• Swats two homers
Flores went 2-for-5 with two solo home runs in Friday's win over Texas.

Advice: Flores opened the game's scoring with a solo blast in the second inning before going deep again in the fourth. He's knocked three home runs while driving in seven runs over his last two games. Before that, he was stuck in a 21-game homerless drought, during which he produced a .490 OPS. Flores is now slashing .224/.298/.353 with four home runs and 21 RBI through 52 appearances. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 7:59 pm
  • Patrick Wisdom goes hitless as leadoff man
Patrick Wisdom went 0-for-4 with three strikeouts as the Cubs’ leadoff man Friday against the Reds.

Advice: Wisdom had never before led off a game until this season. The Cubs have tried it three times versus southpaws and watched him go 2-for-12 with seven strikeouts and no runs scored. He’s been rather productive the rest of the time, but he hasn’t been able to earn many starts against righties. Rotoworld Yesterday, 6:43 pm

  • Joe hits seventh home run Friday
Connor Joe went 1-for-4 with a solo home run against the Twins on Friday.

Advice: The home run was Joe’s seventh of the year. He’s up to .270 with a .792 OPS on the season. While he’s seen regular playing time this year, he’s certainly proven to be better against left-handed pitching once again. Joe has a .288/.356/.500 line in 90 plate appearances against southpaws this season. Rotoworld Yesterday, 6:20 pm

  • Designated for assignment
The Blue Jays designated Biggio for assignment Friday, Mike Wilner of the Toronto Star reports.

Advice: In order to make room on the active roster for Spencer Horwitz, who was recalled from Triple-A Buffalo on Friday, the Blue Jays will push Biggio off their 40-man. The 29-year-old utility man began the year as an everyday starter, but he began losing work after slashing .200/.323/.291 with nine RBI through 130 plate appearances. Although his .614 OPS on the year represents the lowest mark of his six-year MLB career, his defensive versatility could still make him an attractive option for other organizations. • Blue Jays recall Spencer Horwitz from Triple-A
Blue Jays recalled 1B Spencer Horwitz from Triple-A Buffalo.

Advice: Horwitz was great at Buffalo, batting .335/.456/.514, but the Jays hadn’t called him up because it didn’t seem like he’d be able to coexist with fellow left-handed hitter Daniel Vogelbach. They’ll give it a try now, in part because they’ve grown at least somewhat comfortable with the idea of using Vladimir Guerrero Jr. at third base. Horwitz will likely prove to be one of the team’s better hitters, but as a platoon guy with no speed, his fantasy value should be limited to deep formats. Rotoworld Yesterday, 3:39 pm
  • Recalled by Toronto
The Blue Jays recalled Horwitz from Triple-A Buffalo on Friday.

Advice: Since May 1, Horwitz is slashing .336/.435/.552 with three home runs, 23 RBI and 19 walks over 125 at-bats in Triple-A. He's played mostly at second base as of late, and the 26-year old has the versatility to fill in at first base or the outfield. Toronto designated Cavan Biggio in a corresponding move. • Blue Jays designate Cavan Biggio for assignment
Blue Jays designated INF-OF Cavan Biggio for assignment,

Advice: Spencer Horwitz is coming up in his place. Biggio saved himself from being non-tendered with a strong finish last season, but he could never get it going this year, batting .200/.323/.291 with two homers in 131 plate appearances. While he has versatility working in his favor, he’s not particularly good at any position, and he’s hit .219/.327/.351 since the beginning of 2021. The Jays will try to trade Biggio, but that might require taking on part of the approx. $2.4 million he’s still owed over the rest of the season. If he clears waivers because of that salary, he’ll likely remain with the organization, since he doesn’t have the service time to reject the assignment and still collect the money. • Hitting and throwing
Wade (hamstring) has begun hitting and throwing programs at the Giants' complex in Arizona, Shayna Rubin of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Advice: Wade still has plenty of boxes to check off before he can start playing in rehab games, but resuming baseball activity is certainly a step in the right direction. The 30-year-old was diagnosed with a Grade 2 hamstring strain in late May and still projects to be sidelined until at least the end of June. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 3:12 pm

  • Sitting again Friday
Davis is not in the starting lineup for Friday's game against Toronto.

Advice: The righty-hitting Davis will sit for a second straight game as the Blue Jays send right-hander Chris Bassitt to the mound Friday. Over his last 15 games, Davis has slashed .250/.298/.386 with two home runs and three RBI over 44 at-bats. Tyler Soderstrom will start at first base and bat seventh for the series opener.
