• Starting series opener Monday
Eovaldi will start Monday's game against the Tigers at Globe Life Field.

Advice: Eovaldi returned from the 15-day injured list last Tuesday and took back his spot in the Texas rotation, but he covered just three innings and tossed 37 pitches in the Rangers' 4-2 win over the Diamondbacks. Because Eovaldi didn't go on a minor-league rehab assignment prior to being activated, the Rangers deliberately limited his workload in what was his first start since May 2. Eovaldi didn't report any renewed discomfort with his right groin coming out of the outing against the Diamondbacks, so he should be in store for a more typical starter's workload Monday. • Activated and optioned
The Cubs reinstated Palencia (shoulder) from the 15-day injured list and optioned him to Triple-A Iowa on Monday, Maddie Lee of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

Advice: Palencia will stick around with Iowa after he made six rehab appearances with the affiliate while he was on the shelf with a right shoulder strain. Though Palencia struck out eight over 4.2 scoreless innings across the last four appearances, the Cubs didn't have room for the right-hander in the bullpen. Palencia should rank high on the list for a call-up the next time the Cubs require an extra relief arm. Rotowire.com 24 minutes ago
  • Cubs activate and option Daniel Palencia on Monday
Cubs activated RHP Daniel Palencia from the 15-day injured list and optioned him to Triple-A Iowa.

Advice: The 24-year-old hurler had already been at Triple-A Iowa on a minor league rehab assignment, so he’ll remain there while he continues to hone his craft. Palencia has posted a 6.55 ERA, 1.73 WHIP and a 12/8 K/BB ratio over 11 innings in seven appearances with the Cubs this season. Rotoworld 25 minutes ago
  • Heating back up
DeJong went 1-for-4 with a solo home run and two RBI on Sunday against the Brewers.

Advice: DeJong began the day with a sacrifice fly in the first inning and popped a leadoff homer three frames later. He went deep four times in a 12-game span through mid-May and has now gone yard twice in the last three games. DeJong has a 34.2 percent strikeout rate across 184 plate appearances this season, which will prevent consistent production, but he's hit .245 with a .766 OPS and six home runs since the start of May. • Luis Arraez (shoulder) hopeful to play Monday
Luis Arraez (shoulder) told reporters after Sunday’s game that he was fine and would be in the Padres’ lineup on Monday.

Advice: The 27-year-old wizard with the bat suffered a shoulder injury while sliding into second base in the fifth inning on Sunday. It looks like it’s only a minor issue though and not something that is going to keep Arraez out of action. Be sure to check the Padres’ lineup prior to Monday’s battle against the Diamondbacks, but if Arraez has his way he’ll be in there. Rotoworld 32 minutes ago

  • Nabs fifth steal
Vargas went 2-for-4 with a run scored, an RBI and a stolen base in Sunday's win over the Guardians.

Advice: Getting another start at shortstop in place of CJ Abrams (shoulder) and batting ninth, Vargas swiped his fifth bag of the season in a productive afternoon. Abrams could be back in the lineup as soon as Monday against the Mets, bumping Vargas back to the bench, but the veteran utility player has been effective when called upon this season, slashing .288/.368/.385 through 120 plate appearances. • Racks up hold No. 10
Ottavino struck out two in a perfect eighth inning Sunday to record his 10th hold of the season in a loss to the Diamondbacks.

Advice: Mets manager Carlos Mendoza deployed Reed Garrett in the seventh inning and Ottavino in the eighth to protect a 4-3 lead to great effect, but Jake Diekman then blew the save in the ninth. The pecking order for saves in the absence of Edwin Diaz (shoulder) remains murky, but all three pitchers could see chances depending on the matchups. Ottavino hasn't made much of a case to claim the full-time closer gig -- since the beginning of May, he's stumbled to an 8.49 ERA, 1.97 WHIP and 14:7 K:BB through 11.2 innings. • Perfect in sixth hold
Garrett struck out the side in a perfect seventh inning Sunday to record his sixth hold of the season in a loss to the Diamondbacks.

Advice: With the Mets holding a 4-3 lead, the right-hander was called in to the face the heart of Arizona's order and fanned Lourdes Gurriel, Christian Walker and Jake McCarthy on 11 pitches (nine strikes). Garrett has had some stumbles of late, getting tagged for earned runs in four of his last nine appearances with a 9.00 ERA and 2.00 WHIP over that stretch, but he's still part of the high-leverage mix and a candidate for saves in the absence of Edwin Diaz (shoulder). • Michael Conforto (hamstring) could return Monday
Michael Conforto (hamstring) is tentatively expected to return to the Giants’ lineup for Monday’s series opener against the Diamondbacks in Arizona.

Advice: The 31-year-old outfielder played in a pair of minor league rehab games at Triple-A Sacramento over the weekend, going 1-for-5 (.200) with a 1/1 K/BB ratio. He was set to be evaluated on Monday, and as long as everything goes well he’ll be cleared to return. Before landing on the injured list on May 12, Conforto had been hitting .280/.331/.490 with seven homers and 20 RBI in 154 plate appearances. Rotoworld 46 minutes ago
