    • Ends slump Sunday
Garver went 2-for-4 with a three-run double in Sunday's 5-1 win over the Angels.

Advice: Garver entered Sunday 0-for-20 over his last seven games. His last extra-base hit was May 21, and he hadn't knocked in a run since May 17. He was able to put an end to all of those slumps, delivering a big knock in the eighth inning to give the Mariners some breathing room. The 33-year-old has struggled to get anything going at the plate this year, slashing .170/.276/.309 with five home runs, 17 RBI, 18 runs scored and eight doubles over 192 plate appearances as Seattle's primary designated hitter. • Mitch Garver plates three as Mariners top Angels
Mitch Garver went 2-for-4 with a double and three RBI on Sunday afternoon, helping to lead the Mariners to victory over the visiting Angels.

Advice: Garver gave the Mariners quite a bit of breathing room with his bases-clearing three-run double off of Luis Garcia in the eighth inning — increasing the M’s advantage to 5-0. With his two-hit attack, the 33-year-old backstop is now hitting .170/.276/.309 with five homers and 17 RBI on the year. Rotoworld Yesterday, 4:43 pm
    • Francisco Alvarez homers Thursday in rehab game
Francisco Alvarez (thumb) crushed a three-run homer on Thursday in a minor league rehab contest for Double-A Binghamton.

Advice: Alvarez kicked off his minor league rehab assignment by catching five innings behind the plate and slugging a monstrous three-run homer in his second plate appearance. The 22-year-old backstop, who is recovering from last month’s thumb surgery, will likely need a couple more tune-up games before returning to New York. Rotoworld Thursday, 6:29 pm

    • Cleared for rehab assignment
Mets manager Carlos Mendoza said Tuesday that Alvarez (thumb) will begin a rehab assignment with Double-A Binghamton on Thursday, Jorge Castillo of ESPN.com reports.

Advice: Mendoza offered that Alvarez will catch 5-to-7 innings in his first game with Binghamton and build up from there. Alvarez is five weeks removed from undergoing surgery to repair a torn UCL in his left thumb. He was given an eight-week timetable to return following the operation, but the young catcher would appear to have a good shot to beat that timeline. Rotowire.com Tuesday, 10:40 am

    • Francisco Alvarez (thumb) starting rehab Thursday
Francisco Alvarez (thumb) will begin a rehab assignment with Double-A Binghamton on Thursday.

Advice: That according to Mets manager Carlos Mendoza, who also told reporters the catcher is expected to be behind the plate for five to seven innings. Alvarez was able to take batting practice over the weekend, and the 22-year-old backstop was reportedly hitting the ball hard as he works his way back from the thumb injury that has kept him out since April. Assuming no setbacks occur in the rehab assignment, Alvarez could be back for the Mets in the middle of June, possibly sooner. Rotoworld Tuesday, 10:36 am

    • Looking good in batting practice
Alvarez (thumb) was reaching exit velocities over 100 miles per hour during batting practice over the weekend, Will Sammon of The Athletic reports.

Advice: The 22-year-old catcher is still wearing a splint on his surgically repaired thumb, however, and the Mets aren't going to rush him back from the 10-day injured list. The team may also use his recovery period to have him work on his positioning behind the plate, as Alvarez has a tendency to be overeager reaching for pitches and is susceptible to getting his glove hand smacked by a swing. Alvarez was batting .236 (13-for-55) with one home run and eight RBI through 16 games when he was injured in mid-April. Rotowire.com Tuesday, 7:43 am

    • Taking seat Saturday
Garver is not in the starting lineup for Saturday's game against the Nationals, Shannon Drayer of Seattle Sports 710 AM reports.

Advice: Garver will begin Saturday's game in the dugout after going 0-for-4 with two strikeouts in the series opener Friday. The lefty-hitting Dominic Canzone will serve as the designated hitter and bat fifth against Nationals right-hander Trevor Williams, while Dylan Moore draws the start in left field. • Francisco Alvarez (thumb) takes BP on Saturday
Francisco Alvarez (thumb) took batting practice on Saturday at Citi Field.

Advice: Alvarez progressed to on-field batting practice for the first time since last month’s thumb surgery. The 22-year-old backstop will presumably head out on a minor league rehab assignment at some point in the coming weeks, barring any unexpected setbacks. The hope is that he’ll be ready to return at some point in mid-to-late June. Rotoworld May 25, 9:15 am

    • Set for batting practice Saturday
Alvarez (thumb) is set to participate in batting practice Saturday, Abbey Mastracco of the New York Daily News reports.

Advice: Alvarez landed on the 10-day IL after tearing the UCL in his left thumb April 19, and the 22-year-old catcher is on track for a return by late June. Alvarez was slashing .236/.288/.364 with one home run and eight RBI over 59 plate appearances prior to his injury. Rotowire.com May 24, 2:22 pm
