      Abreu went 1-for-3 with a solo home run in Saturday's 5-2 win against the Twins.

      Advice: Abreu took Minnesota starter Joe Ryan deep in the second inning for his first long ball of the campaign. It's been a rough season for the veteran first baseman, as he's slashing a meager .119/.167/.167 through 90 plate appearances. Abreu has been a bit better since returning to the big club May 27 following a demotion to the minors, going 3-for-13 (albeit with six strikeouts) over five games.       Valdez (4-3) earned the win over Minnesota on Saturday, allowing one run on two hits and two walks while striking out four batters over seven innings.

      Advice: Valdez needed a modest 85 pitches to get through seven frames before turning the game over to the bullpen. He notched his second straight quality start and fourth over his past five contests. Overall, Valdez has given up three or fewer earned runs in seven of his nine starts on the campaign.       Alec Bohm went 2-for-4 with a run scored, a double and two RBI against the Cardinals on Saturday.

      Advice: Bohm started the scoring with a two-run double off Sonny Gray in the first inning. He only has five home runs on the season, but he’s hitting .311 with 49 RBI in 58 games. Bohm is a mainstay in the middle of the order for the Phillies now. Rotoworld Yesterday, 7:14 pm

    • Stumbles vs. Oakland
      Sale allowed eight runs on nine hits and a walk over four innings against the A's on Saturday. He struck out four.

      Advice: It was a rough day for Sale, who allowed six runs over his first two innings before Brent Rooker added two more with a home run in the fourth. Sale hadn't allowed more than one run in six straight starts prior to Saturday while recording eight or more strikeouts in each of his last five outings. Overall, the veteran left-hander is 8-1 on the season with a 3.06 ERA, 0.95 WHIP and 82:10 K:BB across 67.2 innings.     • Framber Valdez spins seven strong in win over MIN
      Framber Valdez gave up just one hit on two runs while working seven innings to get a win Saturday against the Twins.

      Advice: Valdez did issue two walks, but he was able to keep the self-inflicted damage to a low roar while striking out four. The southpaw has gone seven innings in three of his last five starts, and he hasn’t allowed more than two runs in any of those outings.     • Sale allows eight runs in no-decision
      Chris Sale allowed eight runs in four innings and got a no-decision against the Athletics on Saturday.

      Advice: Sale allowed nine hits, walked one and struck out four. He was due for a bad start after a dominant stretch where he won his last seven consecutive starts. He had his worst outing of the year against the Athletics. It’s the only time Sale was unable to complete five innings in 11 tries this year. His ERA increased from 2.11 to 3.06.     • Joe Musgrove lands on IL with elbow inflammation
      Padres placed RHP Joe Musgrove on the 15-day injured list with right elbow inflammation.

      Advice: Musgrove lasted just two starts before an elbow issue winds up sending him back on the shelf. Kevin Acee of the San Diego Union-Tribune reported that Musgrove is dealing with a recurring triceps/elbow issue, which “is not believed at this time to be a season-ending injury.” The fact that the term season-ending is even being brought up here isn’t an encouraging sign. It certainly doesn’t sound great and fantasy managers should anticipate Musgrove returning anytime soon. There should be some clarity on his status in the coming days once he undergoes some additional imaging to determine whether he’s dealing with any structural damage. Stay tuned.       The Padres placed Musgrove on the 15-day injured list Saturday with right elbow inflammation, Kevin Acee of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.

      Advice: Musgrove was originally slated to start Saturday against the Royals, but he will now return to the injured list after experiencing further issues with his right elbow/triceps. The 31-year-old was able to return from the IL after 16 days following his first encounter with elbow problems in May, but the Padres will likely bring him back slower this time around to ensure his elbow is back to 100 percent the next time he takes the mound. Randy Vasquez was recalled from Triple-A to start in Musgrove's place Saturday and will likely remain in the Padres' rotation until Musgrove is able to return.
