• Jo Adell homers, knocks in two to lead Angels
Jo Adell went 2-for-4 with a homer and two RBI as the Angels edged the Pirates 5-4 on Wednesday.

Advice: Adell, who hit second in three straight games last week, entered in a 1-for-20 slump, so he was back down to eighth in the Angels lineup today. Manager Ron Washington keeps trying to go with the hot hand at the top of the order, but he can’t seem to get the timing right. Adell is batting .259/.311/.506, which is the best line sported by any currently healthy Angels player. Rotoworld 40 minutes ago

  • José Soriano can’t get through five versus Pirates
José Soriano allowed four runs in 4 2/3 innings Wednesday in a no-decision against the Pirates.

Advice: Soriano struck out six and opened up with 4 1/3 scoreless innings before a double snapped a streak of nine straight batters retired. He got one more out immediately afterwards, but he then walked two, gave up a three-run double to Oneil Cruz and an RBI single to Connor Joe, which ended his day. There’s a great deal to like about Soriano’s stuff, but considering that he never worked as a starter above A-ball coming into this season, he’s not at all a finished product. He’ll get more consistent, but since he’s likely to be on a pretty restrictive innings limit, he might not be much of a factor in fantasy leagues until next year. Rotoworld 40 minutes ago

  • Carlos Estévez perfect in earning sixth save
Carlos Estévez worked a perfect ninth against the Pirates for his sixth save Wednesday.

Advice: Estévez had given up six runs in his previous five appearances, but he had an easy time today, striking out two of the three batters he faced. This was his second straight day pitching, so he’ll probably need Thursday off. That could create a save chance for Luis García. Rotoworld 40 minutes ago
  • Martín Pérez charged with four runs versus Angels
Martín Pérez yielded four runs in five-plus innings Wednesday versus the Angels.

Advice: It was two runs through five, but Pérez allowed two singles to start the sixth and both runners came around to score off Luis Ortiz. Pérez struck out five and walked none. His 36/13 K/BB ratio in 45 innings this season is an improvement over his typical ratio, but he’s still not someone we would consider in fantasy leagues. Rotoworld 40 minutes ago

  • Jared Triolo goes 0-for-4 against Angels
Jared Triolo finished 0-for-4 in the loss to the Angels on Wednesday.

Advice: We figured Triolo would prove to be a solid bat for the Pirates, but he’s come in at just .206/.293/.250 to date. Last year, he had 12 extra-base hits in 181 at-bats as a rookie. Right now, he has three in 120 at-bats. Nick Gonzales has been terrific in Triple-A, so maybe it’s time for the Pirates to try something different at second base. Rotoworld 41 minutes ago

  • Moving into regular role
Newman will start at shortstop and bat ninth in Wednesday's game against the Reds.

Advice: Newman will make his third straight start at shortstop -- all against right-handed pitching -- and looks to have supplanted Blaze Alexander as the Diamondbacks' preferred option at the position while the team waits for Geraldo Perdomo (knee) to return from the injured list. Though he's turned in a poor .559 OPS through 62 plate appearances with Arizona this season, Newman has been a much more polished defender at shortstop than Alexander. Rotowire.com 42 minutes ago

  • Joins bullpen
The Twins recalled Staumont from Triple-A St. Paul on Wednesday, Dan Hayes of The Athletic reports.

Advice: Staumont has allowed five runs but boasts a 16:3 K:BB over 10.2 relief innings this season with St. Paul. If/when he makes an appearance with the Twins, it will be his first in the majors since he had thoracic outlet syndrome surgery last July. Rotowire.com 43 minutes ago
  • Smacks three-run homer
Jeffers went 2-for-4 with a three-run home run during Tuesday's 10-6 loss to the Mariners.

Advice: Jeffers tagged Emerson Hancock for a three-run shot in the third inning to put the Twins ahead 4-2. The long ball was his second in as many games and extended his streak of games with an extra-base hit to six. During that stretch, Jeffers is 7-for-22 (.318) with eight RBI and four runs scored. • Ryan Jeffers homers, drives in three in loss
Ryan Jeffers went 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBI in Tuesday’s loss to the Mariners.

Advice: Jeffers sent his seventh homer of the season into deep left field to plate Trevor Larnach and Edouard Julien, giving the Twins a 4-2 lead over the Mariners. Jeffers continues to be one of the hottest hitting catchers in the league and is now 6-for-19 with two homers and eight RBI this month. Rotoworld Yesterday, 8:00 pm
