    • Running bases
Lewis (quadriceps) ran the bases Monday, Betsy Helfand of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.

Advice: After starting with some light running last week, Lewis was able to run the bases for the first time Monday as he continues to rehab from a right quad strain. It's expected that Lewis will need a rehab assignment before returning, which could push his timetable for return into early June. Rotowire.com 21 minutes ago

    • Royce Lewis (quad) making progress in recovery
Royce Lewis (quad) progressed to running the bases on Monday.

Advice: Lewis will be re-evaluated later this week to determine where he’s at in his rehabilitation process from a severe right quad strain that he suffered back on Opening Day. The 24-year-old is getting close to starting a minor league rehab assignment and could return at some point next month, barring any setbacks. Rotoworld 29 minutes ago

    • Missing from Tuesday's lineup
Caballero is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Red Sox.

Advice: Caballero will get a day off Tuesday, giving way to Amed Rosario at the shortstop position. Caballero owns a .257/.315/.365 slash line across 164 plate appearances. Rotowire.com Today, 12:00 pm

    • Spencer Steer (ankle) remains out Tuesday vs. SD
Spencer Steer (ankle) is not in the starting lineup for Tuesday’s game against the Padres.

Advice: Steer will miss back-to-back games while dealing with his ankle injury. The 26-year-old will sit with Santiago Espinal at third and Jeimer Candelario again handling duties at first base. Rotoworld Today, 11:40 am

    • Out again Tuesday
Steer (ankle) remains out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Padres.

Advice: Steer was held out of Sunday's game with an ankle injury and remains out of action after Monday's off day. The good news is Steer said Tuesday that he's feeling better and expects to be available off the bench, just as he was Sunday when he served in a pinch-hit capacity, per Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer. • Picks up steal Monday
Goldschmidt went 0-for-4 with a walk, a stolen base and a run scored in Monday's 6-3 win over the Orioles.

Advice: Goldschmidt's hitting streak came to an end at eight games, but he was still able to provide a contribution in his lone trip on base Monday. The first baseman's streak has helped to get him out of deep slump, though he's still hitting just .209 on the season. He's added a meager .592 OPS with four home runs, 16 RBI, 23 runs scored and three steals over 198 plate appearances. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 10:04 pm
    • Collects sixth win
Gray (6-2) allowed three runs (one earned) on three hits and two walks while striking out six over 5.2 innings to earn the win Monday over the Orioles.

Advice: Gray gave up a three-run blast to Gunnar Henderson in the sixth inning, but the Cardinals were able to maintain their lead after that. The long ball has become a problem for the veteran right-hander -- he's surrendered five homers while giving up 14 runs (12 earned) over his last 16.2 innings. He's still managed to win two of his three starts in that span. Gray is at a 2.87 ERA, 1.04 WHIP and 59:10 K:BB through 47 innings across eight starts this season. He allowed all of eight homers in 32 starts last year, so it's worth keeping an eye on whether Gray can keep the ball down better moving forward. He's projected to make his next start at home versus the Cubs. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 9:53 pm
    • Gray appears to ask out of game Monday
Sonny Gray allowed one earned run, struck out six in 5 2/3 innings, picked up the win and appeared to ask Cardinals manager Oli Marmol to remove him from the game in the Cardinals’ 6-3 victory over the Orioles on Monday.

Advice: We’ll have another update on Gray’s status when we know more. The win was Gray’s sixth of the season. He cruised through the first five innings. In the sixth inning, after two men reached on errors, he allowed a three-run home run to Gunnar Henderson. Four batters later, he appeared to ask out of the game and was removed for JoJo Romero, who escaped the jam. The 34-year-old right-hander is tentatively scheduled to face the Cubs at home on Saturday.

    • Scheduled for sim game
Miller (shoulder) is expected to throw a simulated game Tuesday, Eric Stephen of SBNation.com reports.

Advice: Miller continues to make progress in his recovery after being sent to the 15-day injured list April 13 due to right shoulder inflammation. He successfully completed a bullpen session Saturday, and as expected, he's now been given the green light to toss a sim game. Miller will likely be sent out on a rehab assignment later in the week, assuming all goes well Tuesday. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 4:33 pm
