    • Takes loss in extras
Diaz (1-3) took the loss in extra innings Sunday against the Dodgers, allowing an unearned run on one hit and a walk over an inning of work. He also struck out a batter.

Advice: Diaz struck out Jason Heyward in the ninth to send the game to extra innings. He was an out away from getting through the 10th, but Shohei Ohtani laced a base hit to right that scored Heyward to end the game. Diaz has now given up five total runs on four hits over his last 2.1 innings, which has also come with two losses and a blown save. He's given up nine runs in 4.2 innings in May. Despite the struggles, manager David Bell has not made any public comments about a possible closer change, suggesting Diaz's job is save for now. He now owns a 7.02 ERA, 1.68 WHIP and 17L13 K:BB in 16.2 innings. Rotowire.com 44 minutes ago

    • Strikes out 11 in win
Burnes (4-2) earned the win Sunday against the Mariners, allowing one run on seven hits and a walk over six innings. He struck out 11.

Advice: Unlike his previous four outings where the Orioles scored a total of four runs, Burnes received five runs of support through the first three innings, allowing him to cruise to the victory. The increase in strikeouts was also a good sign for Burnes, who had tallied no more than six in his previous eight starts since accumulating 11 on Opening Day. Burnes will carry a 2.56 ERA and 1.04 WHIP into his next start, when he's slated to toe the rubber in a highly favorable matchup on the road against the White Sox. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 8:35 pm
    • Corbin Burnes fans 11 in defeating Mariners
Corbin Burnes fanned 11 while allowing one run in six innings Sunday as the Orioles bested the Mariners 6-3.

Advice: Burnes matched his season-high for strikeouts; he also fanned 11 on Opening Day. Oddly, he hasn’t struck out more than six in any of his other eight starts. Still, he’s been plenty successful in amassing a 2.56 ERA to date. The win today was his first since April 20. Rotoworld Yesterday, 1:54 pm
    • Taking on 'fluid' role
Mets manager Carlos Mendoza said Sunday that Diaz's bullpen role will be more "fluid" for the near future, Paige Leckie of MLB.com reports.

Advice: The 30-year-old surrendered four runs in his third blown save of the season Saturday and admitted that his confidence is down with seven runs allowed in his past three outings, so the Mets won't rely on him to be their primary closer for a bit. Diaz is still viewed as the club's closer long term but is now likely to see some lower-leverage work in an attempt to get him back on track. Adam Ottavino and Reed Garrett are the likely candidates to step in for save chances in the meantime. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 12:32 pm
    • Taking seat Sunday
Steer is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Dodgers.

Advice: Steer is mired in an 0-for-16 slump and will head to the bench Sunday. Will Benson will shift to left field for the series finale in Los Angeles while Stuart Fairchild and Jake Fraley start in center and right, respectively. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 11:46 am

    • Spencer Steer out of lineup Sunday vs. Dodgers
Spencer Steer is not in the lineup for Sunday’s tilt against the Dodgers.

Advice: Steer has struggled mightily as of late, and the 26-year-old will get a day to think about things against Landon Knack and the Dodgers. Santiago Espinal is starting at third base with Jeimer Candelario moving across the diamond to first. Rotoworld Yesterday, 10:29 am

    • Escobar: Edwin Díaz’s role with Mets is ‘fluid’
Mets manager Carlos Escobar told reporters that Edwin Diaz’s role with the Mets is “fluid.”

Advice: Fluid, by definition, is not very concrete. Díaz has been horrific over the last week, as he’s seen his ERA jump up to 5.50 from the 2.13 mark he had entering the month by allowing runs in three consecutive appearances. The 30-year-old looked the part prior to these struggles and it’s worth noting he’s a hurler who missed all of 2023 thanks to a fluke injury. Díaz probably won’t be on the mound for the next save chance for the Mets, but New York is going to do everything in its power to try and get the right-hander back on track. • J.D. Martinez out of lineup with flu-like symptoms
J.D. Martinez is not in the starting lineup Sunday due to flu-like symptoms according to Jon Heyman of the New York Post.

Advice: Heyman also reports that Francisco Lindor and Harrison Bader are also under the weather, but they’re in the lineup. For now, Martinez should be considered day-to-day. Rotoworld Yesterday, 8:08 am

    • Battling flu-like symptoms
Martinez is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against Miami due to flu-like symptoms, Jon Heyman of the New York Post reports.

Advice: It turns out Martinez is under the weather, as an illness is reportedly sweeping through the Mets' clubhouse. It's uncertain whether he's available off the bench. Brandon Nimmo will serve as the designated hitter against righty Sixto Sanchez. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 8:03 am
