      Paxton (7-1) earned the win over the Rockies on Monday, allowing one run on two hits and one walk while striking out eight batters over seven innings.

      Advice: Paxton gave up a second-inning solo homer but otherwise dominated Colorado hitters, holding them to just one additional hit. The veteran hurler completed seven innings for the first time this season and notched his second consecutive quality start. Paxton also tallied a season-high eight punchouts -- three more than his previous top mark in 2024 -- and walked just one batter. There was some uncertainty about Paxton's role after two recent poor starts given that Bobby Miller (shoulder) is set to return this week, but with back-to-back strong outings and with Yoshinobu Yamamoto (shoulder) set to miss several weeks of action, Paxton's place in the rotation looks to be secure.       James Paxton limited the Rockies to one run and two hits in seven innings to win at Coors Field on Monday.

      Advice: It’s difficult to predict Paxton’s performances this season. He looked done 10 days ago after giving up seven runs and getting pulled in the second versus the Pirates, but he’s since bounced back by allowing two runs and four hits in 13 innings in his last two starts. The Yoshinobu Yamamoto injury took the idea of stashing Paxton on the IL off the board for the Dodgers.       Bednar pitched a perfect ninth inning to pick up the save against the Reds in Monday's 4-1 win.

      Advice: After serving up homers in each of his last two appearances, Bednar got back on track with a clean frame Monday. Bednar had a disastrous start to the season with 14 earned runs allowed in his first 13 outings, but he's turned it around with a 1.88 ERA over his last 19.1 innings.     • David Bednar silences Reds to notch 15th save
      David Bednar tossed a perfect frame on Monday against the Reds to record his 15th save of the season.

      Advice: Bednar was summoned to protect a three-run lead in the final frame and required just 11 pitches (eight strikes) to spin a flawless frame. It was a nice rebound effort for the 29-year-old stopper after giving up solo homers in each of his previous two appearances. He’s converted 15 of his 18 save opportunities on the year. Musgrove also shared that he is working to change the landing on his delivery in order to reduce the stress on his arm, saying, "I do think that that delivery, like the release point and like how it's coming out of my hand right now, now that it's aggravated, I've got to try to make some kind of adjustment to not re-aggravate it without having months of rest time and let it calm down. I gotta find a way to adjust." There's still a possibility that the veteran hurler will need surgery to remove the bone spur, but even if he avoids that scenario, he probably won't be ready to rejoin the Padres until late July.
