• Sean Manaea solid, but unravels in sixth inning
Sean Manaea allowed three earned runs in 5 2/3 innings on Wednesday against the Rangers. He struck out six and walked three in a loss.

Advice: Manaea had a no-hitter going in this one through five innings and retired 14 straight after a shaky first inning. Yet, his inability to get through a lineup for the third time did him and the Mets in. Hopefully you don’t play in a quality start league if you roster Manaea because this is now 11 of 14 starts where he failed to complete six innings. Rotoworld Yesterday, 7:49 pm

  • Hunter Brown holds White Sox to one run in win
Hunter Brown held the White Sox to one run with six strikeouts over six innings to earn the win on Wednesday.

Advice: Brown has been fantastic over his last several starts. The only run he allowed Wednesday came on a solo homer by Andrew Benintendi in the fourth inning. It was the only run he’s allowed over his last three outings. Brown scattered six other hits while striking out six batters to zero walks. The 25-year-old right-hander will take a 4.72 ERA, 1.41 WHIP, and an 82/29 K/BB ratio across 74 1/3 innings into a start against the Rockies in Houston on Tuesday. Rotoworld Yesterday, 7:42 pm
  • Garrett Crochet strikes out eight in loss to Astros
Garrett Crochet allowed three runs with eight strikeouts across six innings in a loss to the Astros on Wednesday.

Advice: Crochet came into this one on a roll, not allowing more than two runs over each of his last nine starts. The Astros got to him for three on Wednesday, starting with three hits and a groundout to bring a run across in the third inning. A walk and two hits brought another run in to score in the fourth. After a scoreless fifth, Crochet allowed one more run in on a double and a base hit in the sixth. He still generated 19 whiffs to strike out eight batters. The 24-year-old left-hander will take a 3.25 ERA, 0.95 WHIP, and a 124/20 K/BB ratio across 88 2/3 innings into a start against the Dodgers in Chicago on Monday. Rotoworld Yesterday, 7:41 pm

  • Clayton Kershaw goes three in first rehab start
Clayton Kershaw (shoulder) went three innings in his first minor league rehab start at High-A Rancho Cucamonga on Wednesday night.

Advice: The 36-year-old southpaw threw 36 pitches on the night — 26 of them for strikes — while hitting 90 mph on his fastball. Kershaw surrendered one run on two hits and a walk while punching out five in the ballgame. He’ll continue to work every fifth day or so in the minor leagues to build up his stamina with a goal of rejoining the Dodgers’ rotation at some point around the All-Star break. • Jakob Junis set to join Brewers over weekend
Jakob Junis (shoulder, head) will join the Brewers in San Diego for their weekend series against the Padres.

Advice: It has yet to be determined whether Junis will work as a starter or as a reliever, but he’s finally ready to rejoin the team after missing more than two months with a right shoulder impingement and a head injury that he suffered when he was struck by a batted ball during batting practice. Junis has made one start for the Brewers this season, posting a 2.25 ERA and 1.00 WHIP while striking out four batters over his four innings of work. Rotoworld Yesterday, 6:53 pm

  • Patrick Corbin strikes out seven in no-decision
Patrick Corbin pitched well in a no-decision against the Diamondbacks on Wednesday, racking up seven strikeouts over five innings of one-run baseball.

Advice: The 34-year-old southpaw scattered just three hits and three walks on the afternoon. The lone tally against him came as Corbin issued a one-out walk to Gabriel Moreno with the bases loaded in the third inning. He battled back though to strike out Blaze Alexander and then got Geraldo Perdomo to pop out to end the threat. Unfortunately, the Nationals didn’t take the lead until the sixth inning, which cost him any shot at a victory here. Corbin got 11 swings and misses on 90 pitches in the game, posting a solid CSW of 30 percent. He’ll try to further improve upon his 5.60 ERA and 1.60 WHIP when he takes the hill against the Padres on Monday in San Diego. Rotoworld Yesterday, 3:33 pm
  • Brandon Pfaadt logs quality start in loss to Nats
Brandon Pfaadt logged a quality start in Wednesday afternoon’s loss to the Nationals, giving up three runs on five hits across his 6 1/3 innings of work.

Advice: The 25-year-old right-hander astonishingly did not record a strikeout in the contest while issuing four free passes. Still, he managed to keep the Nats off the board completely until Jesse Winker’s go-ahead two-run shot in the sixth inning. He then exited with two men on and one out in the seventh inning, and one of those runners ultimately came around to score as well. Pfaadt didn’t get a single swing and miss on any of his 77 pitches in the contest, registering an underwhelming CSW of only 23 percent. He’ll carry a 4.37 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and an 84/22 K/BB ratio (90 2/3 innings) into Tuesday’s matchup against the Twins. Rotoworld Yesterday, 3:27 pm
  • Matthew Liberatore allows two runs in spot start
Matthew Liberatore gave up two runs over 3 2/3 innings on Wednesday in a spot start against the Marlins.

Advice: Liberatore drew the starting assignment for Wednesday’s series finale at loanDepot park after Kyle Gibson was scratched a couple hours prior to first pitch due to back tightness and turned in his longest outing of the season. He gave up a pair of solo homers in the opening frame, but managed to keep Miami scoreless into the fourth inning before handing things over to the rest of the Cardinals’ bullpen. He struck out one and also issued one walk. There’s a chance he gets a couple additional starts moving forward, but has seemingly settled in nicely as a throwback swingman for St. Louis. It’s a disappointing outcome given his prospect pedigree, but he’s done a nice job gobbling up innings this season at the highest level. Rotoworld Yesterday, 12:26 pm
  • Getting spot start Wednesday
Liberatore will start Wednesday's game in Miami in place of the injured Kyle Gibson (back), Lynn Worthy of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.

Advice: Gibson was a late scratch, forcing the Cardinals to turn to Liberatore, who threw 12 pitches and allowed one run over two-thirds of an inning in a relief appearance during Tuesday's loss to the Marlins. Liberatore has made three starts for St. Louis this season, but his last one came a month ago. He hasn't thrown more than 23 pitches in an appearance since then and will be going on zero days' rest Wednesday, so he'll presumably be in store for an abbreviated outing.
