    Francis allowed four runs on five hits and no walks with two strikeouts across 3.1 innings against the Orioles on Tuesday.

    Advice: Francis was activated from the 15-day IL leading up to the contest and was expected to follow Trevor Richards in bulk relief. Instead, he was the third Blue Jay pitcher to take the mound, taking over for Genesis Cabrera midway through the third inning. Frances was tormented by Ryan Mountcastle, surrendering a three-run home run and a two-run home run to the Orioles' first baseman. While Toronto is hoping for Francis to take the fifth rotation spot vacated by Alek Manoah (elbow), Francis didn't do much to prove that he's worthy of the role Tuesday.     Dane Dunning allowed three earned runs over five innings while striking out four in Tuesday’s loss to the Tigers.

    Advice: Dunning allowed just five baserunners on the evening, but home runs to Zach McKinstry and Riley Green did enough damage to saddle him with the loss. Dunning didn’t get any run support in this one, as Tigers starter Jack Flaherty allowed just two hits in five innings of work to keep the Tigers in front throughout the evening.     Miller (elbow) tossed 1.1 scoreless innings of relief with three strikeouts in Tuesday's 3-1 win over the Rangers.

    Advice: Miller was reinstated from the injured list before the game after being sidelined since May 13 due to right ulnar nerve inflammation, and the Tigers wasted no time getting him back into the thick of things. The righty didn't seem to skip a beat as he retired his four batters on just 17 pitches to secure his fourth hold of the season.   • Kutter Crawford has another rough start in loss
    Kutter Crawford allowed six runs (four earned) on five hits in six innings in a loss to the Braves on Tuesday.

    Advice: Crawford has now allowed 15 earned runs in 16 1/3 innings in his last three starts. However, those starts were also against the Brewers, Braves, and Orioles. He was never going to carry over the 1.75 ERA he had over his first eight starts, but he’s also not pitching as poorly of late as those earned runs totals would indicate. He induced 12 whiffs on 51 swings for a 24 percent whiff rate on the day and lines up for a much better start against the White Sox this weekend.     Crawford (2-5) took the loss Tuesday against Atlanta, allowing six runs (four earned) on five hits and two walks across six innings. He struck out five.

    Advice: The right-hander surrendered three extra-base hits Tuesday, which resulted in five of the six runs scored by Atlanta while Crawford was on the mound. Ozzie Albies and Jared Kelenic came around to score after hitting doubles before Albies went yard on a three-run blast in the sixth inning. Tuesday's start was the latest in a rough patch for the 28-year-old, who's allowed four or more earned runs in four of his last five showings. During that span, Crawford is 0-4 with a 6.43 ERA across 28.0 innings. However, a road start against the White Sox on Sunday could be exactly what he needs to get back on track.   • Pete Fairbanks earns save in win over Marlins
    Pete Fairbanks put out a bases-loaded jam to secure a save in a 9-5 win over the Marlins on Tuesday.

    Advice: Phil Maton started the ninth inning with the Rays up by four runs, but he allowed three straight hits, so the Rays called on Fairbanks to bail them out. The right-hander got two strikeouts and then a groundout to end the game and earn his seventh save of the season.     Advice: The Red Sox had attempted to place Martin on the injured list Tuesday, but MLB was unable to process the transaction before the beginning of Boston's game versus Atlanta.   • Ryan Pepiot has quality start in win
    Ryan Pepiot allowed three runs on six hits in six innings in a win over the Marlins on Tuesday.

    Advice: Pepiot struck out eight and walked none and now has 15 strikeouts over 11 2/3 innings over his last two starts. The 26-year-old earned 13 whiffs on his four-seam fastball and 17 whiffs overall on 52 swings for a 33 percent whiff rate and 29 percent CSW. His first season in Tampa Bay has been a success thanks in part to better fastball usage up in the zone. He’ll carry a 3.96 ERA into a tough start against the Orioles next week.
