• Mitch Garver homers and walks in loss to Royals
Mitch Garver homered and walked in a loss Saturday to the Royals.

Advice: Garver kept a ball just inside the left-field foul pole to pick up his seventh homer of the year. The 33-year-old also drew a walk to improve his slash to .180/.292/.348. It’s worth pointing out that he’s registered an OPS of .937 in June, however, and he’s a good bet to hit (much) better over the second half of 2024. Rotoworld 8 minutes ago

  • J.P. Crawford hits leadoff homer in loss to KC
J.P. Crawford homered and drove in two runs in a loss Saturday to the Royals.

Advice: Crawford didn’t waste any time by homering on the first pitch from Alec Marsh to give Seattle a 1-0 lead. The shortstop also drove in a run with a single in the third to again give the Mariners a lead at 3-2. After a horrible start to the year and missing time with an oblique injury, Crawford is looking more like the breakout hitter of 2023 than his .220/.306/.377 slash might suggest. • Adam Frazier doubles and homers in win
Adam Frazier doubled and homered while helping the Royals to an 8-4 win over the Mariners on Saturday.

Advice: Frazier hit just his second homer of the year when he took Luis Castillo deep in the second inning. His double also came off Castillo and he came around to score on an RBI single off the bat of Nick Loftin. A nice day for Frazier, but there haven’t been many of them as seen in a slash of .227/.322/.320. Rotoworld 8 minutes ago

  • Luis Castillo struggles in loss to Royals
Luis Castillo gave up five runs over five innings while allowing four strikeouts against the Royals on Saturday in a loss.

Advice: Castillo allowed six hits and issued a walk while striking out four. It was easily his worst start since April, as the 31-year-old had gone 10 straight starts while allowing no more than three runs, and only one of those outings saw him give up more than two. It happens. Castillo still has a healthy 3.35 ERA on the season over 14 efforts, and he gets to face the lowly White Sox next week. Rotoworld 8 minutes ago

  • Marsh allows four runs, strikes out eight vs. M’s
Alec Marsh gave up four runs in five-plus innings while striking out eight Saturday against the Mariners while being credited with a win.

Advice: Marsh, 26, gave up seven hits without issuing a walk. The first pitch he threw was hit over the fence by J.P. Crawford, but he settled down nicely over the next few innings while taking advantage of Seattle’s swing-and-miss issues. He did struggle in the fifth before being pulled, but the stuff was better than this line suggests. Marsh has streaming appeal, but that appeal doesn’t apply to a scheduled start next week against the Yankees. Rotoworld 8 minutes ago

  • One more sim game before assignment
Kershaw will throw a three-inning simulated game next week then start a rehab assignment, Bill Plunkett of The Orange County Register reports Saturday.

Advice: Kershaw completed a two-inning sim game Friday -- his second simulated game of June -- and will throw another one next week before being sent off to a rehab assignment. The veteran lefty touched 90 mph Friday and is ahead of schedule in his recovery from a shoulder surgery in November. Still, Kershaw will likely require a handful of rehab starts before rejoining the big-league roster, making a July return feasible. Rotowire.com 14 minutes ago

  • Resting Saturday
Campusano isn't in the Padres' lineup Saturday versus Arizona.

Advice: The Padres will give Campusano a day off following his three-hit performance Friday, during which he drove in two runs and scored another en route to a win. Kyle Higashioka will take over behind the dish and bat ninth. Rotowire.com 25 minutes ago
  • Manny Machado (hip) remains out of Padres lineup
Manny Machado (hip) was held out of the Padres’ starting lineup for the third consecutive game on Saturday.

Advice: Unlike the previous two days though, Machado did participate in a full pregame workout with the team, indicating that his return is imminent. He should once again be available off the bench if needed on Saturday. Donovan Solano will start in his place at third base and bat fifth for the Brewers against Ryne Nelson and the Diamondbacks on Saturday evening in Arizona. Rotoworld 26 minutes ago

  • Colt Keith exits Saturday with left knee discomfort
The Tigers announced that Colt Keith was pulled from Saturday’s game against the Brewers due to left knee discomfort.

Advice: The rookie second baseman collided with outfielder Akil Baddoo while both were chasing a pop up into shallow right field. It sounds like he was fortunate to have avoided any serious injury, but he may end up needing a day or two before he’s ready to return to the Tigers’ lineup. Rotoworld 29 minutes ago
