• Carlos Rodon gives up five runs in loss to Red Sox
Carlos Rodon struggled in Saturday night’s loss to the Red Sox, surrendering five runs on seven hits over his five innings of work.

Advice: The 31-year-old southpaw still managed to punch out seven batters on the evening while issuing three free passes. The Red Sox jumped on him in the opening inning, using run-scoring knocks from Tyler O’Neill, Connor Wong and Jaime Westbrook to push three runs across. They added another pair in the second on a two-run double by Rafael Devers. Rodon generated 18 swings and misses on 109 pitches on the night — eight of those on his fastball — while posting a CSW of 28 percent. He’ll look to bounce back as he totes an impressive 3.28 ERA, 1.11 WHIP and an 81/23 K/B ratio (85 innings) into a tough matchup against the Braves on Saturday. Rotoworld Saturday, 7:32 pm

  • Joe Musgrove (elbow) could resume throwing soon
Padres’ manager Mike Shildt said Friday that Joe Musgrove (elbow) could resume throwing soon.

Advice: The 31-year-old hurler is dealing with elbow inflammation and soreness in his right triceps — and was given a cortisone shot and PRP injection after an MRI revealed that a bone spur was causing his issues. Shildt didn’t give any specifics regarding a specific timeline for Musgrove’s return, but if he starts throwing soon that’s at least an encouraging sign. He shouldn’t be expected back until after the All-Star break. Rotoworld Saturday, 5:25 pm

  • Could resume throwing soon
Padres manager Mike Shildt said Friday that Musgrove (elbow) is getting closer to picking up a ball and starting a throwing program, per MLB.com.

Advice: Musgrove was diagnosed with a bone spur in his right elbow in early June and consequently received PRP and cortisone injections. While Shildt said Friday that the veteran pitcher could resume throwing soon, he didn't give specifics on a timeline. Given that Musgrove dealt with a similar injury in May, the Padres are unlikely to rush him back, and he's probably at least a month away from a return. Rotowire.com Saturday, 5:16 pm

  • Sidelined again with UCL sprain
The Orioles placed Bradish (elbow) on the 15-day injured list Saturday with a right UCL sprain.

Advice: Bradish pitched five frames in Friday's 5-3 loss to the Phillies before leaving the contest with right elbow discomfort. Upon further examination, the 27-year-old was diagnosed with a UCL sprain, the same injury that kept him out for the first month of the season. Bradish avoided surgery the first time around, but a procedure could become a more distinct possibility if the rest and rehab isn't deemed a viable treatment plan after his latest setback. Even if Bradish receives a more favorable prognosis in the coming days, fantasy managers should still prepare for Bradish to miss more than the minimum 15 days. Left-hander Nick Vespi was called up from Triple-A Norfolk on Saturday to replace Bradish on Baltimore's major-league roster in a corresponding move. Rotowire.com Saturday, 10:21 am

  • O’s put Kyle Bradish on IL with right UCL sprain
Orioles placed RHP Kyle Bradish on the 15-day injured list with a right UCL sprain.

Advice: Not good. Bradish lands on the injured list after being removed from Friday’s start against the Phillies with right elbow discomfort. The primary concern here for fantasy managers is that Bradish missed time earlier this year due to a UCL sprain in his right elbow, which caused him to miss all of spring training and the first month of the season. There should be an update on his status at some point in the near future, but the 27-year-old righty could be facing a lengthy absence. It’s a significant hit to Baltimore’s starting rotation and a massive loss for fantasy managers as well. Rotoworld Saturday, 10:19 am

  • Could rejoin rotation next week
The Yankees are expected to decide this weekend whether Cole (elbow) will need another rehab start or if he's ready to return from the 60-day injured list, Greg Joyce of the New York Post reports.

Advice: Cole was dominant in his third rehab start with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Friday, pitching 4.1 innings during which he allowed an unearned run on two hits and no walks while striking out 10 batters. The reigning AL Cy Young Award winner tossed 70 pitches in the outing, so he'd likely have his workload managed to some extent if his next trip to the mound is with the big club. If it's determined that Cole needs another rehab start, it would be for ramp-up reasons rather than due to effectiveness -- he's dominated minor leaguers in his three appearances, posting a 19:0 K:BB while allowing just one earned run over 12.1 frames. Should Cole next move back into the Yankees' rotation, his season debut could come during the team's three-game set versus Baltimore next week. Rotowire.com Saturday, 8:23 am

  • Collects seventh win
Allen (7-3) picked up the win Friday, allowing one run on three hits and three walks over five-plus innings in a 3-1 victory over the Blue Jays. He struck out three.

Advice: The lefty wasn't exactly efficient, tossing 47 of 84 pitches for strikes, but he blanked Toronto for five frames before back-to-back hits to lead off the sixth brought home Toronto's only run and chased Allen from the game. The 25-year-old has given up three runs or fewer in five of his last six outings, posting a 3.86 ERA, 1.42 WHIP and 24:12 K:BB in 30.1 innings over that stretch. He'll look to build on this performance in his next start, which lines up to come at home next week against the Mariners. Rotowire.com Saturday, 7:17 am

  • Kyle Bradish exits Friday with elbow discomfort
Kyle Bradish was removed from Friday’s start against the Phillies with right elbow discomfort.

Advice: Not good. Bradish is slated to undergo further testing after lasting just five innings on Friday night before exiting after just 74 pitches. He was spotted shaking his elbow throughout the contest on a night where his velocity was up significantly from previous levels. The biggest concern here for fantasy managers is that the 27-year-old righty is roughly six weeks removed from returning from a UCL sprain in his right elbow that caused him to miss all of spring training and the opening month of the season. There should be an update on his status in the coming days and it seems highly likely that he could wind up requiring another trip to the injured list. We’ll have updates on the developing situation as they unfold. Rotoworld Saturday, 5:58 am

  • Kyle Bradish solid across five innings
Kyle Bradish allowed two earned runs via solo homers in five innings on Friday in a loss to the Phillies. He struck out four and walked one.

Advice: Bradish hadn’t given up a home run all season before Friday, but the Phillies put two in the seats for their only two runs. Still, Bradish was mostly in control with a heavy diet of sinkers to supplement his excellent slider and curveball. He left the game with 74 pitches one inning shy of qualifying for a quality start.
