      Anthony Volpe went 2-for-5 with a two-run homer on Thursday in the Yankees’ loss to the Astros.

      Advice: Volpe connected for a two-run opposite-field shot into the right-field corner off Astros starter Ronel Blanco in the third inning. It was his fifth round-tripper of the season and second time he’s left the yard in his last three contests. The 23-year-old shortstop has made an effort to flatten his swing and employ an all-fields approach this season, but is still hitting for some over-the-fence pop, while also significantly improving his batting average.       Bryan Woo (elbow) will start on Friday against the Athletics.

      Advice: Woo will make his return to Seattle’s starting rotation after missing the opening six weeks of the regular season recovering from right elbow inflammation. The 24-year-old righty was sharp in his latest rehab start for Triple-A Tacoma with six strikeouts over five scoreless frames and shouldn’t have any workload restrictions in his season debut.     • Paul Goldschmidt getting night off on Thursday
      Paul Goldschmidt is not in the lineup for Thursday’s showdown against the Brewers.

      Advice: Cardinals manager Oliver Marmol is giving Goldschmidt another night off as he attempt to break out of an early-season slump at the dish. The 24-year-old righty did not give up a run through 11.1 innings during his three rehab starts at Triple-A Tacoma, and he managed to strikeout 17 batters while walking none.       Suarez (2-0) allowed two runs (one earned) on a hit and a walk while striking out one over two innings to earn the extra-innings win versus the Nationals on Wednesday.

      Advice: This was Suarez's second outing since he was removed from the rotation following the returns of John Means and Kyle Bradish. Suarez gave up both runs in the 11th inning during Wednesday's game, squandering a two-run lead, but he ended up with the win when the Orioles took the lead for good in the 12th. The right-hander has been a pleasant surprise with a 2.29 ERA, 0.97 WHIP and 17:4 K:BB over 19.2 innings this season across five appearances (three starts).
