• Receives first big-league call-up
The Red Sox selected Westbrook's contract from Triple-A Worcester on Sunday.

Advice: The 28-year-old is in the big leagues for the first time in an 11-year professional career that included stops in the Diamondbacks, Giants, Brewers, Tigers and Yankees organizations before he caught on with the Red Sox on a minor-league deal over the winter. Over his 195 plate appearances with Worcester, Westbrook slashed .267/.364/.436 with five home runs and two stolen bases and made starts at five different positions (first base, second base, third base, right field and designated hitter). With Vaughn Grissom (hamstring) and Romy Gonzalez (hamstring) going on the injured list Sunday, second base likely represents Westbrook's clearest path to playing time in Boston, though Enmanuel Valdez will likely get the first opportunity to make regular starts at the keystone, at least against right-handed pitching. • Moves to IL
The Red Sox placed Grissom (hamstring) on the 10-day injured list Sunday.

Advice: Though the right hamstring strain that forced Grissom out of Saturday's 6-3 win over the Tigers is considered mild, he'll still need at least a week and a half to make a full recovery from the injury before rejoining Boston's 26-man active roster. The Red Sox selected the contract of Jamie Westbrook from Triple-A Worcester to bolster the team's depth in the middle infield in the short term, but Enmanuel Valdez and David Hamilton may be more likely options to pick up starts at second base while Grissom is on the mend. • Huge day against Detroit
Valdez went 3-for-4 with a double, two home runs, three runs scored and three RBI in Saturday's 6-3 win over the Tigers.

Advice: Getting the start at DH and batting fifth, Valdez tormented Matt Olson and took him deep in the second and sixth innings, adding a two-bagger in between for good measure. It was the 25-year-old infielder's first start since being called back up from Triple-A Worcester on Wednesday, but with Vaughn Grissom (hamstring) headed back to the IL after leaving Saturday's game early, the path is clear for Valdez to see regular action at second base for at least the next couple weeks, perhaps on the strong side of a platoon with Romy Gonzalez. Valdez is batting just .179 (17-for-95) in the majors this year, but he's having a breakout season in the power department, slugging four homers in 31 games for Boston and adding six in 20 games for Worcester. • Vaughn Grissom (hamstring) likely heading to IL
Red Sox manager Alex Cora acknowledged after Saturday’s victory over the Tigers that Vaughn Grissom (hamstring) is likely heading to the injured list.

Advice: Just how long he’ll remain there is still up in the air though. The 23-year-old infielder suffered a right hamstring strain during the second inning of Saturday’s contest — the severity of which is not yet known. Expect Enmanuel Valdez to see increased action in the Red Sox’ infield while Grissom is shelved. Rotoworld Saturday, 5:51 pm

  • Rehab assignment imminent
Winn (forearm) will start a rehab assignment Tuesday at Triple-A Sacramento, Shayna Rubin of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Advice: Giants manager Bob Melvin hinted earlier this week that Winn could've been activated from the IL and rejoined the big-league rotation as soon as Monday or Tuesday. However, we now know Winn will need a rehab stint before being reinstated. Considering Winn threw 45 pitches in a bullpen May 27, it's likely he'll need only one or two minor-league appearances before getting the green light. Rotowire.com Saturday, 4:10 pm

  • Likely to hit IL
Grissom has a mild right hamstring strain and is expected to be placed on the injured list, Gabrielle Starr of the Boston Herald reported Saturday.

Advice: Grissom was removed from Saturday's game against the Tigers in the third inning after slowing up and grabbing his right hamstring running to first on a groundout. While it's not the same hamstring that sidelined him at the start of the year, Saturday's injury will likely require an IL stint. While Grissom is sidelined, expect Romy Gonzalez, David Hamilton and Ceddanne Rafaela to see plenty of work in the middle infield. Rotowire.com Saturday, 3:52 pm

  • Enmanuel Valdez slugs two homers in victory
Enmanuel Valdez went 3-for-4 with two homers, a double, three runs scored, and three RBI to lead the Red Sox to a 6-3 win over the Tigers on Saturday.

Advice: Valdez had an outstanding day at the plate on Saturday. He led off the second inning with a solo homer off Reese Olson to put the Red Sox on the board. A double to lead off the fourth put him in position to score once again on a sacrifice fly. Valdez got to Olson once again in the sixth with a two-run blast for his first career multi-homer game. The 25-year-old second baseman was recently recalled from Triple-A for some depth after Tyler O’Neill landed on the injured list, but isn’t likely to get regular playing time to make him relevant in most leagues. He’s slashing .179/.206/.358 with four homers and 14 RBI across 103 plate appearances. Rotoworld Saturday, 3:41 pm
  • Vaughn Grissom diagnosed with hamstring strain
Vaughn Grissom was pulled from Saturday’s contest against the Tigers in the third inning due to a right hamstring strain.

Advice: Grissom missed plenty of action at the start of the 2024 season due to a left hamstring strain, so same issue but different leg. The severity of the strain — as well as how much time he may stand to miss — are not yet known. Connor Wong replaced him at second base on Saturday but obviously wouldn’t be a long-term option there if Grissom is forced to miss extended time. Rotoworld Saturday, 2:43 pm

  • Exits early Saturday
Grissom was removed from Saturday's contest with the Tigers in the top of the third inning due to a right hamstring strain, Rob Bradford of WEEI.com reports.

Advice: Grissom grounded out in the bottom of the second inning and was replaced by Connor Wong at second base. He missed the first month of the season with a left hamstring strain. The Red Sox will close out its series against Detroit on Sunday before getting a day off Monday. Expect more information regarding Grissom's injury after Saturday's game.
