The 32-year-old southpaw struck out four batters on the afternoon while issuing one base on balls. The Pirates jumped on him for three runs in the opening inning, including a two-run blast off the bat of Ke’Bryan Hayes. Kikuchi then settled in until they scratched out two more in the fifth and another while chasing him in the sixth inning. He generated 12 swings and misses on 89 pitches on the day, posting a CSW of 28 percent. He’ll look to get back on track as he carries a 3.66 ERA, 1.25 WHIP and a 65/14 K/BB ratio (66 1/3 innings) into Thursday’s matchup against the Orioles. Rotoworld Yesterday, 2:55 pm
  • Expected to start Sunday
Medina (knee) is slated to return from the 60-day injured list to start Sunday's series finale with Atlanta, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Medina has missed the entirety of the 2024 campaign to this point while recovering from a Grade 2 MCL sprain in his right knee that he suffered March 4 at spring training. The 25-year-old made three starts during his minor-league rehab assignment, with the last two coming at Triple-A Las Vegas. In his final outing at Triple-A on Tuesday, Medina tossed 3.2 innings (72 pitches) while striking out six and giving up two earned runs on four hits and two walks. While he shouldn't face many limitations from a workload standpoint in his 2024 MLB debut, Medina isn't a recommended streaming option in a road game against one of baseball's top teams.
