      Betts went 1-for-4 with a solo home run, a walk and two total runs scored in Friday's 7-3 win over the Reds.

      Advice: Betts' last two homers have been of the leadoff variety, and they're his only two long balls in May. He's hitting .283 this month, though that's dropped his season-long average to a still-stunning .341 through 47 contests. Betts has added eight homers, 29 RBI, 40 runs scored, eight stolen bases, 11 doubles and three triples over 218 plate appearances while serving as the everyday leadoff hitter.     • Chris Bassitt allows three earned runs in loss
      Chris Bassitt pitched 5 ⅔ innings and allowed three earned runs on Friday in a loss to the Rays. He struck out five and walked three.

      Advice: Bassitt just can’t seem to get on track this season. He unraveled in the sixth inning, the third time through the Rays’ order, with Richie Palacios’ two-run homer chasing him.     • Brandon Marsh delivers RBI double in win over Nats
      Brandon Marsh walked and delivered an RBI double on Friday night, helping to lead the Phillies to a 4-2 victory over the visiting Nationals.

      Advice: Marsh drew a walk off of Jake Irvin to lead off the second inning and ultimately came around to score on a wild pitch. He then smacked a run-scoring double off of Irvin in the third inning that extended the Phillies’ advantage to 4-1.     • Extends throwing distance
      Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo said Rodriguez (shoulder) has extended his throwing program out to 60 feet, Jesse Friedman of GoPHNX.com reports.

      Advice: Rodriguez had to pause his throwing program in early April due to discomfort in his left shoulder, but the fact that he's extended his throwing distance is an encouraging sign.       Diamondbacks’ skipper Torey Lovullo told reporters on Friday that Eduardo Rodriguez is now throwing at a distance of 60 feet.

      Advice: He has yet to throw off of a mound, but the fact that he has been playing catch and gradually increasing his distance is at least an encouraging sign. He’s going to require a long and slow build up — and several minor league rehab starts — before he’s ready to make his Diamondbacks’ debut.     • Undergoing season-ending surgery
      Lee is set to undergo season-ending surgery in the next few weeks for a torn labrum in his left shoulder, Shayna Rubin of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

      Advice: Lee sustained the injury in the top of the first inning of Sunday's game against the Reds, when he crashed into the outfield wall while attempting to make a catch. He was placed on the 10-day IL with what was initially diagnosed as a dislocated left shoulder, but an MRI on Tuesday revealed further structural damage. Lee received multiple opinions on the injury, and season-ending surgery has ultimately been decided on for the 25-year-old outfielder. Lee signed a six-year, $113 million with the Giants in December of 2023 after seven seasons in the Korea Baseball Organization, and he will end his first season in the majors slashing .262/.310/.331 with four doubles, two home runs and eight RBI over 158 plate appearances.       Jung Hoo Lee will undergo season-ending surgery to repair a torn labrum in his left shoulder.

      Advice: It had been anticipated that Lee would be sidelined for most — if not all — of the season after crashing into the center-field wall at Oracle Park over the weekend, and now it’s official. The 25-year-old finishes his first season stateside hitting .262/.310/.331 with a pair of homers, 15 runs scored, eight RBI and two stolen bases in 37 games.       Justin Turner returned to the Blue Jays’ starting lineup for Friday night’s battle against the Rays.

      Eovaldi (groin) will throw a bullpen session Friday, Evan Grant of The Dallas Morning News reports.

      Advice: Friday will mark the first time Eovaldi has thrown off a mound since being diagnosed with a right groin strain May 3. He's eligible to return from the IL on Saturday, but considering the right-hander is just now resuming mound work, he may still be a week or two from returning to Texas' rotation.
