• Miguel Amaya hits second homer in loss to Pirates
Miguel Amaya hit just his second homer of the year in the eighth inning Friday to break up the Pirates’ shutout bid in a Cubs loss.

Advice: Amaya’s homer projected at 374 feet and would have gone out of 10 ballparks, according to Statcast. In spite of Amaya’s struggles offensively — he’s batting .184/.248/.297 — the Cubs have continued to give him most of the starts behind the plate. Yan Gomes has gotten the nod in just one of the team’s last six games. Rotoworld 30 minutes ago

  • Ceddanne Rafaela gets a breather on Friday night
Ceddanne Rafaela is not in the Red Sox’ starting lineup for Friday night’s showdown against the Cardinals in St. Louis.

Advice: It looks to be just a routine day of rest for the versatile 23-year-old. David Hamilton will start in his place at shortstop and will bat ninth against veteran right-hander Kyle Gibson on Friday evening. Rotoworld 31 minutes ago

  • Another rehab outing on tap
Francis (forearm) is scheduled to make a rehab start with Triple-A Buffalo on Saturday, Keegan Matheson of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Francis opened the rehab assignment Tuesday and covered two scoreless innings. The 28-year-old righty-hander will likely fill a long-relief role upon his return, so he could be deemed ready for activation following Sunday's outing. Rotowire.com 35 minutes ago

  • Requires additional rehab start
Urquidy (forearm) will make another rehab start after his upcoming outing at Double-A Corpus Christi on Saturday, Chandler Rome of The Athletic reports.

Advice: Manager Joe Espada said Urquidy is slated for four innings (60-65 pitches) in Saturday's contest, so the Astros will keep him in the minors for an additional rehab appearance in hopes of stretching him out further. The 29-year-old righty struggled in his first rehab outing, giving up three earned runs across 2.2 innings with Triple-A Sugar Land. Assuming his third start in the minors will be his last, Urquidy is in line to pitch again for the Astros in Seattle on May 29. Rotowire.com 40 minutes ago

  • White Sox option Braden Shewmake to Triple-A
White Sox optioned INF Braden Shewmake to Triple-A Charlotte.

Advice: With Corey Julks joining the active roster on Friday, the White Sox needed to clear a spot for him and it looks like Shewmake was the odd-man out this time around. The speedy 26-year-old infielder hit just .125/.134/.203 with a homer, four RBI and five stolen bases in 67 plate appearances at the big league level. Rotoworld 41 minutes ago

  • Athletics option Hogan Harris to Triple-A
Athletics optioned LHP Hogan Harris to Triple-A Las Vegas.

Advice: With Brandon Bielak joining the big league roster on Friday, someone needed to get the boot, and it looks like Harris drew the short straw this time around. The 27-year-old southpaw posted a 4.15 ERA, 1.27 WHIP and an 8/3 K/BB ratio over 8 2/3 innings with the A’s. He’ll continue to refine his craft at the Triple-A level for the time being. • Recalled by Houston
The Astros recalled Mushinski from Triple-A Sugar Land on Friday.

Advice: Since being optioned to Triple-A on April 12, Mushinski has appeared in 12 games for Sugar Land, registering a 4.15 ERA, 1.00 WHIP and 14:5 K:BB over 13 frames. The southpaw has not yielded a run over his last six minor-league outings, and he'll provide Houston left-handed depth out of the bullpen. The Astros optioned right-hander Shawn Dubin to Triple-A Sugar Land in a corresponding move. Rotowire.com 44 minutes ago
  • Nationals option Trey Lipscomb back to Triple-A
Nationals optioned INF Trey Lipscomb to Triple-A Rochester.

Advice: The 23-year-old became an unfortunate roster casualty on Friday with Joey Gallo (shoulder) returning from the injured list. In 122 plate appearances with the Nats, Lipscomb hit .252/.331/.290 with a homer, nine RBI, 10 stolen bases and a 20/11 K/BB ratio. It shouldn’t take him long to earn another chance at the big league level. Rotoworld 47 minutes ago

  • Slated for promotion
The Dodgers will recall Vargas from Triple-A Oklahoma City, Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic reports.

Advice: The Dodgers are also set to activate Jason Heyward (back) from the injured list. There's no word yet on what the corresponding moves will be, but a demotion for James Outman is one scenario. Vargas has been used exclusively in left field with Triple-A Oklahoma City this season, slashing .295/.437/.583 with eight home runs and eight stolen bases. He could see ample playing time in left field for the Dodgers. Rotowire.com Today, 1:39 pm
