    • Happy with mechanical tweaks
      Gausman tinkered with his mechanics ahead of Friday's start against the Mariners, in which he tied his season high with 10 strikeouts, Keegan Matheson of MLB.com reports. "I definitely had a bit of a different delivery today, and that was by design," Gausman said after the outing. "It's something we're trying to get back to what I was doing in 2021. I think it will allow me to be around the zone a little bit more."

      Advice: The veteran right-hander saw his fastball average 1.4 mph more than it had this season coming into the start, while the movement on his splitter was more effective as a result of the tweaks. "I was getting way too much horizontal movement on my splitter and not enough vertical movement," Gausman said. "I haven't looked at the metrics, but I could tell that it was carrying the zone. To me, that shows the vertical was there on my splitter. Guys are going to swing more at it when it looks like it's going to be in the zone longer." Gausman, who missed much of spring training due to shoulder fatigue, has had an inconsistent beginning to the season and will carry a 4.64 ERA, 1.34 WHIP and 24.0 percent strikeout rate into his next start -- numbers all well below the standard he established during his career resurgence in San Francisco in 2020-21.       Gore came away with a no-decision in Saturday's 14-6 win over St. Louis, coughing up five runs on six hits and five walks over 3.1 innings. He struck out five.

      Advice: The southpaw has shown improved control and command overall in 2024, but Gore couldn't find the plate Saturday and needed 90 pitches (52 strikes) to record 10 outs, failing to take advantage of a huge offensive outburst by the Nats. He's failed to complete six innings in four straight outings and in six of seven since the beginning of June, stumbling to a 5.35 ERA, 1.70 WHIP and 40:17 K:BB through 35.1 innings over that stretch.       Advice: The right-hander was still the pitcher of record when the Rays took the lead in the top of the seventh, putting Bradley in line for his fourth win of the year, but Kevin Kelly blew the save in the bottom of the frame. The quality start was Bradley's third in his last five trips to the mound, a stretch in which he's posted a 1.29 ERA, 1.03 WHIP and 45:13 K:BB through 35 innings.       Ryan (6-5) earned the win against the Astros on Saturday, allowing three runs on five hits and one walk with eight strikeouts over 5.2 innings.

      Advice: Ryan surrendered a run in the third inning and a two-run homer in the fourth while receiving plenty of early run support from his teammates. He generated 15 swinging strikes on 110 pitches and has completed at least five frames in each of his 18 starts this season.       Mackenzie Gore allowed five runs in 3 1/3 innings and got a no-decision in the Nationals’ 14-6 victory over the Cardinals on Saturday.

      Advice: Gore gave up six hits, walked five and struck out five. The Nationals led 9-0 after two innings and Gore still couldn’t complete the necessary five innings to get the win. He’s allowed five runs in two of his last three starts and has a 3.83 ERA on the year. The 25-year-old left-hander is set to face the Mets on the road next week.

      Advice: Bradley gave up five hits, walked two and struck out five. It was another solid outing for Bradley. He left the game with the Rays leading 3-2, but the bullpen couldn’t hold on to get him the win. Bradley hasn’t allowed more than two runs in his last six starts. He has a 3.23 ERA on the season. The 23-year-old right-hander is set to face the Guardians at home next weekend.

      Advice: Ryan pitched two clean frames before a pair of doubles brought a run in to score for Houston in the third. Jon Singleton then hit a two-run homer in the fourth. Ryan worked into the sixth before leaving with the bases loaded and two outs. He struck out eight on the day. The 28-year-old right-hander will take a 3.29 ERA, 0.97 WHIP, and a 118/16 K/BB ratio across 109 1/3 innings into a start against the Giants in San Francisco on Friday.       Advice: Brown had quite the forgettable day on the mound as he surrendered seven runs to the Twins. The seven runs matched the total runs he’s allowed over his last eight starts combined. Three hits, a hit batter, and a sacrifice fly brought two runs in to score in the first. Minnesota brought three more runs in on four hits and a walk in the second. And Brooks Lee would hit a two-run homer in the third. Brown worked three more scoreless innings before his day was done at 105 pitches.
