• Designated for assignment
The Blue Jays designated Biggio for assignment Friday, Mike Wilner of the Toronto Star reports.

Advice: In order to make room on the active roster for Spencer Horwitz, who was recalled from Triple-A Buffalo on Friday, the Blue Jays will push Biggio off their 40-man. The 29-year-old utility man began the year as an everyday starter, but he began losing work after slashing .200/.323/.291 with nine RBI through 130 plate appearances. Although his .614 OPS on the year represents the lowest mark of his six-year MLB career, his defensive versatility could still make him an attractive option for other organizations. • Blue Jays designate Cavan Biggio for assignment
Blue Jays designated INF-OF Cavan Biggio for assignment,

Advice: Spencer Horwitz is coming up in his place. Biggio saved himself from being non-tendered with a strong finish last season, but he could never get it going this year, batting .200/.323/.291 with two homers in 131 plate appearances. While he has versatility working in his favor, he’s not particularly good at any position, and he’s hit .219/.327/.351 since the beginning of 2021. The Jays will try to trade Biggio, but that might require taking on part of the approx. $2.4 million he’s still owed over the rest of the season. If he clears waivers because of that salary, he’ll likely remain with the organization, since he doesn’t have the service time to reject the assignment and still collect the money. • Rays activate INF Walls from 60-day IL
Rays activated INF Taylor Walls from the 60-day injured list.

Advice: Tampa Bay designated Harold Ramirez for assignment to make room for Walls, who has been on the injured list all season as he recovered from offseason hip surgery. Walls figures to come off the bench for the Rays and see most of his playing time against left-handed pitching. Rotoworld Yesterday, 11:06 am

  • Activated from 60-day IL
The Rays activated Walls (hip) from the 60-day injured list Friday, Tricia Whitaker of Bally Sports Sun reports.

Advice: Walls has been out all season following offseason hip surgery and had his recovery delayed due to inflammation in the hip. However, he recently got back up to speed during a five-game rehab stint with Triple-A Durham, going 8-for-21 at the plate. Walls could take some playing time away from Jose Caballero at shortstop while working in a utility role. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 11:00 am

  • Will serve as 27th man
Baty will be recalled from Triple-A Syracuse to serve as the 27th man during this weekend's series in London versus the Phillies, Mike Puma of the New York Post reports.

Advice: Baty was optioned to Syracuse a week ago following a slow start but has gone 3-for-10 with two home runs in his first two games back in the minors. He will likely operate in a reserve role for the two games in London before being sent back down early next week. Baty also revealed that the plan is for him to get some game reps at second base when he goes back to Syracuse, per Puma. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 6:24 am

  • Serves as DH on rehab assignment
Perdomo started at designated hitter and went 1-for-4 with an RBI for Triple-A Reno on Thursday.

Advice: Perdomo, who played seven innings at shortstop Wednesday, was in the lineup for a second straight day but got replaced by a pinch hitter after eight innings. Perdomo will continue his rehab assignment through the weekend for Reno and could rejoin the Diamondbacks next week. Arizona begins a homestand Tuesday against the Angels. • Smashes three-run homer
De La Cruz went 1-for-5 with a three-run home run Thursday in an 8-4 victory against the Cubs.

Advice: De La Cruz, on the one-year anniversary of his MLB debut, turned a two-run Reds deficit into a one-run lead with a three-run blast in the third frame. The long ball was his second in three contests following a season-long 21-game homer drought. After tallying 13 homers and 35 steals over 98 games as a rookie last season, De La Cruz is nearing those marks with 11 long balls and 32 thefts through 63 contests in 2024. • Lifts fifth homer
Suarez went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Thursday's 4-3 win over the Padres.

Advice: The homer was Suarez's second hit over six games in June, though both knocks have gone for extra bases. The third baseman hasn't hit for average well in the last five years, but his .202 mark this season is poor even by his usual standard. He's added a .592 OPS, five homers, 28 RBI, 24 runs scored and two stolen bases through 62 contests. Rotowire.com Thursday, 10:00 pm
