    • Reds call up Graham Ashcraft to start Wednesday
Reds recalled RHP Graham Ashcraft from Triple-A Louisville.

Advice: Ashcraft, who had a 3.00 ERA in his two starts for Louisville after being sent down earlier this month, will start against the Pirates today. The Reds weren’t wanting to bring him back quite this soon, but Nick Lodolo’s blister created a need. Ashcraft was struggling before the demotion, having posted a 5.05 ERA overall and a 6.83 ERA in his final six starts. Rotoworld 15 minutes ago

    • Reds send Yosver Zulueta back to Triple-A
Reds optioned RHP Yosver Zulueta to Triple-A Louisville.

Advice: Zulueta performed well in his major league debut last night, allowing one run and striking out four in three innings out of the pen. It’ll help his chances of getting the call next time the Reds need a reliever. Rotoworld 18 minutes ago

    • Sent back to minors
The Reds optioned Zulueta to Triple-A Louisville on Wednesday.

Advice: Zulueta made his major-league debut in Tuesday's 9-5 loss to the Pirates, striking out four and allowing one run over a three-inning relief appearance. He'll head back to Louisville to make space on the roster for Graham Ashcraft, who has been recalled from Louisville to start Wednesday's series finale versus Pittsburgh. • Recalled ahead of start
The Reds recalled Ashcraft from Triple-A Louisville on Wednesday.

Advice: Ashcraft will get the start Wednesday against the Pirates, taking the rotation spot of the injured Nick Lodolo (finger). The right-hander has struggled at the big-league level this season, collecting a 5.05 ERA and 1.46 WHIP in 62.1 innings over 12 starts. He appeared to get back on track in two starts with Louisville, giving up a total of four runs with a 12:2 K:BB over 12 innings. Ashcraft will likely be needed for multiple starts and will try to make a case to stick in the Reds rotation indefinitely. Rotowire.com 30 minutes ago

    • Workload 'going to start dwindling'
White Sox manager Pedro Grifol said Tuesday of Crochet that "we're going to start dwindling his workload down a little bit," the Associated Press reports.

Advice: Crochet already sits at 94.1 innings in 2024 in his first pro season as a starting pitcher. He threw zero innings in 2022 and just 25 frames in 2023 while recovering from Tommy John surgery, and his highest innings total in college at Tennessee was 65. Therefore, his workload being curtailed at some point was inevitable. Grifol didn't divulge any specifics in regards to pitch counts or innings totals for Crochet, indicating he'll be flexible start-to-start based on how efficient the pitcher is. The manager also didn't mention anything about Crochet being shut down completely at some point, although it's certainly possible that will happen. It's not an ideal situation for fantasy managers, but those rostering Crochet will want to keep him in their lineups as long as he's making starts. Rotowire.com 53 minutes ago

    • Serving as opener Wednesday
Holton will serve as the Tigers' opening pitcher in Wednesday's game versus the Phillies, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports.

Advice: With left-handed sluggers Kyle Schwarber and Bryce Harper in the top three of the batting order, the Phillies are targets for southpaw openers. Holton will be followed by Keider Montero, who will be called up from Triple-A Toledo and will be deployed as a bulk reliever. Rotowire.com Today, 6:27 am

    • Buckles against Bucs
Greene (5-3) took the loss Tuesday, surrendering six runs on seven hits and two walks over four innings as the Reds fell 9-5 to the Pirates. He struck out five.

Advice: Aggressive baserunning helped Pittsburgh score three times in the first inning before adding three more in the third, and Cincy was never able to climb out of the hole. The loss was Greene's first since April 22 -- over the 10 starts in between, he'd posted a sharp 2.80 ERA, 1.03 WHIP and 62:26 K:BB through 61 innings. The 24-year-old right-hander will look to regain that form in his next outing, which is scheduled to come on the road this weekend in St. Louis. Rotowire.com Today, 6:24 am
    • Fades late in Tuesday's win
Keller (9-4) picked up the win in Tuesday's 9-5 victory over the Reds, giving up four runs (three runs) on six hits and three walks over 5.2 innings. He struck out six.

Advice: An Oneil Cruz error and a hit by pitch helped load the bases in the third inning, but Keller escaped the jam by striking out Jeimer Candelario and Spencer Steer. The right-hander seemed to run out of gas after that, eventually getting tagged for three runs in the fifth and one more in the sixth as he fell short of his 10th quality start of the season. Keller has still allowed more than three earned runs only once in nine outings since the beginning of May, going 7-1 over that stretch with a 1.85 ERA, 1.05 WHIP and 52:12 K:BB through 58.1 innings. He'll look for win No. 10 on the year in his next trip to the mound, which lines up to come at home next week against the Cardinals. Rotowire.com Today, 6:15 am
    • BP session set for Wednesday
Hendriks (elbow) will throw a bullpen session Wednesday, Jen McCaffrey of The Athletic reports.

Advice: Red Sox pitching coach Andrew Bailey said Hendriks has been throwing "half-mound" sessions, but Wednesday's activity marks the reliever's first session throwing on the top of the mound since undergoing Tommy John elbow surgery last August. "He's doing really well," Bailey said. "Obviously we're following the guidelines of the medical staff and our trainers, and the surgeon, of course. He's been hitting every target possible." If Wednesday's session goes well, a normal progression would have Hendriks throwing two bullpens per week before ramping up to face hitters. Rotowire.com Today, 6:12 am
