    Gerrit Cole (elbow) faced hitters on Tuesday in a 22-pitch live batting practice session.

    Advice: Cole told reporters afterwards that he came out of facing hitters for the first time since landing on the injured list back in spring training without any issues. The 33-year-old fantasy ace added that he wouldn’t rule out a potential return at some point next month.   • Could return in June
    Cole (elbow) faced live hitters Tuesday and will throw another live session this weekend, Gary Phillips of the New York Daily News reports.

    Advice: Cole faced hitters for the first time since being shut down with elbow inflammation. He threw about 20 pitches in what's expected to be the first of two or three total live sessions. Cole will be eligible to return from the 60-day injured list before the end of May, but he'll require a multi-start rehab assignment and is still at least a few weeks away from making his season debut, likely at some point in June.   • Padres activate Joe Musgrove for start vs. Reds
    Padres activated RHP Joe Musgrove from the 15-day injured list.

    Advice: Musgrove returns from a two-week stint on the injured list due to triceps tendinitis to take the ball for Tuesday’s series opener against the Reds.     Advice: Musgrove has been sidelined since May 1 with elbow inflammation in his throwing arm and was initially expected to pitch Sunday, though those plans were derailed after Saturday's contest was postponed. Considering he didn't go on a rehab assignment, it's unclear if Musgrove is fully stretched out; however, he should be close to full strength against Cincinnati.     Advice: Crawford struck out swinging in his pinch-hit appearance and subsequently flied out to center to close out the ninth. The veteran shortstop was logging his first game action since April 23, and given his in-game appearance and ability to play defense Monday, he's a likely candidate to return to the starting nine Tuesday. The catcher is up to four long balls, 22 RBI, 18 runs scored, six doubles and a triple while slashing .264/.321/.403 over 157 plate appearances.
