    • Sharp in first win of 2024
Olson (1-5) picked up the win in Saturday's 2-1 victory over the Blue Jays, allowing just an unearned run on three hits and three walks over 6.1 innings. He struck out four.

Advice: Kerry Carpenter launched a two-run homer in the first inning, and it proved to be all the offense that Olson and the Tigers' bullpen would need. The right-hander generated 30 called or swinging strikes among his 93 pitches, and while the win was his first of the season, the quality start was his fifth in 10 outings. Olson will take a 1.92 ERA, 1.05 WHIP and 47:19 K:BB through 56.1 innings into his next start, which is scheduled to come on the road next weekend in Boston. Rotowire.com Saturday, 1:31 pm

    • Reese Olson earns first win Saturday vs. Blue Jays
Reese Olson allowed one run -- zero earned -- with four strikeouts over 6 1/3 innings in a win over the Blue Jays on Saturday.

Advice: Olson looked outstanding after leaving his previous start early after taking a comebacker to the hip. He worked around a bases-loaded jam in the fifth to keep the Blue Jays scoreless. A walk and an error put two runners on with one out in the seventh before Olson was relieved by Alex Faedo, who allowed one inherited runner to score. The Tigers would hold on to the lead to give Olson his first win of the season despite an excellent 1.92 ERA, 1.05 WHIP, and a 47/19 K/BB ratio across 56 1/3 innings. He’s in line for a start against the Red Sox in Boston on Friday. Rotoworld Saturday, 12:21 pm

    • Corbin Burnes solid for six in downing White Sox
Corbin Burnes allowed three runs over six innings Friday in a no-decision against the White Sox.

Advice: He struck out six and walked two. This season has not seen Burnes at his absolute best, but neither has he faltered at any point; he still hasn’t allowed more than three runs or pitched fewer than five innings in any of his 11 starts. His next turn will come against the Red Sox. It’s the only team he’s completed seven innings against this year, doing so in a 7-1 victory on Apr. 9. Rotoworld Friday, 11:16 pm

    • Yields three runs in no-decision
Burnes allowed three runs on seven hits and two walks over six innings in a no-decision Friday. He struck out six during the Orioles' win over the White Sox.

Advice: Burnes fired four shutout frames before the White Sox finally broke through with a three-run fifth inning. He forced 14 whiffs and has produced double-digit swinging strikes in eight of his 11 starts this season. The 29-year-old righty has allowed three or fewer earned runs in each of those 11 outings, resulting in an impressive 2.60 ERA through 65.2 innings. Burnes will take a 66:17 K:BB into his next outing, which is lined up to come at home against Boston. Rotowire.com Friday, 8:33 pm

    • John Means (forearm) to get second opinion
John Means will get a second opinion on his injured elbow.

Advice: The 31-year-old southpaw landed on the injured list with a left forearm strain on Thursday after exhibiting diminished velocity during Wednesday’s start against the Cardinals. It certainly sounds like he’s going to be looking at an extended absence, but we should have more clarity after he gets another opinion. Rotoworld Friday, 3:20 pm

    • Seeking second opinion
Orioles manager Brandon Hyde said Friday that Means will get a second opinion on his throwing elbow, Andy Kostka of TheBaltimoreBanner.com reports.

Advice: Means threw just three innings in his start Wednesday against the Cardinals, and he did not return to the mound following a rain delay. He landed on the 15-day injured list Thursday due to a left forearm strain, which was the same injury that caused him to start the season on the IL. Seeing that Means is getting a second opinion on the injury, the 31-year-old southpaw could be on the IL beyond the 15-day minimum. Rotowire.com Friday, 3:19 pm

    • Good to start Saturday
Olson (hip) is listed as the Tigers' probable starter for Saturday's game against the Blue Jays, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports.

Advice: The 24-year-old exited his start Monday against the Royals with a bruised hip after being struck by a comebacker, but he's ready for his next turn through the rotation. Olson has enjoyed a nice start to the campaign with a 2.16 ERA over 50 innings, but he's been particularly effective across his past five starts with just three earned runs allowed. • Rejoining rotation
Irvin will re-enter the Orioles' rotation following the injury to John Means (forearm), Matt Weyrich of The Baltimore Sun reports.

Advice: Each of Irvin's last two appearances have come in relief, but he's been terrific in seven starts this season, collecting a 2.90 ERA and 28:8 K:BB over 40.1 innings of work. Means' next turn comes up Monday in Baltimore against the Red Sox, and Irvin would be on regular rest that day after throwing 3.1 relief innings in Wednesday's loss to the Cardinals. • O’s place John Means on IL with forearm strain
Orioles placed LHP John Means on the 15-day injured list with a left forearm strain.

Advice: It’s a sad turn of events for the 31-year-old who seems to be working his way back from arm injuries continuously. He made just four starts this season and left his last one with elbow discomfort. The Orioles have not yet announced the extent of the injury but given that Means has only thrown a combined 31 2/3 innings since 2021, it may be time to make other plans for fantasy leagues. Cole Irvin should move back into the rotation and Jonathan Heasley was called up in a corresponding move. Rotoworld Thursday, 9:22 am
