    • Records fifth steal in loss
Gelof went 1-for-5 with a stolen base in an extra-innings loss to the Rays on Thursday.

Advice: Gelof snapped an 0-for-18 slump with a single, while his steal was his fifth of the season but first since April 21. Last season's encouraging rookie campaign is increasingly in the rearview mirror for Gelof, who's now sitting on a .176 batting average and .512 OPS across 162 plate appearances. A significant season-over-season increase in strikeout rate (27.3 percent to 34.6 percent) and a notable decrease in line-drive rate (25.5 percent to 16.5 percent) have contributed to a steep drop in his BABIP (.331 to .258). • Edouard Julien is sitting on Thursday
Edouard Julien, Max Kepler, Trevor Larnach, and Alex Kirilloff are not in the lineup for Thursday’s game against the Royals.

Advice: Normally, this would be a signal that the Twins are facing a left-handed starter, but they’re facing Brady Singer. This could have something to do with it being a day game after a night game, but Brady Singer does have reverse splits over his career. Perhaps the Twins think stacking righties against him will give them a better chance to win. However, Julien not being in the lineup is also noteworthy because he has not been performing of late, slashing .186/.278/.200 in 24 games in May with a 36.7 percent strikeout rate. He’s not a player you have to hold in fantasy leagues. Rotoworld Yesterday, 6:58 am

    • Resting in series finale
Julien is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Royals.

Advice: With Thursday's contest being a day game after a night game, manager Rocco Baldelli will give rest to several key regulars. Along with Julien, Alex Kirilloff, Max Kepler and Trevor Larnach will rest as the Twins open up room in the lineup for reserves Kyle Farmer, Carlos Santana, Manuel Margot and Christian Vazquez. • On bench Tuesday
Julien is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Royals.

Advice: As usual, Julien will give way to Kyle Farmer at second base with a left-handed pitcher on the mound. Julien has just three hits in his last 27 at-bats and could start losing work against RHP if his struggles persist. Rotowire.com Tuesday, 12:10 pm

    • Moves down order amid slump
Julien went 0-for-2 in Sunday's loss to the Rangers. He was moved down to eighth in the lineup against a right-handed starter amid a 1-for-25 slump that has lowered his batting average to .199 and his OPS to .674.

Advice: Julien also has just one walk over his last eight games as well as his struggles since the end of April have accelerated. He was hitting just .147 with a .418 OPS over his last 24 games before Sunday. Moving him down in the order from his usual leadoff spot against right-handed pitchers is a sign of his recent troubles. His slump has lasted long enough that he may start to lose playing time and it's not out of the question that he could face a trip to the minors to get him back on track . • Rare multi-hit effort Wednesday
Gelof went 2-for-5 with a game-tying RBI single in an extra-innings loss to the Rockies on Wednesday.

Advice: After knotting the game at 2-2 in the bottom of the ninth with his timely knock, Gelof also drove in Shea Langeliers during the 12th but didn't get credited with an RBI since it was a double-play groundout. Nevertheless, Gelof did extend his on-base streak to four games with his multi-hit effort, his first since April 21. Despite the recent modest success, Gelof's slash line sits at a paltry .192/.260/.308 across 132 plate appearances, with a strikeout rate that's shot up from a rookie figure of 27.3 percent to 34.1 percent partly to blame for his struggles.
