    • Blows save, earns win
      Fairbanks (2-3) earned the win Thursday, allowing one run on two hits over two innings against the Twins. He struck out one.

      Advice: Fairbanks was not needed to start the ninth due to the Rays holding a four-run lead, but a leadoff homer followed by the next two runners reaching base necessitated the call to Fairbanks. After inducing a couple of quick outs, Jose Miranda tagged him for a two-out game-tying homer that sent the game to extras. Once the Rays regained the lead in the 10th, Fairbanks stayed on to close out his own victory. The blown save was the second of the season for Fairbanks, who ran the gamut during the series with the Twins, suffering the loss on Tuesday followed by the blown save and subsequent win on Thursday.       Rays RHP prospect Shane Baz struck out six over three scoreless innings on Thursday for Triple-A Durham.

      Advice: Baz averaged 96.5 mph on his four-seam fastball, which generated seven swinging strikes in this one, and needed just 70 pitches to navigate three frames.       Reds 3B prospect Noelvi Marte went 0-for-5 with a pair of strikeouts on Thursday for Triple-A Louisville.

      Advice: Marte is batting .194 through eight games at Triple-A Louisville as he continues to knock off some of the rust following a lengthy layoff due to a league-issued 80-game suspension after testing positive for a performance-enhancing substance. Rotoworld Today, 7:40 pm
       
    • Lugo allows two runs in no-decision on Thursday
      Seth Lugo allowed two runs in 6 2/3 innings and got a no-decision in the Royals’ 3-2 victory over the Athletics on Thursday.



      Advice: Lugo gave up six hits, walked three and struck out eight. He allowed a two-run game-tying home run to Zack Gelof in the seventh inning, but it was still another solid effort from Lugo. The 34-year-old right-hander is set to face the Marlins at home next week.

      Fernando Tatis Jr. is in the lineup for Thursday’s game against the Brewers.

      Advice: Tatis got a day off earlier this week to address a lingering quad issue that he’s been playing through for the last few weeks.       CJ Abrams is day-to-day after an MRI this week revealed a Ganglion cyst on his left palm near his wrist.

      Advice: Nationals manager Dave Martinez told reporters Thursday that it isn’t a serious concern. We’re not medical professionals, but a Ganglion cyst is basically a non-cancerous lump that appears along the joints of the wrists or hands. It doesn’t sound like a serious concern moving forward as the issue mighty simply go away on its own, but it’s something Abrams will have to manage going forward.     • Pete Fairbanks (thumb) blows save, gets victory
      Pete Fairbanks (thumb) blew a save while allowing a run against the Twins on Thursday, but worked two innings to get the victory.

      Advice: Fairbanks entered the game with a couple of runners on and Tampa Bay holding a 6-3 cushion. He was able to get the first two outs, but then gave up a game-tying homer to Jose Miranda to blow the save. He was able to get the final three outs after the Rays scored in the 10th, however, so he gets the win. The right-hander missed a couple of days while dealing with a thumb injury, so the positive is he was back on the mound and does at least get a win.     • Day-to-day following MRI on wrist
      Abrams is considered day-to-day after an MRI revealed a ganglion cyst on his left wrist, Spencer Nusbaum of The Washington Post reports.

      Advice: A ganglion cyst is a noncancerous lump which is commonly found on the tendons or joints of the wrists and hands. While the cyst has caused Abrams some discomfort, it's something that will often clear on its own. The shortstop could be back in the lineup this weekend in Colorado. Rotowire.com Today, 1:02 pm

    • Jasson Domínguez out two months with oblique strain
      According to Yankees manager Aaron Boone, Jasson Domínguez will miss up to eight weeks with an oblique strain.

      Advice: We knew an oblique strain would keep Domínguez out for at least a couple weeks, but this is an extensive period of time and one that could threaten his ability to contribute big-league at-bats this season. If Domínguez doesn’t return to minor league action until late August and then gets a couple of weeks to get his timing back at Triple-A, it would be September even before the Yankees can think about promoting him. If all goes well, he could be a candidate for a mid-September call-up, but the Yankees would then be thrusting him into a major role in the middle of a pennant race after missing a major chunk of time. It’s a shame because he was looking great after Tommy John surgery, hitting .356/.404/.609 with six homers and 13 RBIs in 23 games across three levels. Rotoworld Today, 12:05 pm
