      Bednar pitched a perfect ninth inning to pick up the save against the Reds in Monday's 4-1 win.

      Advice: After serving up homers in each of his last two appearances, Bednar got back on track with a clean frame Monday. Bednar had a disastrous start to the season with 14 earned runs allowed in his first 13 outings, but he's turned it around with a 1.88 ERA over his last 19.1 innings.     • David Bednar silences Reds to notch 15th save
      David Bednar tossed a perfect frame on Monday against the Reds to record his 15th save of the season.

      Advice: Bednar was summoned to protect a three-run lead in the final frame and required just 11 pitches (eight strikes) to spin a flawless frame. It was a nice rebound effort for the 29-year-old stopper after giving up solo homers in each of his previous two appearances. He’s converted 15 of his 18 save opportunities on the year.       Diaz gave up a hit and struck out two in a scoreless ninth inning Friday to record his sixth save of the season in a 2-1 win over the Padres.

      Advice: A leadoff single by Jurickson Profar and a stolen base by pinch runner Jose Azocar created another nervous ninth for the Mets, but Diaz buckled down after that and fanned Manny Machado and Jake Cronenworth to preserve the win. Diaz's velocity appears to be all the way back -- his fastest pitch Friday hit 100 mph -- and he's looked to be in just about peak form in two appearances since recovering from a shoulder impingement.       Heaney (2-8) allowed three runs on six hits and three walks while striking out four over 4.2 innings to take the loss versus the Mariners on Friday.

      Advice: Heaney gave up a two-run home run to Mitch Garver in the first inning, his fifth homer allowed over his last seven appearances. This was the shortest of Heaney's three starts in June so far. The veteran southpaw is at a 4.19 ERA, 1.32 WHIP and 62:18 K:BB through 66.2 innings across 14 appearances (13 starts) this season. It's unclear how he'll be utilized going forward -- he may lose his place in the rotation soon since Jon Gray returned from a groin injury last weekend and Max Scherzer (back/arm) could be back by the end of the month.       Andrew Heaney gave up three runs while working 4 2/3 innings against the Mariners on Friday.

      Advice: Heaney was handed a 2-0 cushion in the first, but it didn’t last long as he gave up a two-run blast to Mitch Garver. The southpaw gave up six hits and three walks, and he struck out four in a mediocre at best effort. The 33-year-old has had a few of those in 2024, and he’s now the owner of a 4.19 ERA over 66 2/3 innings. Heaney is scheduled to face the Mets next. Rotoworld Friday, 9:38 pm

    • Edwin Díaz finally gets a save
      Edwin Díaz pitched a scoreless ninth inning for the Mets to earn the save on Friday against the Padres. He struck out two and stranded a runner on third base.

      Advice: Díaz and the Mets really needed this one. You could hear a pin drop in Citi Field when Jurickson Profar led off the inning with a single, but Díaz was able to work around it for his first save in 39 days. He also hit a true 100 MPH for the first time this season as he looks to get back into a groove as the Mets’ closer. Rotoworld Friday, 8:14 pm

      Diaz (2-1) struck out one in a perfect ninth inning Thursday to pick up the win over the Marlins.

      Advice: The right-hander looked good in his first appearance since May 25, topping out at 99.6 mph with his fastball. Diaz had been on the IL with a shoulder impingement before being activated Thursday, but he hadn't been his usual dominant self even before getting shut down -- so far in 2024 he has a 16.7 percent whiff rate, one of the lowest marks of his career and a massive drop from the 25.2 percent rate he delivered in 2022.       The Mets reinstated Diaz (shoulder) from the 15-day injured list Thursday.

      Advice: Diaz has been on the injured list since late May due to a right shoulder impingement. He fired two shutout innings with High-A Brooklyn during a rehab assignment, and manager Carlos Mendoza said Wednesday that the Mets will make Diaz their closer once again after the team had used a committee approach leading up to the injury. The 30-year-old righty currently owns a 5.40 ERA and 1.25 WHIP alongside a 30:7 K:BB through 20 innings on the year and has converted five of his nine save opportunities.
