    • Throwing long toss
Maeda was seen throwing long toss Friday, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports.

Advice: Maeda was removed from his start Wednesday after just two pitches with right abdominal discomfort. McCosky also reports that Maeda reported mild soreness in hs abdomen during the session but the pain wasn't enough to prevent him from progressing toward his next start, which is scheduled for Wednesday. • Reaches four times, homers
Betts went 2-for-4 with two walks, a three-run home run and an additional run scored during Thursday's 11-7 win over the Pirates.

Advice: Betts' three-run blast capped off a six-run fifth inning for the Dodgers and plated Miguel Vargas and Austin Barnes. Prior to Thursday's outburst, Betts had gone 1-for-24 (.042) across six games. Despite the minor cold spell, he owns the ninth-best OPS in MLB at .923 with 10 homers and nine stolen bases. • Falls apart Thursday
Harvey (2-2) took the loss Thursday against Atlanta, coughing up three runs on four hits in an inning of relief.

Advice: Taking the mound with the score tied 2-2, Harvey got two quick outs before the wheels came off, with the rally highlighted by Marcell Ozuna's two-run homer on a slider that caught too much of the plate. Harvey had been scored upon only once in his prior 10 appearances, and the long ball was just the second he's served up this season in 31.1 innings. The right-hander has been generally outstanding as the Nationals' top setup man, posting a 2.87 ERA, 0.99 WHIP and 34:6 K:BB, and his 18 holds already has him one away from his career high. • Goes yard in Thursday's win
Garver went 2-for-2 with a home run, two walks, two RBI and two runs scored in a win over the Athletics on Thursday.

Advice: Garver was a one-man wrecking crew for Seattle, delivering an RBI single in the fourth inning before putting an exclamation point on the M's shutout victory with a ninth-inning solo blast. While Thursday's performance marked the veteran catcher's second two-hit effort and second multi-RBI performance in the last four games, Garver's first two months-plus in Seattle have been highly disappointing -- he's sitting on a .175 batting average and .612 OPS through his first 200 plate appearances, and his 30.5 percent strikeout rate is his highest since he whiffed at a 45.7 percent clip during the COVID-shortened 2020 season. • Return could be delayed
Alvarez (thumb) has flown back to his native Venezuela to tend to a family matter, Mike Puma of the New York Post reports.

Advice: Alvarez had been set for activation June 11 upon the Mets' return home from London, but he might now be back a day or two later. The young catcher has been sidelined since April 20 with a fractured left thumb and has played five rehab games, going 3-for-14 with one home run. Rotowire.com Today, 6:14 am

Francisco Alvarez’ (thumb) return from the injury list is likely to be delayed for a non-injury reason, according to MLB.com’s Anthony DiComo.

Advice: Alvarez’ could’ve returned to action as early as next Tuesday, but now he’ll be delayed by a day or two. He had to fly home to Venezuela due to a family matter. Rotoworld Today, 6:09 am

    • Impressive in win
Houck (6-5) allowed two runs on three hits and struck out nine over seven innings to earn the win Thursday over the White Sox. He did not issue a walk.

Advice: Houck carried a no-hitter through five innings, though the White Sox managed to tag him for one run in each of the sixth and seventh frames. The right-hander remains dialed in, having allowed just four runs over 27 innings across his last four starts. Houck is at a 1.91 ERA, 0.92 WHIP and 84:15 K:BB over 85 innings through 13 starts this season. His next start is projected to be a challenging one at home versus the Phillies. • Torres drives in two in win Thursday
Gleyber Torres went 1-for-4 with a two-run double against the Twins on Thursday.

Advice: Torres gave the Yankees a 4-2 lead with a two-run double with the bases loaded in the third inning. He’s up to 21 RBI on the season now, but he has five RBI in his last three games. Maybe this is the start of Torres turning it around at the plate as he’s hitting .232 in his last season before heading to free agency. Rotoworld Yesterday, 8:21 pm

    • Tanner Houck whiffs nine in win over White Sox
Tanner Houck recorded nine strikeouts and yielded two runs over seven innings on Thursday in a win over the White Sox.

Advice: Houck delivered a dominant performance at Guaranteed Rate Field, carrying a no-hitter into the sixth inning before finally surrendering a leadoff single to Lenyn Sosa and a run-scoring double to Zach DeLoach later in the frame to break up the potential shutout. He got 14 runs of support on 24 hits from Boston’s lineup to allow him to cruise to an easy victory. The 27-year-old righty has emerged as a reliable fantasy contributor this season, allowing three runs or fewer in 12 of his 13 starts so far. He’ll bring a stellar 1.91 ERA, 0.92 WHIP and 84/15 K/BB ratio across 85 innings (13 starts) into a home outing on Wednesday against the Phillies. Rotoworld Yesterday, 7:52 pm
