  • Registers another quality start
    Berrios allowed two runs on six hits and three walks while striking out two batters over six innings in a no-decision against Baltimore on Wednesday.

    Advice: Berrios didn't do much in the strikeout department with just two punchouts, but he was nonetheless very effective in recording his fifth straight quality start. The right-hander has just one win during that span but has put up a very solid 2.73 ERA. Aside from an eight-run, 3.2 inning blowup against Philadelphia on May 7, Berrios has been a model of consistency this season, allowing three or fewer runs in each of his other 12 starts.   • José Berríos delivers quality start versus Orioles
    José Berríos allowed two runs over six innings Wednesday in a no-decision versus the Orioles.

    Advice: Berríos delivered a sixth straight quality start, though he has only one win during the span. Tonight’s outing did nothing at all for his FIP, which has lagged way behind his ERA all year, but he continued to defy his peripherals in finishing the game with two strikeouts, three walks and a homer allowed (a solo shot to Anthony Santander).   • Escapes with no-decision
    McKenzie came away with a no-decision in Tuesday's 8-5 win over the Royals, surrendering five runs on nine hits -- including three home runs -- and two walks over 5.1 innings. He struck out seven.

    Advice: He was taken deep twice by Bobby Witt and once by Hunter Renfroe as McKenzie dug a 5-0 hole through four innings, but the Guardians were able to climb out of it. The right-hander's suddenly having trouble keeping the ball in the park -- after serving up only six homers over his first nine starts of the season, McKenzie's coughed up multiple long balls in three straight outings and has a 7.04 ERA over that stretch.   • McKenzie hit hard in no-decision against Royals
    Triston McKenzie allowed five runs on nine hits in 5 1/3 innings in a no-decision against the Royals on Tuesday.

    Advice: McKenzie allowed four extra-base hits on the day but three of them were home runs, including two by Bobby Witt Jr. The lanky right-hander was able to pitch well after word came out that he was pitching through a tear in his throwing elbow; however, he’s now allowed 12 earned runs over 15 1/3 innings in his last three starts. McKenzie’s off-speed pitches posted 10 whiffs on 19 swings, but his four-seam fastball didn’t miss bats and got hit hard. Given his injury and lack of velocity, McKenzie is walking a tightrope and doesn’t need to be held in all fantasy leagues. He now has a 4.16 ERA on the season heading into a tasty matchup against the Marlins on Sunday. Rotoworld Tuesday, 6:13 pm
     
  • Hit hard in no-decision
    Verlander did not factor into the decision in Monday's 2-1 win over the Cardinals, allowing four runs on seven hits and two walks with four strikeouts over five innings.

    Advice: Verlander got into immediate trouble, allowing solo home runs to Alec Burleson and Nolan Gorman in the first inning. He labored through the next four, surrendering a total of eight hard-hit balls, including another homer by Gorman, and leaving with a 4-2 deficit. Verlander was coming off back-to-back nine-strikeout efforts, but he has now failed to reach six innings in four of his nine starts this season. In those nine games, Verlander has posted a 3.63 ERA, 1.19 WHIP and 48:17 K:BB. He tentatively lines up for a road matchup against the Angels on Sunday. Rotowire.com Monday, 8:57 pm
     
  • Verlander allows four runs in no-decision Monday
    Justin Verlander allowed four runs in five innings and got a no-decision in the Astros’ 7-4 victory over the Cardinals on Monday.



    Advice: Verlander gave up seven hits, walked two and struck out four. He allowed three home runs and has now allowed 11 home runs in 52 innings (1.90 HR/9) this season. That’s a significant uptick from the 18 home runs he allowed in 162 innings (1.00 HR/9) last year. Also troubling is Verlander’s 23 percent ground ball percentage, which would be a career-low. While his ERA is 3.63 on the season, his xFIP is over full run higher at 4.70. Verlander has benefitted from an 86 percent left on base percentage, which has helped drive his ERA down but is unlikely to last all year. The 41-year-old right-hander is set to face the Angels on the road this weekend.

  • Fans eight in no-decision
    Pfaadt (2-4) came away with a no-decision Sunday against the Mets, allowing four earned runs on five hits and two walks over six innings. He struck out eight.

    Advice: Pfaadt was solid outside of a rough third inning in which he allowed all four of his earned runs courtesy of back-to-back triples. The 25-year-old right-hander has now pitched six or more innings in seven consecutive starts and has yet to pitch less than five innings in any start this season. The second-year pro has been inconsistent, pitching to a 4.32 ERA, but his 5.1 K/BB and 1.08 WHIP highlight his ability to miss bats.   • Brandon Pfaadt allows four runs in six innings
    Brandon Pfaadt pitched six innings on Sunday against the Mets. He struck out eight and walked two batters.

    Advice: Pfaadt pitched very well in this game despite the four earned runs. The Mets were swinging over his sweeper all afternoon before a rally with back-to-back triples by Brandon Nimmo and J.D. Martinez fueled all four of their runs. Still, good but not great has been the story with Pfaadt all season. He will take a 4.32 ERA into his next start against the Padres. Rotoworld Sunday, 1:45 pm
     
  • Crushed by O's
    Bradley (1-3) took the loss Saturday, surrendering nine runs on nine hits -- including four home runs -- and three walks over 3.1 innings as the Rays were downed 9-5 by the Orioles. He struck out three.

    Advice: Baltimore put runs on the board in every inning the right-hander pitched, with Ryan Mountcastle taking him deep twice to lead the charge for the home squad. Bradley had served up only three homers in 23 innings this season since coming off the IL, but keeping the ball in the park was an issue for him in 2023 as well, and he's now been tagged for 30 homers in 131 career big-league innings. Bradley will look to rebound in his next start, which lines up to be a rematch with the O's back in Tampa Bay next weekend. Rotowire.com Sunday, 4:30 am
