      Whitlock (elbow) underwent an internal bracing procedure Thursday and will not pitch again in 2024, Julian McWilliams of The Boston Globe reports.

      Advice: Whitlock avoided Tommy John reconstruction surgery and instead had an internal bracing procedure on his right elbow UCL. The surgery was performed by Dr. Jeffrey Dugas at the Andrews Sports Medicine & Orthopedics Center in Birmingham, Ala. The right-hander is expected to make a full recovery, which could take between 10 and 12 months. A return at some point during the 2025 season is expected. Whitlock appears optimistic that he'll avoid another Tommy John surgery and will be able to make a full recovery ahead of the 2025 season, but official word on his type of surgery won't be known until after he meets with Dr. Dugas on Wednesday.       Doval gave up a run on two hits and a walk while striking out one in the ninth inning Friday to record his ninth save of the season in an 8-7 win over the Mets.

      Advice: The Giants scored six of their runs in the eighth and ninth innings to create the save chance, but Doval very nearly squandered it following a leadoff double by pinch hitter DJ Stewart and a fielding error by Marco Luciano.       Camilo Doval worked around two hits and an error to earn the save on Friday over the Mets. He struck out one.

      Advice: This was a treacherous ninth inning for Doval. The Mets rallied on him and then Marco Luciano butchered a tailor-made double play that would’ve ended the game. Then he intentionally walked Brandon Nimmo before punching out J.D. Martinez with a runner on third and one out. Then Matt Chapman made a herculean bare-handed play to end the game.
