      Advice: Alvarez helped Houston get off to a quick start with his first-inning solo blast. He then knocked a double in the fifth inning and came around to score on a Jeremy Pena single. Alvarez had been mired in a bad slump coming into Thursday, going 3-for-32 over his previous nine games since hitting two homers against Colorado on April 27.       Blanco (4-0) earned the win over the Yankees on Thursday, allowing two runs on four hits and four walks while striking out five batters over 5.2 innings.

      Advice: Blanco was a bit shaky with his control, as he threw just 62 of 107 pitches for strikes and tied a season high with four free passes. However, he allowed just one extra-base hit -- an Anthony Volpe two-run homer that accounted for both runs against him. Blanco thus improved his perfect record to 4-0 on the season, and he's allowed three or fewer runs in all seven of his starts. He's also recorded five quality starts on the campaign, falling one out shy in each of his two outings during which he hasn't met that mark.       Advice: Alvarez kicked off the scoring in the opening frame by taking Yankees starter Marcus Stroman deep for his eighth round-tripper of the season. It was the first time he’s left the yard since a two-homer explosion back on April 27, snapping a nine-game homerless drought.       Advice: Blanco generated 13 swinging strikes, and finished with five strikeouts, but also battled control issues throughout this one, handing out four free passes as well. He managed to limit New York’s formidable lineup to just a two-run homer by Anthony Volpe into the middle innings, which was enough to hang on for his fourth win of the year. He’ll carry a sparkling 2.23 ERA, 1.02 WHIP and 41/20 K/BB ratio across 44 1/3 innings (seven starts) into an extremely favorable matchup on Tuesday against the Athletics.       Guardians transferred RHP Gavin Williams to the 60-day injured list.

      Advice: Nothing has changed with Williams from a return timetable standpoint as the procedural move merely clears up a spot on Cleveland’s 40-man roster for newly-acquired reliever Darren McCaughan. The 24-year-old righty has been on the shelf since spring training due to right elbow inflammation, but was able to resume a throwing program last week following a brief setback.       Advice: The move clears a spot on the team's 40-man roster for the addition of Darren McCaughan. The left-hander may have his assignment moved to a higher-level affiliate after his rehab outing Sunday, though it is possible the Giants opt to return him to their rotation after just one start.
